Stop/ Start -low mileage

Recommended Posts

My mileage is less than 4000 a year -if that.

What are the advantages of stop start in the fuel stakes against Battery / wear on the ignition system. Sat there at lights with headlights or running lights / heater or air con/ stereo going after a mile from home clearly isnt sensible - or is it

What do people do  ? I'm forever reaching for the off switch.

I'd like to think that Toyota/Lexus have supplied a Battery that is suitable for this use case - certainly a standard 'flooded' Battery wouldn't cope too well. Many of the Toyota range has had stop/start for years now so if there were any reliability issues those should be known and corrected by now.

shouldnt really be an issue in terms of wear and tear - no research suggests that it puts any noticeable strain on components and therefore it should be negligible

Whether it saves fuel or not, or even whether it saves a significant amount of fuel is debatable.
