  1. Have had my grace period. I've got XPs all over the shop on VMs. Will report back when have code
  2. It's happened 3 times now. Run my 400 to fumes – orange light and then CEL. After a few runs and a full belly of fuel CEL turns off. Similarly, rough driving, hard-cornering and fuel slosh....CEL. I still haven't sorted my XP license, ergo, access to my TS so cannot code. Anyone else's 400 (2005) pull a CEL and give a code?
  3. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/lexus-europe/rx400h/mhu38/5163/engine I have bought parts relatively cheaply with reasonable delivery costs And they have excellent detail along with VIN number drilldown https://www.japan-parts.eu/lexus/gr/2005/rx400h/mhu38r-awxgkw/4_524210_002_309W/electrical/8401_switch-relay-computer#89491
  4. I bought a 100K 400 2018 for £4K. The best mpg I got like all motors was on the long distance motorways. I was creeping up to 35 Mpg. The 400 has imo a solid HV battery. You can test the cell performance with various apps. initially I thought the car would be electrically delicate. It’s pretty robust as it turns out. My HV has been swilled in water. You should know the 400 does have some leak issues. But a dry out in my case cleared all the low resistance warnings The other thing to watch for is timing belt and wp. Should be changed at 100-110K. its a great vehicle. Comfortable as anything. And it was quick. I used to have an e39 540i that was a 6.2 second to 60 job. The 400, well maintained, is a 7.5 seconder. It’s quick. Can get a bit rusty underside. Mine was from a coastal town and it showed. Brush and hammerite job.
  5. Just check the rubber oil hoses have been upgraded to steel. That model style 330/350/400 is starting to show it’s age inside and out. I have the RX400H. Lovely ride. 7.5 seconds to 60. Goes like the clappers. maybe think about the RX450H. The hybrid is a lot more robust and reliable than one might imagine.
  6. Mike, youre in luck I think this just happens to be in debate now – always the way – we get a flurry of same-type problems like London buses. Or better, lighting strikes on the gold course?
  7. http://www.japan-parts.eu/lexus/gr/2005/rx400h/mhu38r-awxgkw/4_524210_002_309W/electrical/8418_electronic-height-control#89407A The height control unit fits to the rear axle.
  8. AFS rear height sensor. £50 easy job. RX400H good ground clearance. Bought item from eBay and got busy spannering under car. Then I hammerited the thing. I hammerite everything not heard of point 2
  9. There is a sense of pride. I felt like a blooming hero refitting a radiator, sorting a new AFS adjuster, O2 sensors and so on. One thing I cannot find out is if the belt and WP has been done. I’ll need to know now I’m on 114K miles. One thing I know I am hooked on Lexus. I had a ride in a 2016 RX450H. Not only is the interior finish immaculate and finessed, the ride was fabulous. I think my struts might be a touch tired.
  10. Indeed! Know what you mean. I have never spent more than £4K on a car. And while I am proud of that fact, most of them have been time consuming DIY refurbs and preservation jobs. My next door neighbour buys warranty near new cars and has trouble free time. I wonder if I am choosing false economies. I am looking at a 2000 Iveco LWB camper van – beautifully fitted out. Tranny is apparently notchy when cold.
  11. I am going to run my 2005 RX400H into its grave. So I’ll be having only one until the postcode lottery comes in. The new RX450H is the dream of course. I used to have a e39 540i. Lovely motor. Rust got at it. Had to go. And the RX400H is only a second slower to 60mph.
  12. Not sure this offers much other than good exploded diags. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/lexus-europe/rx400h/mhu38/5163/chassis/4302?frame_no=JTJHW31U700024975
  13. So it is mechanical/sensor. I think you’ve started a thread on CV joint / reluctor ring.
  14. Washer reservoir. Fill to brim and don’t use. Watch level.
  15. At 180° open you might manually return it 90°. I suspect you’ve done this. I think Techstream can also help diagnose and correct this.
  16. The rear view tv on my 2005 Rx400h Is pretty rubbish. Like you’ve got a cataract. Possibly the 2008 model a bit sharper Parking a big motor like the 400 PDCs are a must. I am going to put on some wireless ones. Especially as the 400 has quite a pronounced nose. The front is harder to negotiate. So your PDCs are a real bonus.
  17. Lower one opens a small sluice gate to drain leaked water from under the HV battery. Top switch manually turns off the VSC, HV and brake warnings when they come on. 😉
  18. Aftermarket? Correctly sized brick (various sizes depending on desired speed) placed under the accelerator and then another one depressing it.
  19. I can confirm that my £75 Super Valu boots cannot be recommended. I was a bit broke and an mot required replacement. When I win the postcode lottery I’ll be getting decent all weathers. This has been a useful thread.
  20. I couldn’t find any for less than £150. Can’t recall now but looked at near fits among the Toyota guards. So I cleaned and smother hammerited Mine.
  21. Very bloomin nice. Lovely interior finish. Cor. Well I’m keeping up the rear guard action with my old 2005 RX.
  22. Maybe mash in some jb weld and give a couple white paint sprays
