  1. Sounds like yours is the MkIV same as mine. The updated throttle system was included in the spec archive on the Lexus GB site.
  2. I think the rims are great but like all rims of this type how good they look depends on how the callipers/discs look behind the rim. A lot different to seeing the rims against a black background. With a wheel as open as this you're going to see everything that's behind the rim.
  3. Mine's an August 98 and officially the mark IV came out in January 98 but I've seen very few registered before mid 98. Do you know if your is the MkIII or MkIV. I did not think the mechanicals had been changed much (but see below) as most changes were trim/cosmetics etc but Lexus might be able to tell you. I like you can not believe a fairly basic problem like that would exist an what is an expensive car. Friends of mine who've had older versions than mine have never mentioned your problem. Looking at the basic tech specs from Lexus between the MkIII & MkIV the engine looks very similar - compression ratio is up 10.5 from 10.4 and BHP/Torque increased though the later model is much quicker despite being heavier. This is probably due to the improve suspension and the 5 speed instead of 4 speed autobox. They did update the electronic throttle control system (no idea what this does) and brought in variable valve timing. Probably doesn't help much.
  4. I have a 98 LS too and have not experienced the problem you are talking about. Is yours an early or late model 98 as it changed during the year? I would have thought such a problem was unacceptable the take off in mine is beautifully smooth. There is a big difference between a gentle take off and a quick take off with little in between and certainly if you start of gently and then wish to accelerate there is a bit of a lag but I've always put that down to the gearbox as it shifts down. As for surging - nothing. The LS is probably the best car I've ever had for cruising. I would think there's something amiss with the engine management system. Even if you bought it privately if it's got a full Lexus service history you may be able to buy the lexus extended warranty - as new car warranty.
  5. Personally I think it depends what you want. No the SC is no boxster or SL merc. It does not handle as well or hold the road as well but if you are driving a car that looks as good as an SC are you going to be pushing the limits anyway - legally you'd struggle in the UK anyway. The SC is not a sports car so if that's what you want you'll be disappointed. The SC is not a luxury saloon so if that's what you want you'll be disappointed. It is a beautiful long distance tourer which you can take the roof off and carry 2 people if comfort and if that's what you want you'll love it. You can even stick kids in the back too - so long as they leave their legs behind!
  6. Good to hear that you're still here. I was hoping to come to Washington for a conference this weekend but two of my partners are going instead. At least I can now go to Gaydon. Was supposed to go to Charlestone next week but I'm too busy and have got to send one of my staff instead. (It's an IT conference so no volunteers).
  7. I thought Rain-x had gone by the board. I first saw it in about 1978 when they were marketing a water repellant for windscreens. On a mate citreon cx the aerodynamics were such he hardly ever had to use his wipers!

  9. My LS400 has only done 40K and is sagging too. I am taking it up with Lexus. Initial answer is well upholstery is not covered by warranty but my view is under sale of goods act it must be fit for the purpose it is intended. A car at this price should have a sagging seat at 100K let alone 40K. If any one else has taken this up keep us posted . I will let you know how I get on. My dealer now has new foam for the seat and the car is booked in next month when I get back from holiday. I thought it a bit risky having it done before I go as the dealer says they have never done anything like this before and don't quite know how long it will take nor I suspect how to do it. I hold my breath. Repair was done yesterday - just a matter of replacing the foam. On the basis I had a service and this done and the car was finished by mid afternoon it can not have been a big job. Cost I do not know. Only problem is the haeted seat. Mine had the element bonded on to the foam. The replacement foam had no element. Dealer thought maybe it was now separate but no joy so now maybe bonded to the leather. They are now finding out what the answer is. Having said that the seat is now back to normal and comfortable again. Two months on and still no heated seat. It's starting to get cold now so time it was sorted. Dealer tells me it's with the technical team as they are working on a fix. Same story for my failing memory (for the seats) but apparently the technical team for UK is only 2 people!!!!
  10. And the interior is worse. Abit like Alfa in the bad old days - great mechanicals but everything else was crud. Brother in law has got one and the more I look at it (which isn't a lot) the more I feel sorry for him. It may be quick but it just looks like a attack from the after market parts bin.
  11. These are the best rims I've seen especially for an LS
  12. Have you driven a DHP LS. The ride is definitely harsher than the standard - If you go for bigger wheels you will be sacrificing some of what the LS is about - comfort, silence etc - i.e. a luxury saloon. I do think than bigger wheels can suit it though.
  13. Who's up to see if they can beat the speed camera. Problem is no one would believe you cause there's no photo to prove it
  14. My sentiments too. But I have to have someone to make the coffee too
  15. The on board phone was and old analogue - similar to the old transmobile if any one remembers them so nowadays not a lot of use.
  16. Not a problem my daughter was equally upset and switched it off.
  17. Is it just me but I consider belching and burping something which we do not do in polite company? I have a young child who I hope I am bringing up to be polite and well behaved. I therefore do not find it helpful that the BBC (CBBC) on the Saturday show run burping competitions. I have emailed them to express my disgust but if you feel the same as me please will you do the same 'cbbc.online@bbc.co.uk' Disgusted parent
  18. Guess I am stuck with the Rangey then! Full leather and all the toys! Get an ES then - just got rid of the wife's Disco V8 ES must get some rear suspesnion bushes though Get the stiff version - cna't remember what there called offf had - about £200 for a full set - but they make a hell of a difference - if you haven't got air suspension uprate the dampers brilliant for off road. .... cheap and cheerful off road fun. Are we talking about a landrover product here? Yes cheap to buy but B***dy expensive to run cause you're always having to fix something cause its broken, fallen off. On second thoughts don't get an ES cause the electrics are rubbish. Give me a good old 90 any day - nut and bolt engineering that I can fix. ;)
  19. Are you running with some form of additive? Can't be sure from the photo but looks like some form of deposit build up which must be something you're burning. Problem with modern engines all the old rules on the look of spark plugs etc are often off. It's like the good old dyas of looking for a nice salt and pepper exhaust pipe to check your mixture.
  20. This is great. But why do I sometimes get an error message and kick out and have to log in again. but this is quick
  21. Kid's TV was in it's infancy when I was young! but I do remember watch with mother and Bill & Ben -first time around. Give me the test card any day!
  22. Loz It depends what you use your Range Rover for. If it's school runs then the RX is ideal If it's for any thing like they should be used for forget it. I'm a Landrover nut and had an RX for the day and loved it but when I gave it back I said to the salesman what was the point in it. It's just like a car but with all the problems of a high centre of gravity but none of the rural practicalities of the Landrovers. The salesman agreed that it was 'just' a car for those who want the 4X4 look etc. So if you never go off tarmac and just need a towing vehicle great but if you want a real off road stick where you are.
  23. I don't think the points means prizes is a good idea but the rating system has got to be good
  24. I was counting how far to the next star (500) now only 374. but yes you're only just behind and closing fast
