Hi the orange engine light that looks like an engine along with the battery light. I was in the first slow lane on the motor way to I stopped as soon as I could on the hard shoulder. Turned on the hazard lights, tried restarting and when it failed , called AA as I didn't want to experiment with it my self in the dark.

The local garage had a look and it certainly is seized. Looks like I am getting a replacement engine now. Don't know if it will feel the same ever again.

That's strange.

I would have expected lack of oil or engine overheating for it to seize and neither of these occurred.

Can a serious build up of carbon around pistons / rings or and valves cause an engine to seize up?

As I understand it, the carbon doesn't build up around the pistons, only the valves, and this wouldn't cause an engine to seize

Yeah something is fishy about what happened. The IS250 is as you thought a very reliable motor and would like to have said you were very wise switching from the 220d. Very interested to see the outcome but equally sorry to hear your story of course.

John at the meet had his turbo blow on his Honda Accord diesel from going into the wrong gear and insurance paid out. is this a option?

Have you had any dialogue with the dealership that you purchased the car from. Providing that oil/water etc were all ok then they would probably be liable to repair/refund under Sale of Goods Act. If it isn't negligence on your part then they are liable for 6 months from date of purchase unless they can prove that no fault existed at the time they sold it to you........unless you have covered mega mileage since purchase.
