We've found CyberSitter very good. Can choose what you block, set allowed times for internet access etc.

I only ever use MSN and have to admit I've never been into a 'chat room'. Can you just type in an address and go?

This is the sort of thing that I would want to filter out if i had kids. So if any chat-room URL is entered they have to give a password etc etc.

The BT internet software has some very good tolls on it, incluidng a reporting tool that will email you a report about what was done by each user (following setting that you input)

With CyberSitter you can choose to disable MSN Messenger etc. It's user specific so CyberSitter for my windows 2000 account allows everything but for my daughter's it filters and limits her time on the PC.

I have Norton 2005,which has a blocking thingy on it, but as it's only me and wifey at home,I don't know how good it is

very hard to monitor everything

remember most kids will know more than you in how to disable things

you can check history

you can log chat sessions

so it might be worth regulary checking these things every so often

that and spot checks when she is on it, the quick rush to close pages gives the game away

warn her about the perils of internet life

tell her never to talk to anyone called aido

failing that you will have to sit next to her
