Oh you took the old fogies seriously?

Rule number 1 on the internet, never take anything seriously, otherwise you will be more stressed out than a Picasso driver stuck in lane 3 behind an Audi which is stuck behind a Kia!

Also you don't really need to sign your name off after each post ya know!

I am to old to get worried about those sort of things these days but its good to remind the youngsters that some people can be offended by that sort of thing. As for signing myself off each time I think its just good manners and takes very little effort. Mike

Now Now you two, stop bickering, you are ruining ny light reading in the adverts that spoil wheeler dealers (mk2 Jaaaag).

I happen to like Blues AND Pendulum, it just depends on my mood. Both sound great in Lexie but for some reason she does less MPG when Pendulum is on!!!

To be fair Sam, starting a sentence with WTF may not be the wisest choice. Most forums I've been on have had times when a topic just goes completely nuts and no one recognises it anymore. Yesterday was a bad weather day when people like me didn't bother going to work, so a forum like this can be light entertainment (to the annoyance of some of course)

Anyway, I will be looking into reversing cameras this week, thus getting back on topic.

And.....there is a link to the blues which I'm sure Mike will agree with. John Mayall wrote.."I was looking back to see, if she was looking back to see" etc etc. Obviously he needed a reversing camera!

I'm not bothered by the way threads go in fact I find it quite interesting how it starts in one place and then somehow it goes off on a life all of its own, I understand that everyone has a different point of view and as long as its civil I respect their point of view.

Lets face it if we all thought the same there would be no need for forums or any discussions, we would all drive the same car (wonder what that would be) eat the same food, wear the same clothes, read the same book, OH what a boring place it would be. Mike

I think everyone needs to chill :P

Every forum has threads that go miles off topic :P

Quite right, the idea of this forum is to help each other so let's make sure that's our priority.

What about parking sensors?

We have those on my wifes Escort estate and they only tell you when you have hit anything which hasn't stopped my wife from trying them to their extreme, I wanted to have a much larger field of vision to see pedestrians that have side vision problems and cant see a ton or so of car moving slowly backwards. I once had rear parking sensors on a big Merc ( don't know which one it was now but an expensive bugger, ( my ) a car sales stock car ) some 10 years ago and I happily :whistling: reversed into a low post that dodged the sensor placings on the rear bumper ......... before associated cameras tho'

Exactly what happened to the wife, I still let her think its her fault though. Mike

What about parking sensors?

Well as I posted recently, mine has a £13 sensor kit fitted and it's brilliant, even looks fine. I suppose If I'm really honest I like the idea of another toy!

People must appreciate that technology is there to aid, not to replace.

Parking sensors are there to help you with your decision making, they don't subsitute your eyes. If you think you're getting suspiciously close to hitting a wall then stop! If you hit the wall, then it isn't the parking sensors fault, it's the drivers fault.

Now all the parking sensors I have come accross have been a wonderful aid and I've never had a problem. When it's a new car to you make sure they're on, creep slowly backwards, wait for the beeps, if there are no beeps and I think I am close, then I call it a day and go forward myself and ignore the sensor. Then later on I manually check if the sensors are working or if I chickened out too early, usually it's me chickening out and then I get more gutsy.

I agree. It's like sat nav, it's not designed to to take the place of common sense, if it did I'd be drowned by now. A reversing camera would be an aid, not a substitue for my eyes.

I say, get one off eBay, get your local car audio specialist to fit it and be done!

No one here can really recommend a particular camera by the looks of it so I say, go with something that is HD, 720p 1080p or has lots of reviews?!

Yep, I'll order one in the next couple of days. I'm going to go for the smaller screen 4-5" rather than 7" That means it'll be easier to find a place for it. I'll probably fit it myself as I quite enjoy jobs like that. I've decided against a wireless one, don't know why but I feel more confident with it hard wired.

The only concern is the size and look of the camera. Some look a bit bulky but others look like they could be hidden at the top of the licence plate, and the fiiting is long and fairly thin.

Anyone who has one already fitted can recommend by way of saying go for this or that that's the idea of forums. Mike

Camera arrived today. I'll try to get it fitted over the weekend. To be honest it was worth getting it just for the amusement of the Chinese/English translation!

Hi Phil. Which one did you buy? Mike

Hi Mike,

This is the one I bought, cheap and Chinese but works surprisingly well. I wanted a basic one and as small as possible. The camera fits perfectly between the number plate lights and is hardly noticable. I fitted it this morning, it took 4 hours but that was due to rubbish instructions and trying to find a way through to to rear from the cabin. Its at a time like that that you realise just how well put together these cars are. If I did it again I could do it in about 2 hours. I'll take some photos over the weekend. Now I just want to keep going backwards until the novelty wears off!

That looks ok for the price.

I fancy one for hooking the caravan up.

Go for it, its not a lot of money. I've got mine wired to the reverse lights so it comes on when reverse is selected along with the parking sensors. The monitor is just small enough to sit in the corner of the dash (near the tax disc) so it doesn't create a blind spot, another reason for not getting the 7" monitor.

I was thinking of either having 7" that fits over the rear view mirror or same size that would fit to the sun visor so when not needed it just disappears by folding up the visor. Mike

Just a PS to this. Because the reversing lights on the LS are close to the number plate it would have been a waste of money buying a camera with LED's. I went out this evening (and I confess, to get some chocolate) and even in the dark it's fine. In fact, I would say it's a real safety aid. Where I reversed out it's very dark, but the woman who walked past the car was very clearly seen. So far, so good!

I understand that, but I'll get a couple of photos and you can see it's really not in the way, and plenty big enough.
