  1. I have a problem with the memory seats etc on my 1998 LS. It has been referred to technical but that was some months ago and no answer yet. The problem manifests itself in two obvious ways. A) the nearside mirror moves up slightly from it's starting position everytime after reversing. B) the memory settings will lose the memory setting for the seats - though tends to remember the mirrors and steering wheel. Though sometimes it forgets the wheel as well. Once forgotten you have to reset. It was initially an intemittent problem but is steadily getting worse. Also and possibly connected the SAT NAV has on a few occasions come up with a multicoloured screen. Switch off and on again and everything is fine. Also a couple of times the touch screen has refused to work for anything at all but again switch off and turn back on and everything is right again. Lexus Oxford are sure it's something to do with the memory / sat nav modules but do not know which bit to start with. They have tried resetting etc which works for a shortwhile - like usually until I've left the forecourt! They are being very good about it and are as frustrated as I am but they are waiting on technical for an answer which probably means they have not got one. Any one had anything similar.
  2. The LS is very particualr about tyres and tyre pressures. I think the tyres recommended for your year are the Dunlop D8's and the tyre pressures are pretty high (check your manual). If the pressures are even slightly low the weight of the LS will very quickly take the edges off. Also you say you drive mostly in London. The LS has a lock to challenge a London Taxi but if used with a vengence and with too much power that too will some wear the edges of the tyres out.
  3. Garmin is good but don't go for the cheaper models. I had tried the various PDA solutions but find them all a bit clumsy. The speach on the garmin is the clincher over the PDA.
  4. sounds good to me. I don't envy you the job though.
  5. Wooden rim wheel was part of an upgraded trim pack available from Lexus
  6. Actually guys - I gotta disagree here (sorry Steve) - I don't think that we should do this (and I'm sure we're not). While it'd be nice to have a fully indexed and catalogued set of threads, in doing so we would dramatically reduce (a) the number of threads on the site and (B) the individuality of those threads. I could easily merge a dozen threads about SatNav into one - but whose would I keep and whose would I delete?? I think that the volume and disparity of threads here is what keeps the club interesting and relevant to its members. If we merged all the ones that were the same, people would not feel that they own the content and this forum would simply be a database of facts. People want to feel that they "own"their thread, and that's the reason we get duplicates - and that's why we have a "search" function!! If you just want a series of facts - go buy a workshop manual!! I can actually go with either view maybe we could index thread titles in some way though I like the ageing basis as well. Maybe something like the old amazon feedback like -' other people who have looked at this have looked at **** to'.
  7. Since BMW took over Rover and started building the Mini at Cowley you can not but fall over all the BMW's in this area. Initial comment to anyone driving a BMW must be 'you work at Cowley?'. Must be something to do with all the staff discounts.
  8. Water's good for me. On alcohol give me a good wine or traditional bitter. Champagne great too.
  9. Having just driven down to the South of Spain and back via France I concur. I saw one IS in Spain and nothing in France except when nearly back at Calais when the wife pointed out a huge Lexus dealer. The LS got a lot of looks. On a run like that I had hoped for great fuel economy but the aircon really saps it out in those temperatures - or was it the speed on the autoroutes?
  10. Having not met you (yet?) or been to a meet myself (yet no ?) and following the humour(?) of these threads is there some other meaning like:- It's nice to see your back as opposed to you're and why were the meets so great without you? I'm sure you're all really nice at heart!
  11. I'm interested in your views - what would you consider to be an acceptable way of identifying you as a member (if anything) - it'd be good to get some ideas about what you would be happy to display on your car, if not a sticker?? Perhaps something much smaller and more discrete on another window, or on the number plate maybe?
  12. There were times. I did once own a ford Zodiac complete with Side stripe and raer spoiler . It was a long time ago! Tastes have changed a little.
  13. Probably this would be too much admin work but would it be possible to merge many of the topics that are started on essentially the same topic. Take for instance all the threads running/closed on Sat Nav. Most people don't go back pages looking for topic headings so we keep starting new threads.
  14. I've got to go to Washington about then but it will probably be the next week. If I'm around I'll give it a go - never been to one of yours before.
  15. I thought I was the only one who was confused by this - particuarly when I was trying to change whilst going through the channel tunnel. The manual did not help much either but fortunately I just tried it every way I could think of - one of which was with the ognition on.
  16. I reckon the answer is no. I asked the same question on my 98 LS when I bought it and everyone I asked said no way. I eventually opted for a simple extra speaker set up with a licence holder aerial. It works well but it's irritating that it is not through the audio set up. No one wants to get near that because of the sat nav. I am told Lexus have been looking at the phone fitments in the Jaguar X type to see how they can do it in the Lexus. I think they are getting a lot of grief from buyers when all other quality manufacturers are offering integrated phone set ups. Shame that the BMW always sounds as if you are under water! I spent the extra to have the co-ordinated leather mounting etc and the final job is pretty neat. Yeah bluetooth's OK but I hate things stuck in my ear. PS. Does anyone know of a mounting kit for the Blackberry now it's available with voice etc. I'm fed up of swopping my sim card from the blackberry to a nokia phone when i'm travelling in the car. I promise not to send emails whilst driving!
  17. About time capital launched an LOC credit card
  18. I am a gold member but I don't have stickers on either. I hate anything stuck on the windows - just about tolerate the tax disc. Would use the LOC tax disc holder but mine's the phone aerial! So just cause there's no sticker doesn't mean they're not members.
  19. My other half thinks it's and old man's car too - I have to agree but it is an LS. She loves all the gadgets and comfort etc but refuses to park it - she says it's too big . This is someone who for the last 9 years has driven Landrover Discoverys and has just changed to a Saab Cabrio (try reversing one of those with the hood up). However, she does not think I spend enough time on the car - I'm afraid I drive the thing not cherish it. Cost does not matter to her on the basis if it's anything to do with cars it's my bill! In fact most things are my bill. The other significant half (or third), my duaghter, thinks the cars great but thats cause she like the dvd player and the heated rear seats etc!
  20. Joined gold a while ago. Just got my money back with interest having just had a 9,000 mile service with 15% discount. Nothing done other than the service items and still came away ahead. Can not agree more - you must be nuts not to join.
  21. Lexus should have the CD for France I borrowed today - if it has not gne already try ringing them again.
  22. Just come back form Spain having borrowed CD's for France and Spain. Yes they are not that up to date with some motorways missing - Spain is worse than France. However what I did was for the main runs I ran off the recommended routes from the michelin.com web site and by using the two together it was great. The real beauty of sat nav is that even if you go wrong you're never lost. Well done lexus for a great customer service.
  23. My LS400 has only done 40K and is sagging too. I am taking it up with Lexus. Initial answer is well upholstery is not covered by warranty but my view is under sale of goods act it must be fit for the purpose it is intended. A car at this price should have a sagging seat at 100K let alone 40K. If any one else has taken this up keep us posted . I will let you know how I get on. My dealer now has new foam for the seat and the car is booked in next month when I get back from holiday. I thought it a bit risky having it done before I go as the dealer says they have never done anything like this before and don't quite know how long it will take nor I suspect how to do it. I hold my breath. Repair was done yesterday - just a matter of replacing the foam. On the basis I had a service and this done and the car was finished by mid afternoon it can not have been a big job. Cost I do not know. Only problem is the haeted seat. Mine had the element bonded on to the foam. The replacement foam had no element. Dealer thought maybe it was now separate but no joy so now maybe bonded to the leather. They are now finding out what the answer is. Having said that the seat is now back to normal and comfortable again.
  24. My sentiments exactly. Landrovers just shows you have even more taste (1949 - S1, 1972 -S11 diesel, 1978 - S111 pickup with V8 coil springed, 31x15 mud tyres and full cage & wading gear (just for fun!))
  25. Looking for some where to install a dvd media player I was delving in the recesses of the boot. In the well on the near side there is the mounting for the sat nav etc. on the off side the well is empty except for mounting bolts for ? and what looks like an aerial cable. Does any one have any idea what this is for and what might be mounted on the bolts. Is i a carry over from the older models phone install? Ps mines a 1998 LS. :?::?::?:
