  1. Yes, the salt would taint the varnish! Have you noticed that Aldi/Lidl butter prices have gone up 10% and the UNsalted is now 10p more than salted!? Somewhere on here there's a 'How to get the wood off' tutorial, because I follwed it on my Ser 4. Wasn't too hard.
  2. So the lesson we learn (thanks J Geils Band....obscure reference!) is to utilise the CHOICE of alternate seat/steeringwheel settings, and let your wife/partner drive occasionally? (The quote is from 'No anchovies please')
  3. Inevitable, especially if used for short journeys? Quite a lot of torque going through it, and the cars are 10+ years old. Wear and tear item.
  4. VVTi is on post 98 cars, i.e. Ser 4. Power increased slightly....lots of subtle changes over the Ser 3, including -vital for my choice to switch up.....TRACTION CONTROL! (Missed off on Ser 3s!) Have you checked the car on the DVLA MOT checker site? Much time left? Nowt you can do about Starters, I'd think. Ask for info on suspension repairs. I'm guessing it's 100K+ miles and it IS now 18 years old. If a longtime, single owner, that's a good base to work from. Dealer? If private, find reason for sale. The magic bullet reason would be....old guy, slight use, giving up driving. (But that's enough about me) Should look like this......
  5. That's not a speaker....THESE!!! are proper car speakers! (Apologies C-Dundee) OK, not a Lexus (Dyane!) but...... Was delivering them to Bristol 2CVs' garage, where they sat in the roof space, playing from a car radio (!) for next 30 years. It closed last Christmas-I left the speakers there......
  6. Paper IS best for speakers.....in hi-fi. But maybe not in a car interior; damp etc! Feastrex speakers are made with mulberry paper, hand created by a Japanese Paper Master, for example. Cost a fortune-but sound sublime. My Ocellia units cost about 1000 euros each, made with paper- carefully! Bliss. But neither are in a car! Never had a problem with the Lex system in my Ser 3 or 4. In Setright's review of the Ser 3 he rated the hi-fi highly.
  7. Surely the actual 6-pack bit is....pioneer? Levinson won't make the transport-they are pretty generic.
  8. The Avantime lives on! I've got a LOVELY Citroen XM 3 litre you can have........ (last ever sold in UK, etc.....)
  9. Wow! Unless you were testing the Micra speed on the Autobahn? (Ours is a 2000 in Technoflare paint!)
  10. It's brexit? All avatars are European property. We only get to call ourselves numbers or letters now. And Ggogle, being in Luxembourg, won't work, etc...... How are you with wood fires and a flint? MY Avatar? It's of the view from Nicholas Luard's house in Andalucia, towards Morocco. So immune!
  11. Yes. Neighbour bought a 3 year old one for circa £16K! Cheaper to buy a £1K car once a year? Or an LS, of course. pedant's (or pedants') corner. Aaron; no ' in spots (not spot's)...though 'spots're' would have done!
  12. As an owner of an original Micra (1998) I agree. All small cars have grown. If only makers had followed the Citroen AX/BX concept of making cars light-imagine the mpg! Or Smart Forfour-plastic body. My neighbour just bought a Merc E300 diesel hybrid. 2.1 litre car, does 7.5 secs to 60, is the size of an LS 400, but does 68mpg! But is heavy and not THAT big internally. It's all the padding-airbags, anti-crash stuff. When I saw a Dyane zipping down the road this morning.......thin tin doors......
  13. You do the climbing; we'll just look at the pictures! Just open the window here to get a bit of atmospheric wind...... P.S. Eskimoes don't wear PINK hats!
  14. Mike(MLW), re oil changes. I just noticed Lidl are about to sell an oil pump -£12.50, if I recall - that you can use via the dipstick pipe. Saves going under the car!
  15. Add me to the Avantime fan list.....but then, I'm a lifetime Citroen addict as well, so used to advanced/off-the-wall stuff! If I wasn't giving up on big cars, I might be tempted.....(XM is going soon) As to AA/RAC checks. I sold a CX Turbo to a guy who sent the AA; they even jacked the car up (high!!) and crawled about underneath for ages! VERY thorough.
  16. Ex-Avantime owner! Just what was THAT like? we need a distraction here! Always loved the concept-just not the bad reviews.
  17. So,Pete? Start the climb about 1 a.m. then? we's not getting any younger! Take several torches and check the phone(s!!) are charged and tell someone local you're climbing....... It's going to be chilly!
  18. Spellcheck. Passed, not past. You never want your LS to be 'past'!
  19. That's not limping! Though it might BECOME limp/unuseable? Man up?.....man down!
  20. "But, darling, it was SUCH a rare/one-off bargain....." etc.? (And, why does a frying pan round the head make you limp? GO limp, maybe!)
