Should I Sell My Is300 For A Gs300?

Recommended Posts

Right, well, I absolutely love my IS300. It's the only girl who has managed to put a grin on my face everytime I slip into her! (the car I mean!) The car's a minter too - 2003, 105k miles, 12 Lexus service stamps, cambelt @ 67k and not a squeak to the ear!........ The thing is, I find myself looking more and more at the GS300 and the more I look the more I want one! It seems to have the same performance (same engine?!) and economy, same tax, same insurance etc as my car but could it possibly be more comfy and luxurious as the IS I already have???

Realistically my budget would be £3000 after selling my car and throwing some extra cash into it. Would I be able to get a mint GS for 3k that is as reliable and a similar age with full service history as what I already have?

should I buy the bigger brother???

I really hate this Lexus bug! And there is nothing you can take to cure it!

I personally wouldn't swap for a GS unless it was a mk3 ('05 onwards)...they're one of the few newer Lexus models that I really think is up there with the best in its class looks-wise, the other models still fall short of their German counterparts in the styling department in my opinion. I do like the mk1 and 2 in sport trim though with the 18's but if it were me it wouldn't feel a mk1 or 2 would be a big enough step upwards over your IS300 to warrant a change.

You'd be looking at least double your budget for a half decent mk3 though!

With the series 2 GS the economy will be slightly less, due to the extra weight. Handling isn't anyway near as good as the IS but comfort and road noise levels are better. GS trim tends to squeak and rattle more than the IS,

You will get some extra toys; memory seats, full open/close of windows from remote, electric steering wheel adjustment with auto retract etc.
