I notice that this Birmingham company always seem to have LS's for sale on eBay. They have no less than five up for grabs at the moment. They have good feedback, and have used the same name for nearly eight years. They tend to describe their cars quite thoroughly as opposed to some that find it difficult to string more than two sentences together. My query is of course, has anybody here ever purchased a car from them?. Any problems etc?. Thanks.

I notice that most photo's are taken in a residential area as opposed to a commercial premises. Some descriptions state that the vehicles are kept in a security compound and can only be viewed by appointment only. Not necessarily something to be concerned about, but a bit unusual.

Maybe they are Ls 400 breakers too, no bad thing with that sort of specialism ................ and selling the best of what they have.

They might be good value too, but only feedback will tell us that............ maybe you will some time soon ???? :outforcount:

I am hoping for redundancy in the next couple of months, which will enable me to get back in the LS saddle again. Trouble is any car I come across that I like the look of is always the other end of the country!. One disadvantage of living in the deep south east. If HMA still have a selection of cars when I get my money,it would be nice to have a choice of a few different cars to look at all in the same place.

I've owned a couple of Rover 75s (petrol not diesel) and there is a great forum to glean info from.Diesel is chain driven so no belts to worry about.Manual clutch replacement can cost around £1K-buy an auto. There are 2 versions-114bhp and 131bhp.Choose carefully as the lower bhp is under powered. Can be upgraded with 'magic box' to around 160bhp. Some very high spec cars (Connoisseur and Contemporary models) with sat nav, cruise etc.Choose carefully -lot of car for little money.Well screwed together and loads of parts available.

But not a Lexus as you can appreciate.

The one I was thinking of was an '03 Connoisseur 131bhp in firefrost red with autobox for £1650. As you say,a lot of car for the money. I joined the forum which I found very good. It would have made more sense from the economy point of view, but there is something about an LS which makes me come back.

Yes that'll be the detuned ford mustang 4.6 litre engine producing 260bhp-again known to be tuneable up to 400bhp.

With the Rover diesel they are known to take a long time to warm the interior in winter and with all models the ECU is situated behind the engine in the plenums which need regular checking as they can retain rainwater and flood the ECU.

Anyway enough of the Rover stuff. Buy a good one and it will last.

I like my Lexus.

I need help!. I was seriously considering looking at a Rover 75 tourer with the BMW diesel engine. Probably a very good car - but not a Lexus.

Yes you need help............................. psychological help if you were going to choose a rover over a Lex-eye

Who do you think you are ???? Alan "Ccok-Psis" Partridge !!!!! :P

(all in good humour !!!)

Hmmm..... let me see, Rover 75 or Lexus LS 400? Don't get me wrong, I once owned a Rover Sterling (Honda 2.7 engine/autobox). I enjoyed driving that car a lot but, nothing I've ever driven compares to the Lexy. It really is a no brainer. If I chose a Rover over a Lexus I would expect the men in white coats to cart me off!

'thatfatbloke' has a point though. I find the Rover75 more practical:

ie the back seats fold (estates are available too), overall they're that bit smaller, thus more parking spots, more common, thus probably easier for spares and repairs, much cheaper on fuel consumption, and with a more beautiful cabin than an LS400, yet supposedly similarly plush to drive and looks Jaguar-like good.

Quite a long list of positives. In the end though, I chose a more luxurious car!

However, I'll always wonder what I'm missing: would be interesting to drive both back to back...

What year and how much are you looking at spending ?

I will probably be looking for a late MK3,so around '97. Should be able to get something 'nice' for around £1500 I would think.May be prepared to pay a little more for the right car,but it would have to be a minter (if there is such a thing). I haven't even been offered redundancy as yet but I think it's coming,so I've started looking early to 'test the water'.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got my LS400 from Hunter Mackenzie in January.

He is a really nice bloke very helpful and genuine but you gotta remember he is also a second hand car salesmen lol! so they will do or say anything if they are going to get a sale from you!!

He keeps some cars in a lock up and some at his house and neighbors drives all pictures are taken from outside his house. he is mainly a small commercial vehicle dealer and Merc saloons but has moved over to sell the Lex as he said you get more for ya money with Lex.

He was a pleasure to deal with and there hasn't been any real shocks with the car I knew there would be a few bits to sort due to the price I paid for the car.

BUT I don't believe it should've passed the mot it had in November with some of the parts that I have now needed to replace (in my opinion)

I wouldn't hesitate driving from London to Birmingham to check or buy another car from this guy!

Russ!
