Mobile Speed Cameras

Slightly :offtopic: but did anyone see traffic cops the other night (think it was a repeat)

Ultra high tech vans operating in South Yorkshire - normal white vans marked up as 'Safety Camera Partnership', not mentioning police or anything.

Hold the record for catching speeders - issued 260 tickets in 2 hours! That's one every 30seconds! And these things aren't revenue making????? My ****

And the bloke using the camera has 3 points for doing 72 in a 60 zone. Hmmmm pot, kettle, black?

I think that the mobile units use a slightly different technology, so they wouldn't be picked up by a detector.

The one they used on TV the other night , just fires a laser at the vehicle, and then receives one back to the hand held device.

I had a detector in my jeep, but still got done by a mobile unit

Although it was an old detector unit, I'm not too sure about the newer type!

well i presome these things use OCR tehnology

so maybe a nice black screw placed somewhere will screw it up for the OCR to work

Also cop cars use OCR to track cars with no insurance and tax.

a lot of detectors have laser detection

but... but by the time it has warned you they have allready caught you :crybaby:

unless it can pick up signal early from another car in front

laser jammers not highly legal , i thought

Paid just short of £400 pound early last year, for what at the time was advertised as one of the best detectors, backed up by independent reviews. After a week the thing was up for sale on eBay. The main reason i bought it was for the mobile units which it is completely useless against, just beeped all the time when you passed sliding doors as apparently they use the same frequency as the sighted cameras. My advise would be to avoid and pay for a diffuser, illegal but unless your getting stopped every 2 minutes who would no and then you can play dumb and say it was on the car when you bought it.

that would be the X band it is picking up - as u say used by garages etc, BUT this can normally be switched off and anyway police in UK dont use X band for any cameras/speed traps.
