Replacement Exhaust For A 96 Ls400

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to this, so might be doing it all wrong !! Anyway, does anyone know where I could acquire a replacement exhaust system (or certain parts of one) for a 96 LS400. I've been told that Lexus are no longer manufacturing them. The rest of the car is superb, so it's certainly not ready for an early grave just because of this.

PM me your chassis number and the parts you require and I will tell you if they are still available :) and how much.

Hi, I had a thread followed on here about exhausts on the LS400 a while back. Nobody, absolutely nobody had ever seemed to need to replace a LS400 exhaust !!!

The only problem that ever seemed to be mentioned was at the front end with the cats and the flanges and the solution seemed to possibly weld.

I'm no mechanic BUT I do know that it's just incredible the longevity of this car's exhaust system.

Any thoughts ?

Malc

Hi and welcome.

As Malc says, there are threads on here. Just use the search facility at the bottom left. Use exhaust as a term but use others too, flanges, cats etc.

There are no pattern parts available, so nipping down to Kwikfit is a waste of time. I very much doubt you will need a whole system and If you do, Lexus would want a very large sum.

The options are

to find a sound used system/part system

to replace the flanges and the odd other bit

buy a new one - if you can find/afford 1

have a specialist make a system/part system.

See the older threads and then come back here.

Thanks Malc,

I'm no mechanic either, so I think the best route will be for me to pass on your reply to the guy that looks after my lovely car and hope he can work with that. Thanks again for pointing me in what is probably the right direction.

if i was you i would spend a little more money and have a stainless steel exhaust made up as i did for my gs300 sport well worth the money.i had a powerflow one made up to standard spec looks and sounds very nice.

hi exhaust cost €540.00 inc vat fitted life time guarantee.it was fitted by mr tyre in boston lincs took about half a day to do.

Thanks very much indeed for all this advice (and pic.s) and I'll certainly consider the bespoke stainless steel option. It's a lot of great car at the moment worth nothing if I don't deal with the exhaust so, even though £500+ seems a lot for an exhaust, it'll be worth every pound I'm sure.

Thanks again

There is normally someone on Fleabay doing a full stainless steel replacement for £350.00

Thanks.

I'll keep an eye out on eBay. And thanks for the 2 links which I've already looked at.

This forum has been really helpful and I now feel I have a number of options, so will pursue the ones that best fit my circumstance and location.

Thanks again for your help on this.

Sorry but what is that supposed to mean??? are you implying that I fall into that categorey or are you just making a sweeping generalisation of your low opinion of dealers?

It would appear our friend had a mad hour or so to spare!
