Hi,

Just joined, picked up a lexus IS 220d yesterday, 07 plate 37k on the clock. Nice nick in all.

I am just pondering whether to buy a warranty or not, choices, choices.

Opinions welcome!

Welcome to the club.... I took out an extended warranty based on previous posts. Went with the Lexus Warranty and have since had nearly 2 Grand of repairs (headlight ballasts, EGR valve) so worth it IMO. The AA cover included is also a plus. There are plenty of posts on this topic and you will find more info on my experiences!

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

I cannot advise on extended warranties as mine is well out at 16 years old but on a car the age of yours I would seriously consider it for the peace of mind, even a minor problem can be big money with a Lexus.

What I would do is shop around,I don't know if the cost is fixed by the dealers but with the present economic situation Lexus seem to be discounting to attract new business and it may be worth haggling the price.

Agreed - I tried to haggle but the warranty was something my local dealer couldnt move on.

Flickering light bulbs - £1200 for new ballasts under warranty! Would have been gutted without the Lexus cover!

Hi, I'm a new member. Read your post. Just ordered a IS250 SE-L and waiting for delivery. It came with warranty in the price although it hasn't done many miles, even newish vehicles can have problems. Not being techi am intrigued by your comment on 'new ballasts'. What's that all about then?
