  1. Yes, see the disadvantage if you live in the country, the smell attracts all the sheep so your car is surrounded. lol Also, can't follow how box sections can be thoroughly cleaned, driiled, injected and sealed again in 15 mins!!
  2. Just found this on detailers thread re dynax S - 50. If not reading through this long thread with some pics just read page 1 and 5 which reports product after time and pretty good satisfaction. https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=53133 https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?s=dfe870ac8cf31367cf0c7903a02fbaa1&t=53133&page=5
  3. This is a job I intend to do in late spring 2022. Last year I prised off the scuff plates on my 20 year old BMW and made a few extra holes in the sills beneath. I then used a modified long bolt to knock out a few dents to the extent that these could be finished prior to finally levelling with filler. However, I did first weld up some of these extra holes, although this was probably not essential. I did also spray a product through the fixing holes after welding called dynax S-50 extreme duty anti - corrosion wax. I did it in the summer so even using the extension tube it was not necessary to put the container in hot water. Tests I saw previously showed this to provide better long term protection than other tested products so I went with this product. The BMW scuff plates were then pushed back with the clips. I will probably go with product for the Lexus but will do some research first as products do improve over time. Also, what is best for assessible areas is not always best for box sections. I should have some unused Waxole somewhere tucked away but believe better products exist so will not be using it.
  4. I also had a UX as a loaner for the day while my 3rd Gen RX450h was being serviced. Must say the UX handling felt a lot sharper and it was much more economical. However, it was very cramped, particularly for rear seated passengers, darkly oppressive with minuscule boot and was glad to return it. I also had an NX loaner on another occasion which was a much better compromise and a car I could live with. If I was you I would try the NX against the UX.
  5. Think further change is inevitable and it's not just sales of new cars but also used ones where franchised dealers are already facing competition from the likes of We buy any car and others. Also, a very large part of a franchised dealers income/profit comes from servicing. I read that some of the new all electric cars only require service every two years, then apart from brake fluid change it will probably mean a lot of just checking various things, so there will be less servicing overall. Electronic maintenance could most probably be done by electrical specialists. But there are still a lot of ICE cars and they are still being built so franchised dealers will be here for some time.
  6. Must say I find it unsatisfactory to rely on drivers doing 10K per year. There are many reasons why it could be used far less, such as second car for occasional use by partner, used to get truck driver to his vehicle where he then drives abroad for long journeys before returning and for many other reasons. I've heard of sales people extoling the fact that car will do mega miles pa but never that you should do 10K min pa, notwithstanding the fact that it's not good to leave it for months on end without some use.
  7. Let's assume an MOT fails the MOT due to absence of central cat. Wouldn't this then go on the cars record which means if car then tested elsewhere it would be an alert the the subsequent MOT tester to cause it to fail and any body else after that. Maybe best to find out in advance a garage that will not fail it!
  8. Sorry to learn you are one of the growing number affected by Covid. I hope you only have it mildly and do not suffer long term effects. You have also been unlucky with the electrical problems apparently caused by water ingress in your RX. I can well understand if you want to forget the experience, however, it may be of interest to others to learn whether the car will be broken for spares or a purchaser with good auto electrician will sort the problem and sell the car on on. If the later is the case, It might also interest you to learn what the repaired car would cost, although it might be too late for you to purchase it with guarantee, even if you would consider this.
  9. Yes not a design fault in as much as it works as designed but is poor design because there are accounts from all over the world where people have left cars at airports for example and returned in 2-3 weeks time to find they have a flat battery. More cars were affected due to non use during pandemic. I even got an email from Lexus warning about battery needing to be topped up. Judged by industry standard this compares poorly with other marques. Also agree about need to recharge 12v battery from traction battery if you want radio on for more than 20 mins. The 12v battery is just too small!
  10. Don't think this helps. Hamilton was gracious in his congratulations to Max after the race when he must have been seething inside at the way it happened whilst accepting Max was not to blame. Surely what matters is how well you drive, not how popular you are and in any event Hamilton has many supporters even if some do not approve of some of his over extrovert excesses.
  11. not seen this mentioned as a general option but when I became a 'Gold Member', (open to all paying the subscription), which affords some advantages including certain discounts), I was provided with a couple of Lexus Club decals, so I assume this comes with Gold Membership.
  12. As with forming a list of independents, it would also be worth recording individuals who do an excellent paint repair job. Very few owners will want to pay £1,000+ for a Lexus standard repaint for a few chips on a bonnet that could suffer similar damage again at any time. Provided a good job is done, I am sure the owner will live with it. I think when you buy a car that is a few years old, you are likely to find on close examination that it has had a small number of stone chips made good, some better than others. I know Lexus paint restorer did some chip repair work when preparing my car for sale to me.
  13. Enjoy your new ride. You have exchanged a car with more oomph for one that is more reliable and better built, arguably more important in driving conditions today. I prefer the size and shape of the NX to the 3rd and 4th generation RX having had a loaner for a day to compare,
  14. None on my20 year old E39 BMW also. The leather on Mercedes and BMW is firmer as are the seats too. The leather and underlying material in my RX450h is much softer as is the supporting material and that has creased. I also have a soft leather suite where the armchair has had a lot more use by me and has rucked whereas the leather on the two seaters used less but mainly by my much lighter wife show only small creasing after 10 years. So I believe the type of material and support beneath and use plays a big part and have to admit the soft leather is more comfortable if less durable. Lexus seats will stretch and crease much earlier than the German marques by comparison. OP is unlucky that this has happened earlier in his case than may be usual.
  15. We have had several members who have this model and underside rust problem, particularly with the subframes, some causing MOT failure. It has proved very difficult and expensive to repair these so some have gone the used from breakers route. Hopefully, your car is good and if this is the case it's certainly worth treating if you intend to keep it for some time. It should be good for many more miles if well maintained. (Especially important that the cam belt is changed as recommended for example). There are firms that prepare and treat with preservative and one member did suggest as place not so very long ago. You might be able to find this using the search facility but this is does not work very well.
  16. Warmly reciprocated and to all. Let's hope next year is less restricted and the pandemic wanes.
  17. I have very recently learnt from another member that Yuasa has now introduced a new AGM battery ref HJ-S5523L* with the same dimensions as the Panasonic fitted to the later series before the 4h gen RX 450h. This Yuasa battery is rated 57Ah against the 51Ah of the Panasonic original and should be a plug and play replacement. However, it is expensive at around £250 delivered and the one seller I could find stating a warranty, gave this as only one year. So if needed at short notice away from a closed Lexus dealer, it could be an alternative. However, this battery, which Yuasa label as 'Auxiliary', is double the price of the one I fitted but has slightly lower Ah rating and is significantly lighter, so likely contains less lead. The 60Ah Halfords (Yuasa) I fitted also has a 5 year rather than a 1 year warranty and is made by many others using the much more common 027 casing. So if you want to keep to an AGM battery as originally fitted, you now have the options of an original Panasonic, the Yuasa as above, or the 027 with light adaptions. Alternatively, if you are happy to replace with a flooded lead acid battery as some members have done, these can be bought at less cost and are more readily available in a suitable size. *If opting for this ensure you get the one with suffix 'L' as this battery has also been released with the same reference but with the suffix 'R', denoting that the + and - terminals are transposed.
  18. OK, after searching through 149 pages in different ways I found it Herbie. (Does anybody else have trouble using the search facility?)
  19. Hi Herbs, Looks like I didn't bookmark it as I should have done so will do a search and give a link when hopefully found.
  20. Good to learn your battery still serving well. Interesting that Yuasa are now making the same battery size and type S55D23L as the Panasonic Lexus fit. (Can't claim credit for it but in discussing with Yuasa some months ago I suggested there could be a market for such a battery as we were obliged to go to Panasonic for a like for like battery). I see the price is high but perhaps at least in part is because it is or will not be a big seller. Nevertheless, it does mean that if you want a comparable battery at short notice you don't have to rely only on Lexus being open and having one now. I have also noticed other things. The Yuasa Auxiliary Battery has increased Ah from the Panasonics 51 Ah to 57 Ah which is good. One large seller lists only a one year warranty, others don't say that I could see. Interestingly, it is twice the price of Halfords 027 AGM 60Ah (Yuasa) Battery which is heavier and has a 5 year warranty. I fitted this Halfords battery to my car a few months ago with a small modification to raise and secure it and it is working fine. (I did detail with pics in another thread.) Being a common size battery, it is available in other makes and more widely held.
  21. Was it established what the problem was and how it was/will be fixed?
  22. Sometimes if you disconnect the 12v battery you have to reset certain functions and removing the battery just to charge it each time is a bit of a chore. So if you can get external power to it, another way is to connect a 5amp smart charger to the battery direct. Alternatively, you can charge up the battery from the traction battery as suggested by Lexus. If you have let your battery go nearly flat, each time this happens it will shorten its life.
  23. Don't agree with your assessment of this incident and I am sure that if you did a poll most people would likely disagree too. You need a video showing approach of both cars to the bend and the point after Lewis had had left the track. A static picture does nor adequately convey cause and effect. It was not surprising that in order to risk a coming together, (something more vital to Lewis than Max) Lewis has to turn right more sharply or hope by braking very heavily he would avoid Max and also give track position to Max. The sensible thing therefore was to do what Lewis did. You link to an article about that majors on the driving of Lewis Many years ago but this is not relevant to the disputed current race although it does show Lewis was robust in some earlier races. But this was the disputed race and should be judged according to what happened then, not what had happened in any previous races. Max should not be given more tolerance because he is less experienced, has not previously been champion, is young and good looking and Red Bull deserved something missing out on the constructors prize or for any other spurious reason. However, as so many people have said, the result was over influenced by the Race Director changing his mind and then making a decision that with fewer cars allowed by the Safety Car, thereby enabling Max to make up ground more easily on his newer rubber and pass Lewis.
  24. That's the way I saw it too, Ham squeezed off the track on the first bend. Also bad call by stewards or race director on passing safety car farce. I don't see result being changed, after all goals are not disallowed after game ended (though red cards may be) even when examined later like for instance the notorious 'hand of God' incident that killed off England. Not saying Max cheated but officials by their actions handed race to him. Next season rules must be carefully framed and followed.
  25. Reference has been made to this on Mercedes 4 wheel drive cars in the UK and Australia. There are pages of comments, and videos. showing this happen. Mercedes have offered alternative tyres which has helped alleviate the problem but not completely cure it. The problem with these particular cars is much less of a problem in the USA and has been put down to having a different front drive there due to LHD and RHD. This particular cause should not apply to Lexus.
