  1. You have a ....phone......in your car? Can you tell I'm the last person alive without a Mobile? See the sky.......
  2. Well, we can't have it both ways. We all know the quality of the car. 'Worth'? Of course it's 'worth' in what you get. It's only the UK and its -now set in stone? - serious depreciation culture. In europe, cars hold their value more. I've been saying for ages that LSs are serious bargains. Even at £8K. (Despite immaculate being mis-spelled in the ad! Here's me in my pedant alter ego?)
  3. My old one was......looked great. Glad this one sold; I was tempted-even though I've sworn off cars generally! Nothing else compares.
  4. "5+ owners"??? Otherwise......must resist! Seems to be up near Border country? But why was it serviced by Osaka, who are in S-Wales? Ah....I see. It WAS in Newport once (MOT history) Now may be on Arran! Funnily, I once collected my then speakers (Avantgarde Duos -look it up) from Arran in my LS Ser 4, fitting the (not small!!) speakers in the car -just! I've just asked the guy if it's him selling this car!
  5. No, not used, hence my '?', though I had read good comments about ACF-50. I guess, maybe....?. that it might (Vactan) chemically bond with rust, i.e. not ALWAYS be toxic!
  6. To take the title literally.....perhaps a lot of 'decent' cars are held onto? This club an example? Plus, I'd guess that there aren't THAT many Ser 3 + 4 LSs available? They weren't popular at the time of issue (relative to Merc/Beemers/Audis) so choice a bit limited. Plus; the newest LS Ser 4 is now 17 years old. The chance of finding a low mile one must be negligible. .....Though if you find a shopping-only car it may only have done 17X 5000 miles. Good luck on that one! Strange that Mrs Mark found the visibility reduced in an LS, but then a Mini and a Swift are mentioned, that are even lower? The modern trend for ever-more wraparound bodies and slooing slit-like windows won't appeal. (Try a 17 year old Micra for glass!)
  7. Surface rust might be relevant to a near 20 year old car, no matter HOW well made? But you can get good anti-rust sprays to deal with it. (Vactan-?- ) I wish I'd kept my Citroen CX Turbo-Auto I sold for this reason!
  8. Don't forget the laws of slander apply (while the person isn't dead!). But the noticing of suspicious activity (name switching etc.) can be pointed out.
  9. I once spent winter in Ottawa; temp of -20 to -25C! AND rented a big Ford once........wheeeeeee.
  10. As mentioned, idiots who drive as if snow is immaterial are the danger. How often (In hilly Bristol) do you see cars helplessly sliding down a hill in winter?
  11. What rubbish! Why do you fall for this cliche? Like any other generalisation, flawed to extreme. I had 4 DSs, NONE of whom had problems- except with the pillock who crashed into one and wrote it off (it was STILL drivable even bent up!) The DS suspension had a false poor rep, I suspect because it was so different. A well engineered system that worked extremely well. Like all cars, if it wasn't maintained it would fail- but no more than yer Ford (no....much LESS!) I'd guess any DS now will either be needing serious rebuilding or be expensive. (There's one I saw, totally rebuilt, going for £75K!) They are old beasts now of course. I drove a borrowed one for a friends wedding about 12 years ago (when I had my Ser 3 LS) and thought (the DS) was a bit of a truck. But then, much is, in comparison with a Lex.
  12. Battery goes down if you plip the security on. I never did-used key to close car. Alarm systen drains it faster. Or......as Denis says, disconnect-(or get a trickle solar charger? If in daylight of course!) I used to SORN my Lex over winter. Let the bus take the slush?
  13. It's a never ending world of wonder! Though USB are two way normally, for hi-fi inputs too?
  14. Yes. Memories of my Citroen DS; the best riding car ever. . Fantastic suspension that included 205/70/15 tyres as essential factor in it all. No 'elastic' band tyres here! (N.b. The handbook gave two choices of tyre quality. If you chose the lesser "Do not cruise at speeds exceeding 100mph' "Cruise'!!) ds garden.bmp
  15. I must have been lucky then. Used my Tyre inflator a few times via the front AND back sockets.
  16. Yeah, that was me at the front of that queue; got up at 5 to get there........(-:
  17. Well, I saw TWO SC430s on my way back from Stow-on-the-Wold (to Bristol) on Sunday! Inc a nice White one. thinks; must resist temptation........
  18. They did! Every three months they take the paint guys back to teach them/re-train! The paintwork is very special. Should I tell you about the guy who tests the buttons? Has three sets of fingernails....... It's Kaizen in practice. They really DID pull out all the stops on these.
  19. Well, I costed bushes, ball joints, susension arms-possible age related things at close to £2000! Same 'value' as the car nearly, at the time. these are big heavy cars and costs aren't cheap just because the skewed market depreciates things so much.
  20. ...on 'Pistonheads' site. I often think "Don't TELL them!!" We want to keep our secret? (-: https://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-features-sheds/shed-of-the-week-lexus-ls400/36990
  21. Even though I've given up driving-maybe because?- I DO like that. They are such seductive cars. Restrained in looks, but such quality. Effortless ride and power. You feel safe and relaxed in the LS. Thanks for reminding me. Now you just need to live in Andalucia, where roads aren't clogged!
