300Sport correct tyre sizes

After moving wheels around cars, and now picking up a set of 8.5 x 18's - i'm no longer sure of the correct tyre sizes.

Can someone enlightened me to correct fronts & rears - i assume there's a difference.

I've had the correct tyres fitted from the garage. They fitted 255 55 16 to both the front and rear.

I think they should be 245/40 ZR18 I'd have to check though

The styling kit 18's are 225/40/18's on the IS200 and 225/35/18's on the IS300.

That is what they are in Lexus Sheffield's showroom anyway.

On the IS300, like mine, they were Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's, but after speaking to someone else with the sport kit, it turns out that he had Goodyear Eagle F1's fitted to his from new. Any idea why anyone? I thought car manufacturers usually stuck to one tyre company.:?::?::?::?:

Andy, I thought the styling kit and alloys were fitted by Lexus UK once the car arrived in the UK. They probably fit whatever they get a good deal on.

When I got mine it had Bridgestone's fitted, but I noticed others had Dunlops. The dealer said it seems quite random what tyres are fitted at the factory.

My Mk1 Sport has got 245/40 ZR18 on the 8.5" rims at the front. The 10" rims at the back have 275/35 ZR18.

I'm sure that they are the correct sizes.

For what it's worth I wouldn't recommend the Conti Sport Contacts that are on their at the moment - awesome in the dry but poo in the wet !!!:(

In relation to this I have a question I thought I'd post here rather than start another tyre thread:

Which tyre speed rating do I need for 8"/10" wide Sport alloys on a Series I GS Sport, do they have to be specifically W, Y or Z or can I use any of those ratings?

Use any of those ratings. You could even use V rated tyres as the top speed of the GS300 is 143mph and V rating is 149mph although you probably wouldn't find V rating on that size of tyre.

W - 168 mph

Y - 186 mph

Z - 150+ mph

I thought that either of their speed ratings was good enough, but it's been a while since I've had to change any tyres and wanted to double check.
