  2. Personally, after looking at the LBX and the UX, I was unimpressed mainly on vfm. Way too expensive for what you get and I didn't think either had the premium feel of the RX. A test drive in the UX was quite impressive though. The car handled very well and had surprising punch and very good handling. I had, briefly, considered one as a replacement to our RX3 but the total lack of space in the boot (it's almost useless for anything bar one suitcase) and the OTR price ruled it out for us. I ended up going back to a newer RX with no regrets. The reason touch screens are used, in spite of the marketing claims aiming to widen appeal, is that touch screens are far cheaper to manufacture and integrate with vehicle systems over well laid out buttons. I'd far rather have the choice as I found the touchscreens in both the UX and the RZ I tried very distracting. I have no issues with the trackpad. It takes some getting used to but when you do, much like the older mouse system, it's easy to use without having to use a touchscreen. I suspect, this will be our last Lexus, as I'm not a fan of the styling or the build and attention to detail of the newer ones compared with the older models.
  3. That's the one Andy, same place, same crack, same result. Being sorted today.
  4. It was before I owned the car, the documentation states Recall VGG05, if you google that there is some info from Lexus Australia, looks like it's the low pressure pump. https://lexusmanuals.com.au/docs/safety-recall-fuel-pump-replacement-vgg05/
  5. In my view absolutely the right thing to do. Trade supremacy has been Chinas long term plan and it's worked very well for them. I remember doing a business model project has part of my Quants. In essence to win I priced/scaled the rest out of business. Hardly real life of course, but the underlying concept is the war we have been in with China for decades. We reaped the benefits of low inflation from that of course, but the downside was also massive, but of course harder to see.
  6. If it has a full service history (preferably Lexus or well documented if not) then it is a very reliable car and so just the usual car checks need to be done - like making sure all electrics and toys work properly and no warning lights etc. and checking for accident damage/repair. Although relatively cheap to run day-to-day and for routine maintenance when things out of the ordinary go wrong it can be very expensive for parts/labour (although there are sources of parts available from outside the UK that can be much cheaper). As there are relatively few of them there are not so many non-Lexus replacement (pattern) parts available and not too many second hand through breakers. Some parts are common with Toyota of course and so they are more available. If you are buying from a Lexus dealer the car should come with a comprehensive 12 month warranty. Regards the hybrid battery they are very robust with very few reported issues. My car is 10 years old in September and done 146K miles and no issues at all with the hybrid battery and fuel consumption is just as good as it ever was (if that drops then it can be a sign of a hybrid battery issue). As @Notamech mentioned, the hybrid battery can be covered under warranty for up to 15 years and unlimited mileage by having an annual hybrid health check undertaken by a Lexus dealers every 12 months or 10K miles (whichever comes first) - the cost of this is about £60. It's also done as part of a Lexus service for free. The only hybrid battery replacements I have seen on this forum for the IS 300h in 7 years were a couple with mileage at around 200K miles - but there have been others that have exceeded that without issue. The technology is very similar to the Toyota Prius and has proven reliable with those cars with many running over 200/300k miles without an issue. If you are buying privately or from a non-Lexus dealer it could be worth getting the hybrid health check done by a Lexus dealer as part of the deal? Although the mileage is low and so one wouldn't expect an issue it would give peace of mind and once the hybrid health check has been done you can then just keep renewing it every 12 months / 10k miles (whichever comes first) from there up to the 15 years old.
  7. It's just two items not being fully compatible by design unfortunately. You might be able to get away with buying a MagSafe iPhone case. You can charge through it, and that should level out the back of the phone, so you won't have that raised step around the camera.
  8. Hi Tom I share your pain on this issue, I understand that if we use AC Cooling the range of course will be compromised as the compressor uses a fair amount of energy, mine drops off about 40 miles off a full charge range. Like you I would like to be able to vent the car with normal outside air at the ambient temperature, however the system I believe is inadequate as it is unable to do so, and you will have noticed as soon as you turn on the fans the range plummets. So this also tells me that the published range figures are incorrect because the car would have to be in its normal state for testing, so who on earth can drive a car without any fresh air to ventilate the car?? I have raise the issue with Lexus but received a fob off response. A premium brand car should be able function correctly, most other cars when you turn the AC off you can still have fresh air entering without the system turning the AC back on!!! Please sort it out Lexus I have been complaining about this frustrating situation for months and this adds to range anxiety. 😠 I have been asking about the software update also, not happened yet. 10. The fan will not operate on its own. I have asked Customer Service and the dealer many times how the fan can be used on its own and they say it can’t. I tried changing the setting to ‘not turn on the aircon with Auto’ and it made no difference. I asked CS why have this option if when turning on the fan it operates the aircon and they couldn’t provide an answer. I think the only way to get outside air in under a bit of pressure is to open a window ! In my car it is no longer a problem as I am one of the lucky ones with the update. I have the air / heating on Eco (not the drive) and so the range only drops about 6 miles out of 220 which is neither here nor there. It used to drop from 200 to 160 which was a major concern, hence me originally badgering the dealer and Customer Service for an answer.
  11. Hi Andrew. Was that the low pressure pump in the petrol tank or the high pressure pump on the engine?
  12. Hello I have noticed that using the fan causes the same drop in the range figure as using A/C. Would anybody have an idea how to get the outside air at outside temperature into the cabin? I turned the NanoeX off, in-cabin air circulation “off and on” but the range drops by quite a margin. I cannot find anything in the manual that mentions this issue. Thank you Tom
  13. 250 UX 300E's are currently registered in the Netherlands plus 1.711 of her Hybrid cousins, so the changes are slim that the driver is also a member of this community. But we give it a try. Yesterday [20th of May around 12:30 hrs ] we drove on the road from Haler to Neeritter [Limburg, the Netherlands] when we spotted a white UX . And we drove behind her till we reached Neeritter. We are no tailgaters so we couldn't see or hear is it was a hybrid one or an electric one. Anyone from here?
  14. Well the hybrid battery is covered by lexus for up to 15 years IF a hybrid health check is run at lexus annually. So perhaps ask if this is done. Also early models had issues with the waterpump leaking so look under the hood for pink crust. The water pump is in the front of the engine its hard to miss its the only thing driven by a belt. Else not much else goes wrong with these cars if maintained well. Ideally look for one that has full lexus history that way you know for sure that all important maintenance has been done.
  15. I have done over 25k miles on my 20 inch Bridgestones and they still have lots of tread.
  16. Well done 👍 Hope the new owner continues viewing and contributing here too Malc
  17. Sold to a really nice 20 year old lad who will look after it! Sad to see it go!
  18. It does seem as if these are relatively rare cars to be stolen, but until Lexus send out a message that they and all others in the brand are now proofed against canbus theft, then I fear they are still potential targets. Just as Andy says, it's one thing to have a tracker fitted, but the lo life may well still rip off the bumper and cause significant and expensive damage. Far better that Lexus cars are seen/known to be a waste of time for burglar Bill when and if the mythical security fix(s) actually happen.
  19. My LBX arrives in Bristol today. How do I now Track it in the UK please ? Tel
  20. It may help to diagnose the problem if you can provide a bit more information about how the "over-revving" problem presents itself. For example... 1. Does the engine start normally from cold and then gradually idle faster and faster until it sits at 2500 rpm (or some other figure you can name) when the car is fully warmed up ? 2. Does it idle steadily at the higher speed when warm, or does the engine speed cycle up and down like you were gently prodding the throttle ? 3. If you "blip" the throttle (give it a quick prod to make the engine speed jump) a few times when it is idling high, does it always settle back to the same revs or does it settle lower sometimes ? 4. Any other comments about curious throttle or idle behavior you can think of ? There are a number of possible causes of high idle and the more information you can provide the better the chances are that someone will say... "Yeah, I had that happen to me and this is how we fixed it" 😄 Cheers...
  21. The two main reasons are the rear ones atleast are badly designed with a blind slide bolt design and awful rubber boot which is fiddly to get on, and the second that most mechanics including lexus technicians arent very thorough and don't do things properly ! As far as Im aware greasing the slide pins with silicone paste or appropriate lubricant isnt part of their service itinerary, which is why they tend to seize up. If you can successfully refurbish the brakes one time and just periodically grease the pins every 6 months to a year you should have trouble free brakes EDIT: Binh from the US has a good video on the rear calliper slide bolt maintenance thats worth a watch

  23. Hello all, I've been looking at Lexus IS for a while now. Going to see a 2013 Premier with 66k on the clock and looks like it's in good condition. Is there any red flags I should be aware of, what sort of condition would the hybrid battery be in now that car is 11yrs old? Many thanks😁
  24. This ^^^^. Having looked at all the DIY and a few professional fixes, I have reached the same conclusion. At the moment I only have the driver's door to do, and when this fix comes to the top of my "things to do" list I will get a fresh blade and give it a try. Then get some of the de-chrome vinyl strip used for wrapping/blacking out chrome trim, and see how that works. Even better would be to find someone local who wraps cars. Go to see them carrying a box of beers and get them to apply the strip of vinyl 😄 Cheers...
  25. Interested to see this installed and your verdict.
  26. Well we took a 2 hour test drive and I have to say the LBX is a lovely car to be in and drive, smooth, quiet, responsive and very refined. But - had to be a but - my wife could not get comfortable in the passenger seat. Tried it every way and found it was most comfortable at its lowest setting, but then too low to see anything! After much scrabbling about we found that as the seat is raised the rear of the seat rises more than the front so it begins to "slope” downwards from back to front, you then lose support along your thighs and behind the knees. Couldn’t find anyway to adjust the tilt of the seat to compensate. The test car was a Takumi trim with an electric drivers seat and on that as well as raising the seat you can also tilt the squab to maintain support behind the knees. Great for the driver but not available for the passenger. So sadly we are reconsidering our options, booked a test drive in the new Mini Countryman so will see how we get on in that. Incidentally how they can call the new Countryman a Mini escapes me! It is longer than a Qashquai which is hardly mini’ish. Probably end up just keeping my Skoda Yeti as this rate!!
