  1. Citroen C6, anyone? (I might have been tempted; (my recent XM 3 litre cost the same as one!) but reports I got suggested flaws and problems. Citroen, in my readings, seem to rush things out, then fix the problems later! In the C6 case...no 'later' happened.
  2. Phil-I just had fish for tea! Albeit, not spooned to me! You pick up my point exactly. Take the Nissan Micra-or a Corolla. Keep changing shape but not name. Even on this site we still get folk asking the differences between 'series'/models. Imagine looking at a yaris. The limo look works, as it was designed to do. With CAD design, it seems designers get carried away. I leave with THIS design pic.... ds garden.bmp
  3. As in....2017 model? A bit like Citroen current 'DS' cars are nothing LIKE original DSs, should Lexus lose the LS prefix? At least they look less like Mercs now! I like older cars with more glass, not doors up to neck level; and making the interiors SOOOO comfy that the driver is insulated? It's still a 70mph tonnage of missile in amongst lots of others. Pay attention to driving it, not tweeting/etc.!
  4. Short of a big Citroen, there's not much better to cruise in. My neighbour said he loved 'not hearing' it come past! - it was so quiet.
  5. I've poste this before but newer folk might wonder. The column in blue -thanks, Setright - has the differences.
  6. ....and, if like me, you're resisting 'smug-phones', you can print out a map with locations on it, the old fashioned way! (-: There's always a way. In fact, you could have great fun interrupting people with phones on the street and asking! A whole new area of life emerges! Who knows WHO you might meet. (Bet no one knows though.)
  7. A common experience in hi-fi. Speaker cone outer edges are suspended with-usually - rubber foam, which decays over time (and all that vibration?). The support is really just to hold the cone centrally and stop it vibrating erratically. As others say here, you can re-do the surrounds. Some speakers use 'doped' fabric surrounds (my various old Leak speakers with this (see pic) are over 40 years old - the magnets drop, but that's another topic!) or even leather. I'd expect car speakers to use something that resists humidity and such, as a car is a bit less mellow than a living room! But, as Stuart says, sticking ML on a speaker doesn't stop it being cheaply made! Neil E will be on, telling us about his SC430/Soarer sound systems?
  8. Malcolm; somewhere I (may still have) a 'Car' review where they compared an LS (Ser 2, I think) with a Bentley/Rolls, and preferred the LS. The only thing you don't get is the old style hand crafted wood etc.. When you recall that Toyota were intent on making the 'best ever' car, that's not surprsing. Rest easy, ignore the itch. It's so easy to forget that what you have is enough! It's the way of the world to not be satisfied with life-we're actively encouraged to want more/the new. I'm often envious when(for instance) I see someone happily 'in their skin' in a Renault 4 they've had for 30 years, etc.. See Messi, above, for another example. Find 'Desire' by Boz Scaggs for relevant song lyrics-I play it to remind me occasionally! I recall someone coming onto this site, telling us that no one talked much about problems on the LS section - because there weren't any, it seemed, unlike the Merc section he'd been on prior-we just talked about holidays and trips......! (-:
  9. Reputedly, (this being Japan?) the LS boot was intended to hold TWO golf bags! (Or, in my case, the bass boxes for Avantgarde Duo speakers!) http://www.enjoythemusic.com/superioraudio/equipment/0705/avantgardeduo.htm
  10. I thought it was ...miles, not months! From the above post, looks as if a 2005 GS might do? I prefer the more upright entry; I borrowed a 2005(?) IS once-kept catching my head on the door frame! Modern sloping cars! Not to mention the tendency for windows to be like pillbox slits! (Slight exageration...)
  11. 12m? Surely.....? 12K? And....what else WOULD you buy? after selling my Ser 4 car, I couldn't see anything that was nowt but a step back in quality. (El Grand van was good though...) Even my BMW owning , car obssessed neighbour thinks Lexus better. Keep the ad info going! People like to look.
  12. I interpret the exhaust comment as smeone taking out a silencer to get a bit of V8 burble; and fitting adjustable springs in similar mode. Gold badges only on back (at least didn't gold plate the wheels) Looks and reads very well. Cheap flight to Glasgow and nice ride home? Even a w/end there? I did Bristol to Aran to collect Avantgarde Duo speakers once-IN my LS. The speakers JUST fitted in, in sections! Nice weekend trip.
  13. https://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-spottedykywt/toyota-century-spotted/37405 Just spotted (that Pistonheads had spotted) this.... Nice rear leg room? And, if LS's 8 cylinders ain't enough....try 12?
  14. I AM a few years down the line (age-wise) so thinking more of comfort, ease of access..... This looks (like many vehicles now?) like a blinged-up Quashqai.
  15. What's up with the wood capping on 3 doors? Or is it a trick of the light? Looks like water damage.
  16. 'Think' in USA-you find NSA/homeland security calling! Land of the free? With 26 (?) separate 'Security' organisations?
  17. Well, ask Tony Bones' opinion? (Wheels in motion. He may know someone in your area who'll do it.)
  18. ...and the 'Familiale' version had extra row of fold-up seats (like old taxis). Mine just had a huge space there. I built a platform, boot to (back of) front seats that was 6 feet long, so we could sleep in inclement weather, plus store camping stuff underneath. I can recall waking in the middle of Spanish-'nowhere', by a lake, to nuzzling, curious goats being herded past at dawn; plus, driving through villages, folk would stand up and clap! Mine was cream. I'd post a pic, but none on computer (no scanner)
  19. Yes, it's strange, wondering where words originate. Wiki has it as a padded footstoll or backless couch. I guess it comes from furniture coming from Turkey, etc., being 'ottoman' in general. I just read a good book on the history of 'The silk road' where the premise is that , that area of the world has always been important...even now (Syria? Afghanistan...the other 'stans are now oil-rich, etc..
  20. Takes me back to 1984. I'd just bought a renovated Citroen Traction Avant Commerciale (Hatchback! The hatch weighed about 60kg!). Immediately lent it to local Citroen dealer to celebrate '50 years of Front Wheel drive'. Then went off around Northern Iberia for 10 weeks in it! Big enough to sleep inside on occasion! Broke a driveshaft in Segovia, (I think the car sensed we were en route to Pyrenees!) so got a rental to get there, whilst local garage sourced driveshaft and fixed it (!!!) Only other trauma was petrol tank leak (Underneath it!) in Picos de Europa, temporarily fixed with chewing gum until local place fixed it -for £5!
