Get in the car, go straight to turn it on, lights light up, fuel needle goes up, radio on etc, but when I go from postiion 2 to start, just a click.

I turn the car off and try again, click.

Try again and hold on position 2 for an extra second and then just starts as normal.

Battery is fine, sounds a bit start motorey to me.

It might be the starter Relay also give the Battery terminals a brush with a wire brush and tweak up the terminal connection fastenings.

Well I completely forgot, I have a warranty that covers the dealer rates. They did the Lambda sensors all paid for no problem.

What a fail moment, will just dump it on the dealer!

  • 1 month later...

It happened again after cleaning terminals.

Replaced Battery with a Toyota one.

Happened again.

Will take the manifold off and have the starter rebuilt some time in the future.

Still need to do the compressor FFS but just don't get enough free time :( Gonna try this weekend !

Taking the manifold looks like a pig of a job but at least it's on your feet.

Identical symptoms to mine. OK some sometimes, just clicking another. I tried all ideas but it turned out to be the starter motor. Total invoice including parts was £370. That was just replacing the solenoid contacts not the whole motor.

Hmmm yep defo do it myself. Motor rebuild is £70. Will only take me 4-5 hours at a guess/

I had mine done at a garage by a Lexus trained mechanic who said he loves working on these cars. He started at 9.30 am and finished at 5pm. He said, the job is not so much complicated as time consuming as there are just so many parts to disconnect. Not the kind of job you want to do and find a bolt left over!

Hehe, I've done worse jobs !

I usually just put a camera on and record what I am doing from above the engine bay, any issues and I just refer to that.

He loves it because there is just a ridiculous amount of room in the engine bay to play with :D
