Fuel Economy

I have just bought a 2004 Lexus is200 after owning Vauxhalls all my life - what a car, will never ever ever buy a vauxhall again!!! Just getting used to the new driving characteristics of the Lexus now. Filled tank up last week and took it to Scotland on a 340 mile journey and got there with a quarter tank to spare. Think i will get 400-450 out of a full tank. Does anyone know if this sounds about right for the car. Any tips for mods on the car to increase fuel ecomomy. Motorway driving is ace - around town it is quite heavy on fuel but i guess so is every other car.

First impressions of the car are brilliant.

Another question - were these cars manufactured with a stainless steel exhaust?

The Lexus IS200 was indeed manufactured with a stainless steel exhaust system.

With regards to fuel economy, do the usual stuff i.e tyres inflated to correct pressure etc... apart from that there's not much you can do. I find that the economy suffers if I take the rev needle above 3000rpm. Below that it seems to just sip the juice. If you have a manual and around town driving I find you can happily skip gears, first to third, second to fourth... keeps the revs low using the torque and saves on the juice..

400-450 per tank is the same as what I get out of mine with a mix of town and motorway driving. From what I've found, you can drive with a lead foot or like Miss Daisy and it always gets the same. :D

Some people put the car in "snow mode" on motorways. It dulls the sensitivity of the throttle thereby saving fuel. I think it is excellent on motorways especially with the car's inherent refinement. As you say though, terrible economy in town driving. It is only marginally better than the ISF, and that's a V8 with over 400bhp.

Travelling no faster than the motorway speed limit officer , a long run returns me 33mpg. Short trips round town 24...... as others say tho. I didn't buy it for the MPG. The cars just a lot more refined than one of my previous "estates" which was a legnum vr4. Much quicker thank the Lexus but no suspension travelling and big enigne noise... wasnt ideal for transporting babies around.

vpower only mate..its the chargers fault i just love the sound!!!!

So it was YOU making all that bloody noise outside while I was trying to watch a show in a portakabin at Pleasance then was it !!!!!!

Not much else tosay about MPG, apart from keeping the car properly serviced, tyre pressures...if you have been to WIM for the treatment Bones says go up to 25 per corner. Me I don't worry too much enjoying the car is more important IMO.

Hi,i dont think they were made with a full stainless steel exhaust system(they have a stainless steel tail pipe only)however you can buy one or have one custom made.
