One of my CD drives doesn;t work in windows explorer under XP.

The drive works fine in Nero (reads and writes), so the hardware is OK - put a disk in it in any other appplication (including explorer) and it doesn't spin up or read the disk - windoze thinks the drive is empty.

ANy ideas anyone??

Maybe worth checking one of these:

Like Colin says, DirectCD or some CD-Daemon packages can cause this too...

Have you got any dodgy ASPI layers or anything like that installed??

Thanks for the ideas guys.

There's nothing running that is taking control of the drives (if fact there's nothing running at all) - like I said, Nero runs fine.

XP sees the drive, it is ready and operational - just won't read a disc - won't even spin up (except in Nero)

There's are no UDF drives loaded

It's very wierd!!!

Uninstall Nero and see if that fixes it. Nero adds drivers that can cause problems. Also make sure you have the latest patches for Nero - they seem to come out quite often.

It works in Nero - it's the other stuff that doesn't

Got a feeling in my bones it may be something to do with NFS Underground

Rodders

who makes the drive your are using and what model.

NFS underground works fine with me but on the off chance it could be the game.

Paul

It's Sony 52X drive Paul.

Seems to have started working since I installed the NFSU game patch - so I think that was the cause
