Picked Up Isf!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm Damo from Ireland and I've picked up an 08 ISF last month.

Love this car and coming from an RX400 h, I knew the isf would be bomb proof reliability wise.

The performance is superb, I'm just back from the Nurburgring too, which was savage in the car. There's only 3 ISFs in Ireland I'm told, so it's a pretty rare car! I'll stick up some pics too, if that's ok. Thanks guys, Damo.

Grats and welcome to the ISF club :) looking forward to some pics.

Always wondered about the ring but don't think could risk the car until value drops. What do you do for insurance?

orinsurance is covered on your own policy, lots of guys think theres wont cover an accident on the ring but they do!

Its actually classed as a closed toll road, so no probs. As for risking the car, sure, its quite dangerous but no matter how fast you are, or whatever car you have,

theres always someone faster and in a more expensive car. ive never seen as many 911s in 1 place before!! a great trip.

We had a laugh with the M5 in the first pic, he couldnt get any higher than 14.5mpg, I averaged 26.4 for the whole trip! not bad considering the

high speed stuff.

My Insurance (Direct Line) specifically excludes Nurburgring by name. Most UK insurances do too but do not make it as obvious as Direct Line, so you need to be wary about that.

Otherwise - ISF. Enjoy!

Yep every policy I have has Mention it by name and exclude it (Started about 10 or so years ago when the ring became a popular destination)

Good pics, sounds like you had a great time.

You could always just move the car away from the race track, then notify the insurance. Iveseen this done at the ring in hire cars. A mate

Leaked coolant onto the track in his 911 GT3 and 4 cars skidded on it and we're all written off, 2 911s and a CLK 350 Benz included. AXA insurance washed their hands of it until ZEE German police got involved. 400,000 euros Payed out on that one! A huge amount of Brits over there any time I'm there, so don't know how they get around it.

In truth, you don't even want to think about having an off!!

Hi Damo n nice ride :driving: !! were there any Nissan GTR's and 2008 RS6's there and how did the ISF fare against them performance wise round the track??

Hi John, plenty of GTRs nocking about there, GTRs are very popular with Dutch petrol heads! Didn't see any RS6s or 4s this time but have lots on previous trips. The ISF really is the business on the track, my mate had a Holden HSV with him, which is basically a Vauvhall VXR8 , I drove both on the track and the ISF is quicker, we didn't push the cars too much, seen as we have to get them home in one piece. I know the track fairly well but was still overtaken by a good few cars, one was a corsa VXR! That guy was mixing with GT3s and R8s so he's obviously a local. The gear change and the throttle blip come into their own on the ring when pushing the car, the V8 soundtrack isn't bad either. Can't recommend it enough, maybe an ISF road trip over is calling? Any takers.

wow a corsa VXR over took you and mixing with GT3s and R8's well am not surprised when it comes to twisties you gotta give it to the hot hatches cus they can be thrown around with no hassle..sounds like you guys had fun mite make the trip one day just for the experience and also see some high performance cars in the metal..

Its all down to knowing the track, my brother went out in the ring taxi which is a BMW M5, the new V8 model and where we are

nudging 140 mph in the ISF, the taxi is at 165mph. on weekends you could spend all day in the car park just looking at other cars not doing any laps and youd be happy!!

Yeah if it's not actually mentioned by name then you'll find it's classed as a "prepared course" and your insurance wont be valid. It's only classed as a Toll Road for German citizens not UK.

It hasn't happened to me but a close friend had an accident and had to go through the whole painful process.

So while you can claim third party cover, which they have to provide by law, you'll find there is a clause in your insurance which says that they can then claim any costs back from you which they are forced to legally cover but which they wouldn't cover normally.

Basically what this means is if because the Germans (since a German court case in 2004) class it as a toll road they have to legally provide 3rd party cover. But as most UK insurers view it as a racetrack / prepared course then they wouldn't normally pay out so they will seek to recover the costs from you.

There are a couple of insurance companies who do cover the Ring but it's a specialist policy.

Just back from the ring again on Friday, only spotted an LFA in the car park! Super looking thing in the flesh. It passed me half way around too, as I was driving a race spec Suzuki swift. Even had the air brake up as he lashed past. The sound is incredible from it.
