Lexus Is200, £11500 Approx? Realistic?

Hi All

Newbie to the forums, so please dont blast me down.. not searched yet..... however...

I am really thinking of getting a Lexus IS200 now, was recently looking at Seat Leon Cupra's around the same sort of figure I want to spend...

Am I being realistic by wanting a Lexus IS200 for about £11500? If so, anyone know of any good places to get one at this price? I want a warranty of some form, as I hear servicing of these cars is expensive and parts are too?

Anyone had any experience with Lexus in Southampton? If so, are they any good?

I was thinking also of an Altezza, but think the insurance may be too much seeing as I am only 22yrs old.

Any opinions or links would be great.

Cheers all

£11'500 should get you a nice lex these days EVEN from a Lex dealer, the lexus used warranty is brilliant.

approximately 6/7p per mile in maintenance*. and around 23-35 mpg, mice averages to about 25-27.

*based on 20'000 miles, covering servicing tyres, spares and a little extra. Does not include Road Tax, MOT or Insurance

Why cant I find any lexus IS200 sport for this figure?

Have been searching for a while, also have southampton lexus on the lookout and see if they can get one for me... no joy so far...

Where is the best place to find an RS200 import then? Have looked at bonsaicars.com etc but nothing in at the moment....

the mileage, for me, is a problem. I dont want a v high mileage car. With 72k on the clock its rather high for the year. Dealer said I could easily get a V reg (99) with about 40k on the clock for 11.5k

Hi Pabs .. as far as Southampton Lexus...the guy you want to deal with is Steve Phyall ... top bloke!! I am collecting a is200 on Saturday, and my father collected his 2 weeks ago...The guy cannot help you enough, with mine he even went ahead and had ALL the alloys refurbed without my commenting on them. Yesterday they had a '52' plate black sport in which must have just arrived, but dont know how much..maybe a little rich for you ??..As far as Altezzas go..Bonzai cars at Sothampton DOcks gate 4 ... they will bid for you, and obtain one, but it takes about 2 months. They did (last week) have one in the shed which they had robbed some bits from, that they have for sale. It is one of the quicker RS200 variants, big bore exhaust, tiptronic gears etc...but unfortunately i prefer creature comforts such as Half leather etc...or maybe i am ready for my pipe and slippers...lol. Anyway..good luck mate with the search !!!

Bonsai cars also dont seem to reply to emails etc, so no luck there either...

Ah well, the hunt continues...!

Wow, cheers for those links mate. That site is quite cool too... lots of listing on there.

Is there a big difference between the is200 and the sport? Sunroof, yada yada, but is it worth the price difference?

The IS200 (or IS200 s as it was called) doesn't have half leather, heated seats, sunroof, has a lower spec stereo and only 16" wheels.

There isn't much difference between SE and Sport - the sport has slightly lowered suspension, metal scuff plates on the door seals, metal pedals, rear spoiler, tinted rear windows and a LSD.

I have the SE,

Mine has full tints, (sports only have rear privacy glass)

I have the metal scuff plates ...... and hey, for £200 - £250 , I can get it lowered 30mm, where as the Sport is only 15mm difference !

I like the SE ! , though I do want the SPORT grille. (soon though .... )

You haven't got the LSD though - that will cost you a bit more to fit than all the other things put together.

Remember even the sport doesn't come with the 'sport' grille.

If you do want to go down the Altezza route, its well worth waiting for and as said before Scott is a top guy and even though he's busy its well worth waiting to get the right Lex that you want.

Mind you once you've owned a Lex you hate driving other cars (Had 2 Avensis since parting with my GS300 Mk1..getting Altezza RS next.. thats why Scott is so busy)
