  1. Ref Hook During my 2 working days I am often zipping around Hook on my way as a planning officer to Waste Transfer Stations and Landfill Sites. I have never seen any police activity ref speed but will now keep my eyes open. This is the area where 4 years ago I called the police to a threatening character who took a swing at me and would not stop crushing concrete during dry weather. He did not possess any of the necessary permissions. This was in a residential area and dust was everywhere and it was very noisy. I went through the planning procedures but in the police statement they accused me of antagonizing a man who was trying to earn a living! They are obviously more conversant with their sad meters.
  2. I am a bit puzzled Nige, Is it: S Sierra N November 1 as in number1 P Pappa S Sierra ??? Great plate though!
  3. Hi and welcome. I have never driven a BMW 3 series and I am interested to know from a previous owner why you think the Lexus IS 200 is the better car.
  4. I would say 'years ago I did the advanced police driving course at Maidstone, Kent and the test car was a Ford Cortina 2000 pity it was before Lexus arrived.' I bet I would still get a ticket!
  5. The only soap I watch is Coronation Street. At the risk of someone saying 'get out more' I record it when out!
  6. Matt I would go along with your suggestions. The Govt's current view on ' no insurance' shows how out of touch they are.
  7. Sorry to hear this Bazza What the police did or did not do is totally unacceptable. The Met unit if it was nearer should have , in the interests of public safety and protection of life, crossed over the boundary and started to deal with the accident. Once the Local Surrey unit arrived the Met could have handed over. To leave people involved high and dry for over 2 hrs is not on and there has been a neglect of police procedures. The big problem is that currently police complaints are investigated by the police themselves who report to the Police Complaints Board. Until there is an independent group of investigators the situation will not improve and I do not mean a group of ex police being recruited. Any new investigation unit must be 100% independent and away from the influence of any police force.
  8. My message came up twice please read next message
  9. A good polish using elbow grease is equivalent to a workout. Come on chaps stay healthy!
  10. Lawrence Olivier once stopped his car and asked the way to Southampton Docks. I had a chat with Terry Venables when he visited The DEll.
  11. Concerning the question about rights, some lawyers are questioning and using the Court of European Rights directive that one cannot be made under penalty of law to answer a question which would convict you. i.e. Please answer on the form if you were the driver exceeding the 30mph speed limit on.... However should the police catch you speeding and produce the corroborating evidence and either warn you on the spot or serve a Notice of Intended prosecution within 14 days you and your licence have problems.
  12. I drove into a pub car park the other night at 6.15pm as an old Rover was leaving in a hurry. The 2 guys inside the car had spent 10 mins eying up all the cars. They then broke the rear window of a new Audi and stole a brief case. Some one had alerted the police but they arrived too late. You can bet that if someone reported me looking into the back of a speed camera I would be caught within 2 minutes!
  13. I am not sure about the Lexus key systems but if a de- programmed key opens the car but does not start the engine then the excercise is useless and the only option is for a new system which defeats the original key. Have Lexus some strategy in place to deal with such issues? They should have.
  14. I believe that Mr Haines of Haines Motor books has one and being a millionaire he has the choice of anything.
  15. If you push the gear stick over too much you will find yourself in reverse. The reverse 'sounds' tell you . I think this extra is first class and a MUST.
  16. I rather like it/ Good shape/ a real hot hatch ,180bhp 1997cc engine ,0-60 in 7.4 secs, Max speed 140 Price £14,995 Reviewed in the June issue of Top Gear I would like to test it out against the 197bhp Honda Civic Type R which is slightly larger and a £1000 more.
  17. I represent half of 1.45% of the membership which puts me at the wisdom end !
  18. I go along with stating your home town. Thats why I put Southampton down without a second thought. I cannot see the reason behind this cloak of secrecy which some adhere to.
  19. Great meet and very enjoyable meeting other members of the LEXI fraternity. Saw some terrific cars and one young man arrived in his greatly modified Primera. Due thanks to Claire for all her efforts.
  20. Cheers I have used what are now called the standard car wash when they first came out years ago. Rollers side and top which only cleaned half the car. Had forgotten about that, I think it was a Vauxhall Viva ( Not one of my better cars!)
  21. Chris I do not have much experience of car washes as I always clean the car at home. Why Jet Wash and not Standard Wash? What is the difference?
  22. Lexus calls them privacy windows. I think it makes cars look unbalanced and one expects to see a mafiosa type sitting in the back! I do not like them and would not have them on any of my cars.
  23. Looks too flash and a bit like a tank. Very ugly. A definite no no for me. Jeremy Clarkson referred to it in last week's TOP GEAR as a vehicle which he could imagine Los Angeles drug dealers using!
  24. Thanks Chris Tried to get the larger font and in the red colour but it did not work. Having a bad, tiring Sunday having returned from the defeat at Cardiff !
