Need Urgent Advice On Roof Rack For Ls400

Going on a 400+ mile journey on Friday,and due to extra passengers will need to install a roof-rack- can It be done on an LS? (Looks to be minimal anchor-points-doors flush-fitting etc) appreciate any advice from anyone here,who has one,or has fitted one.

I had an OEM Lexus roofrack some years ago,never used it so sold it to some LS400 owner in Sweden.

Stymied now-company has stopped making them-not enough demand, I didn't fancy restricting my cruise-speed with a roof-rack anyway......

Typical! To be honest, I reckon you would have hated having a roof rack on such a quite car. Plus your fuel consumption would have gone through that heavily laden roof! Plenty of bikes on eBay for your extra passengers, maybe a monocycle for a bit of class?

This was a bit weird (well I thought it was)

Just out of interest I asked St Google to show me some images of LS400's with roof racks to see if there were many. I didn't see any but I did see my own car and another members amongst the images

How does that work then?

Maybe too late for Friday, but I used to have a boot rack in my taxi days, to make up for the loss of boot space due to lpg tank.

I also used it on a MGB roadster for holiday luggage.

It was alloy framed with wooden slats, and adjustable clamps that gripped the side edges of the boot lid.

Not as capacious as a roof rack, but better than nowt.

Not sure if they are still about though, will take a gander on eBay later.

I remember they used to be on Morris 1000's and the likes of the old pre-war MGs and Triumph sports cars

That's right Malc, they were pretty popular, and still available new it seems.

Put boot luggage rack in eBay search, and there are plenty to choose from, new or S/H.

Once you post anything on the internet its your picture or whatever else it is you have published will go free range and end up on Google many other places which is why every one should be very careful what you publish on the net. Many people are now finding out that what they published is now coming back to bite them on the backside. Mike
