  1. Personally I wouldn't purchase unknown brand coilovers without reviews - Tein and other quality vendors put R&D into their products to make sure they perform and are suitable for the car they are being installed on. The ones you have purchased might to good though - let us know how you find the ride and handling once you have them installed.
  2. I have a 2004 LS430 on 170k miles. Both rear airstruts are presumably leaking as the back end drops down very low after the car has been left for a few hours. When the engine is started it recovers after a few minutes and drives fine, however the compressor is a lot louder than it used to be and I'm assuming this is because it is working harder/more than it was designed to do and may be wearing out. I have decided to take the car off the road for a while and do some general repairs/maintenance and am unsure at the moment whether to replace the airstruts and compressor or to replace with new coilovers such as BC. Any advice would be greatly appreciated especially from anyone who has already carried out this mod and whether there are any pitfalls I should know about. Thanks, Paul
  3. On my LS430 it has the air-suspension which is computer controlled and compensates to a degree for the loss of damping over time because sensors detect the loss and adjust the damping to suit. However, there does come a time when, even with the best air-suspension, the damping is worn out and no amount of adjustment can compensate. Mine isn't there yet and when it gets there (or when it starts to droop) it'll undoubtedly be expensive but I'll deal with that when I get to it. When it happens I may just convert to coilovers and live with the body roll. When I bought my LS430 I also tested several LS400s and whilst I liked most of them they did roll and wallow during energetic cornering, which none of the LS430s did. The two LS460s I drove were even more stable under hard cornering but they suffered from "numb" steering. The LS430 was (for me) the best compromise. It still has most of the waftiness of the LS400 but can be hustled through country lanes at silly speeds and cope nicely, especially when in Power & Sport modes. Yes, the 430/460 are more complex and have more to go wrong, but that complexity is there for a reason and it does work, and work well.
  4. If you're talking about suspension parts, it doesn't matter if it's LHD or RHD. 220d has same suspension components as IS250. There's also a problem with aligning these cars.. there isn't a lot you can do. Not many parts are adjustable. I had to get IS200 rear toe arms to adjust the toe when I got coilovers for example..

  7. Looking for a set of decent and cheap coilovers for my first gen IS200 - i'm thinking about TEIN Street Advance Z or similar. Also looking for a supercharger, mounting bracket and pulley. Might also be interested in an LSD and solid (single mass) flywheel.

  10. I had similar from the front left corner. Couldn't put my finger on it after constant testing. I changed out the old OEM shocks for coilovers and the noise went away. Can only assume the old shocks had seen better days.
  11. I fitted bc racing coilovers most on here run meister rs I am pleased with mine they are both about the same price, mine fitted laser alignment and corner balanced, so car sits even, worked out at £1100 this was a company called tuned in Wrexham, 👍

Tbh had wheels changed, coilovers and spacers done over a 2 week period coilovers made big improvement and I can lower my car so other than looks not sure if spacers have improved handling I am not that good a driver to know and if I really feel the need for speed l can borrow this to play with
  13. That suspension kit is available on ebay and price seems to vary quite a bit? The normal recommendation for coilovers are meister Rs I went for Bc racing recommended by the company who fitted them they are suspension specialists and sponsor their own rally team! There are 32 stiffness settings and fully adjustable ride height, total cost for 4 shocks plus laser alignment and corner balancing was around £1100 and I am well chuffed with mine, one little tip is to cut a hole in your rear carpet above the shocks makes them easier to adjust and fit, i will try and post some photos if I can find them I also have quality wheel spacers,Stew
  14. Evening All, Reading the above with interest as mine is now out of storage and is to be my daily for the foreseeable. My my main focus is on ride comfort and quality, I'm not a fan of so called 'sporty' handling mods that make a harsh crashy ride. Can the coilovers be set to improve or match the ride of the standard set up? Is there a recommendation for a make of coilover? Is the attached suspension set up available as a kit does anyone know? A great post👍I have pretty much done all of your list on my 2005 with 63 k when I bought it, have also replaced front speakers with a pair of Arcam speakers off an old i fi, I have had coilovers fitted but at about £1k however as rear shocks were £350 a side to replace to me its a no brained also had full respray (which it did not need,) so about £6/7k spent on the car, to put this in perspective my brother spent £ 80k on a porsche 911 and had a few issues and found the dealer not very helpful so decided to sell it back to them losing £8k in 6 months🤔
  16. I'm sure the steering will be much sharper after the bushes and arms are replaced. It's a convertible so there will always be some flex in it but the uprated sway bars will provide a more positive cornering experience. I noticed it more at the back with the ISF ARB upgrade than the Aristo front bar. It's well worth doing if you're looking for a little less drama through the quicker twisty bits. It's a lot more expense after everything else but I would also consider the merits of swapping the struts whilst you have the car off the ground. Just about everyone agrees adjustable coilovers are the best upgrade for the car ...and fancy speakers, I might look into that. 👍
  17. Malc - It was more like, "ooh that sounds nice. I'll have it sir, thank you very much" 😛 Glyn - That service must have cost a pretty penny from Lexus. I went for a mid-priced one thinking that you have to spend a bit of money to fix up an old car regardless of the cost. Neil - I am sure I could have continued driving it as is with some new tyres and brakes. Even the PS leak was not that bad enough to make the fluid level drop quickly. I went for the most cost effective option when repairing the sound system. Don't really listen to music much. There are a lot of really nice HIfi speakers that use 6 1/2" and 4" drivers if someone wanted something fancy. I'll see if the bushings etc make a difference, not willing to spend the money on coilovers yet. Might try increasing the preload on the steering rack a tiny bit to see what that does. Is there anything else that can be done to improve the steering?
  18. Well that was an excellent thread starter piece. Some of those maintenance and repairs on an old SC430 are to be expected as you said but I think you were a little unlucky with a few on the list. Good idea to use some 8ohm speakers from home hifi spares to match the LM set up. Once the suspension, steering and pedal lag is addressed, I think you will see what a good thing the SC430 can be. The later suspension was a significant improvement, a decent set of coilovers can help transform it to something that behaves quite well for convertible.
  19. A week later the car went for another trip to Wales with more smiles and once I returned home, more carbon was waiting for me. Then the more expensive modifications started to take place with new coilovers added, to replace the tired OEM set up that started clunking during the return home from Wales.
  20. Thanks Steve. Couldn't find any on the Bay for mk1 early model all for mk2. Coilovers option but cheapest I've found is £600 in UK but been advised that coilovers will stiffen ride? Don't want to ruin the ride quality.

  22. Well, I finally did it... I bought an IS300 and sold the IS200 today. It was very sad to see it go back I've put a lot of time into that car, but it's time to move on to a bigger and better platform! I bought the IS200 back in Feb 2020 for £1950. I proceeded to put around £1000 into it and sold it for £3200 today. I paid £4000 for the 300 last week. Here she is... I may also open up the headlights and make them a little darker. NA-T conversion for around 300whp. CD009 manual swap because auto is... auto 😁 If you have any idea what spring rate will give me good handling and a decent comfortable ride, please let me know. Perhaps 10/8? The 300 is a totally different car. The steering is heavier, the handling is a little stiffer, the 2JZ makes it SO much more enjoyable to drive. That low down torque is such a massive improvement over the 200. Anyways, this will be the build thread.   23. Short message as it’a not Lexus specific wheel. I ran these 5x112 20” wheels on my RCF with pcd correction bolts with no issues. Did the NC500 with them. I’ve just reduced these on eBay.   24. Now then lads, Just an update... got coilovers that were actually made for the 220d, along with a full camber kit as im dropping the dump truck of a car down 40mm, and complete strut brace kit. Next is the sway bars and that should take care of ant body roll. I want a LSD but ive been reading and there are alot of mixed feelings about getting one... Any thoughts? Then im aiming to upgrade the turbo starting with a new headgasket, then boost control, and a sprint boster which shoukd kill any dead spots in acceleration. Then intercooler + pipes, straight exhaust from turbo going back, and finally a remap. Im going to juice whatever hp i can get out of that engine.
  25. Hi all, I've seen reference to strut braces (available in the UK) for the SC430 but despite looking everywhere cannot find any except in the US. If anyone knows where I can get one in the UK please can you PM me the details. It's part of a full suspension upgrade, Meister coilovers, uprated anti roll bars and so on. Thanks to everyone who has posted their experiences doing this, it's all very useful.
