My mk4 has had a leaking y-pipe to cat join and a hole in the y-pipe since purchase in Jan 2017.  I think winter has taken its toll as it’s become gradually louder and louder.

As there was another thread recommending Powerflow, I took it the branch in Slough who have some excellent feedback.  Unfortunately they could not match the £200 quoted by other chaps , in fact it came to twice this at £400 for a replacement y-pipe, and removal of the single silencer

So not cheap, but compares well to the standard Lexus item at £380 + vat.

I was fearing the worst re interior noise with the extra silencer removed, but it’s so much quieter now with the flanges sealed and the hole in the y-pipe (under the heat shield) and the hole in the silencer removed.

Performance has picked up too, it’s much more responsive at low rpms and doesn’t get bogged down.  The new pipework is 2.25” versus the 2” pipe of the original, may this has something to do with it?

I can’t believe how quiet it is now - both at town and motorway speeds.  It’s inaudible at idle, very Lexus-ish.

Anyway, not cheap but it works really well plus the fitters are only 30mins away should I have any issues (lifetime warranty in my ownership). I may get the rest of the pipework done as and when.

Looks smart .............  in stainless presumably

Thanks

so it was blowing at purchase on 103k miles.

I only had the heat shield on one 'arm' of the y-section - this section had failed completely where it joined the single silencer on the leg of the Y

Yes, 304 stainless - not the 409 stuff which is more susceptible to corrosion

looks good ........... doesn't seem to have lasted very long from new compared to the experiences of other members, well me, with my exhaust longevity.

Maybe the Mk4 exhausts weren't made of the same stuff as the earlier models

Great information. I'll take mine there when mine needs doing, and nice to be able to do it bit by bit, and then assess any noise changes, droning etc.

Yes, i like the modular approach they offer - the mid and rear sections are not cheap at £800 for both (retaining all 4 silencers) so just as well, however cheaper for the slightly sportier setups with only 2 silencers.

I was told the silencers would be made to order hence the expense, however it would offer factory levels of refinement.

I'm still smiling at how quiet it is.  You have to rev it over 4k to hear it.
