  1. Or just leave the winters on. No harm in that. Unless your wife regularly laps the Nurburgring. I left Nokian WR3 SUVs on my 2014 XC90 year round. I know I keep banging on about this but don't get hung up on the tyre thing. Put some decent all seasons or winters on and forget them. Anything else is marketing and forum pish. #grumpy
  2. Totally agree with the above. Stick with recommended oils and genuine parts if you can, there are a number of Toyota and Lexus dealers on eBay eg http://stores.ebay.co.uk/hillstoyotalexusstore/ And as far as I'm aware 140k is barely run in I'm pretty sure that if Toyota/Lexus wanted you to use different grades above a certain mileage they'd put it in the handbook rather than relying on forums to get the message out!
  3. I had another chat with the fitter yesterday and he had a look at the rear speakers. Mine are just regular 6x9s (?) with no factory sub so as long as the factory amp is bypassed I'm good to go.
  4. The temptation is strong but solves nothing though does it? I'm very much a karma sort of person. Not in a waving your chakras and chanting at crystals way but more based on cold statistics. If he continues to drive like a ******, especially as exposed as that, he's a lot more likely to come a serious cropper than Linus. I'm not going to wish him ill, he'll eventually manage to do that all by himself.
  5. Another update. Went out with a tech from Lexus and he heard the creaks and groans clearly. Greased the auto levelling link and had a good look around. It's still there. I think the noise may be a "feature" My BMWs used to have them. I've a feeling they have an idea what could be causing the noise but it's not bad enough to bring the warranty in to play. Hey ho...
  6. Hell of a conspiracy there Linus. I've no idea what you mean with your scapegoating comment but it appears you've just met one of society's many dickheads. A sub-culture that seems to be on the increase. And they can be motorcyclists, cyclists, motorists, pedestrians or people wearing hats. Makes no odds. Individuals who clearly just don't give a toss about anyone else. My commiserations, it's a shame about the dashcam footage. The only thing we can do in situations like this is to take a deep breath and make more of an effort to treat people how we would like to be treated.
  7. Not quiet is it? Sometimes I forget to blip the remote if I unlock the boot with key. Certainly gets the blood pumping.
  8. I can't offer a solution Nige but spooky you should post this because it's happened to me a couple of times recently. New battery too. A Google of "is300 remote unlock problem" throws up some interesting solutions and proves it's not just us!
  9. If there isn't no doubt GROM do one. I fitted a GROM AUX doo daa to the headunit in my 2002 IS a couple of weeks ago and it sounds great. Much better than streaming Bluetooth to my ears. On mine it connects to the unused CD autochanger socket on the back. I'd imagine it's a similar set up on yours? http://gromaudio.co.uk/partfinder/product/list/?make=Lexus&model=RX&year=2007-2009
  10. And he's on the wrong side of the road! The maniac!
  11. I just won't play that game any more. Shysters, the lot of them
  12. Try this https://lexus.7zap.com/en/eu/ Courtesy of one of the members here. I find it very useful. Rattles can be a pain and can really ruin the whole ownership experience. Good luck!
  13. Thanks again Dean and food for thought I think. Losing that bit of bass from the back doesn't sound good. I really didn't want to go as far as new 6x9s too. And from what I can gather replacing the rear speakers is a bit of a cow.
  14. Cheers Dean. A big help. If I do replace the Lexus unit I'm looking at an Alpine replacement which I assume will be of decent quality. By lacking bass I assume you mean sounding as it does now? The bass is adequate for me. But I don't like the sound of adding the bypass and losing what bass I have from the rear
  15. If we're naming firms you might as well have a punt with my broker. IFM Insurance in Sheffield and ask to speak to Jessica Robinson.
  16. So if I understand correctly, the Lexus head unit (in my case the 13906 CD/cassette/tuner) uses a separate amplifier but an aftermarket head unit has one built in of equivalent or better quality? The reason I ask is because I do like how the stock set up sounds and I don't want to take a step back and have to start messing around with new speakers. (Tbh, I did pick up some new Alpines for the front but after fitting the GROM AUX kit and getting decent sound from Spotify I didn't see the need and put them on eBay.)
  17. Reviving this one. I might be looking at putting a double din aftermarket unit in mine. I take it by the above that the factory amp has to be bypassed regardless? ie all IS200/300 have this factory amp and it's surplus to requirements when fitting another headunit? Sorry, the fitter confused me a little.
  18. Do you deal with any brokers or insurance companies through work? Or have dealings with any reputable brokers in a personal capacity? I've had it with the likes of Admiral/Direct Line etc and their daft promotions and bewildering discounts. I may pay a touch more than if I spent my free time trawling the internet or on the phone but I know I'm getting something that fits, they're on the other end of the phone if I need them and don't have that silly dance at renewal.
  19. Got to love driving in snow. Just after Christmas 2015 we had it heavy in Sheffield for a few days and I went out more than once trying to get the XC90 stuck I even managed a couple of rescues and since then I've always carried a tow rope too. That's when I found out that black cabs are rear wheel drive and really shouldn't be on the Snake Pass in a snow storm...
  20. Oooo! No idea what they are but I want to see them fitted! I'm useless with spanners so my mods are mod-lite and very much cosmetic. Currently looking at making some suitably retro ICE changes...
  21. Agreed. I ran Nokian WR3 SUV winters on my XC90 year round, great tyres and seriously good in snow if you do get it. I've now got the Verde All Seasons on because they were available locally for a good price. I've probably gone on about this before but the whole summers/winters/all season thing is one of my pet peeves and all about marketing and cosmetics. Not marketing in a sense that "summers" are fine and changing tyres is a waste of time because we never did it in the olden days but that "summers" are quite useless and now you have to change tyres if there's a chance of the slippy stuff. The reason my dad didn't have to change his tyres for the time of year was because on regular cars all tyres were all season tyres.
