Server Downtime March 16th

As some of you may have noticed we have an quite a long spell of downtime this afternoon.

I had planned to reboot the server this afternoon due to a database problem. I had left this problem for over a week finding a right time to take the boards down and this afternoon was the right time so if we encounter problems then there is time to repair the problem.

However, more problem arose after the reboot and caused 3 databases to corrupt. One of them being LOC posts table. Seeing as there are over 500,000 rows in this table we had to run a check through every single post in order to fix this table. This took over 4 hours to complete.

It does not end there. It seems there is a problem with the operating system so I was advised to reload the operating system too.

So next week we are ordering new servers which I hope will be a great upgrade and will start seeing a great upgrade to the club service. This does require a small bit of downtime to sync the databases over to the new server. But I will be keeping this to a minimum as possible. Perhaps do it very early hours of the morning.
