Is This Going To Be Expensive....?

I'm about to have my 60k service, i've only had the car 3 months, and i'm Still chasing up the service history from the dealer that I bought it off, the last Lexus service was at 40k and was in 2005, the car is a 2000 X

I suspect from this information, the cambelt/timing belt wasn't done (sorry if i've used incorrect terminology there) and i'm sure the Sparks are due too

the price at my local Lexus dealer for service alone is £225

I have just had this done at a non-lexus garage (well 120k) and it cost me £220 with spark plugs.

You can save yourself a few £ by getting some IK20 Spark Plugs and fitting them yourself, just tell your service centre not to change the plugs but do everything else.

Cambelt is correct as stated by P4ul its required at 100k or 10years.

My 2001 GS300 had it's 60,000 service in December 2006. When I asked about the cambelt, they said every 6 years or 100,000 miles. I didn't want to chance it so I coughed up and had it done. With the cambelt, plugs, major service, air con service, other drive belt etc it came to £1200 with discount. The cambelt change at a Lexus dealer was only a couple of hundred pounds but bear this in mind, I used to run a Peugeot 206 1.9 diesel as a driving school car and a cambelt change at a Peugeot dealer almost left me £900 worse off. As these are apparently interference engines (pistons smash into valves) I would defanitly get it done.

my last service cost around 400 quid, get sparks yourself or they will charge you nearly a tenner each. that 60 quid straight away. i had new brakes on which bumped up the price. any non lexus garage should be able to sort you out for around 200-250

Mines going in on Tuesday for the 60k - local garage - £225 all in. Lexus wanted £650 for the privelige. A service history is a service history and at the end of the day I know all of the guys at the local garage and trust them to do a good job - They're all mechanics at the end of the day so my money stays local now.

You could speak with HSR (Hyper Sports & Racing) in Hindley Green-ish. They are based on the Industrial Estate sort of opposite Turner's factory on Wigan Road.

Their website can be found here: http://www.hypersr.com/index2.html

They are a specialised Jap garage and have helped me out in the past. Also bought a few bits 'n' bobs from here and can honestly say I trust them. Not sure on prices but that's what they're there for - just ask.

Contact Number: 0845 225 0111

Speak with either Chris or Stuart and tell 'em I sent ya :D

Yeh I thought the cambelt was more frequesnt than 10 years on an IS, can anyone else confirm this?

Just checked my service manual and it says 100k or 10 years...I don't know if the newer models are the same, wouldn't think it would make any difference.

I'll have probably sold the car for a newer model within the next 10k, If theres plenty of life left in it, I might as well save the cash

hi, i too was in the same dilemma regarding the cambelt , my car came up to being six years old and i was advised by the dealer to get the cam belt done at 60k even though its only done 35k. so i emailed lexus gb and asked them, they told me its been changed from the 10year, 100k interval to the 6 year 60k, even though the service manual says 10 years. i had it done at the end for peace of mind.

Hi, yes the cambelt interval was changed to 60000miles or 6 years, the service book recommendation is wrong!!!!!!!!!!! It is no longer 100000miles or 10 years.

This is confirmed, as it is written on the tick sheet that you get given when a main dealer services the car, it took me a while to find this info out as the dealers all had different opinions on it.

I had mine replaced by the main dealer but had it paid for by the garage I bought the car off, as a deal that i negotiaited before i bought the car :D , saved me a small fortune.!!! :winky:

Regards Pumatron.

anyone know what it costs to have the cambelt done by Lexus then? i'm starting to add up the figures, looks like it'll be an expensive service after all, might be worth holding onto the car for a long time rather than finding a newer one if i'm going to make a hefty spend, or i'll just be leaving myslef out of pocket

Why take to lexus when it will cost you ££££s. take to good independant garage to do for you :D

For full service, and your cambelt should cost you about £450 all in, with parts/vat :D
