  1. If you have sufficient space, a proper 5.1 system with front, rear and centre speakers with a subwoofer will wipe the floor with the systems you are considering. Needn't be expensive either. By trawling eBay I found a NOS Onkyo 5.1 amplifier, a pair of Yamaha floor standing speakers, a Kef centre speaker, a Kef subwoofer and a pair of Gale rear bookshelf speakers. Amplifier was new, but speakers were used. Total expenditure was £600ish. I'm a bit of a hifi geek so I knew what I was doing, but just a little research will get you by. The compact Bose and Sony systems have high WAF (wife acceptance factor), but extremely poor sound quality compared to what I've suggested. It's little known that BOSE is an acronym for "Buy Other Sound Equipment" Willing to help if you wish Cracksta.

  3. Okay further research seems to suggest that I don't have tyre valve sensors, it simply monitors the circumference of the wheel so shoudn't be an issue

  5. I must be a bit of a gambler! No warranty for me! I put £50/month into a separate account that I can raid if the worst happens. As opposed to an old Mercedes SL500 I had. I had a warranty with Warranty Direct and probably paid about £1000 in 3 yrs into the plan. I must have had at least 7-8x that back. Great car, but monumentally complicated and unreliable! I'm probably blacklisted from WD for life!

  6. The OP IJP was asking about the 2014 update. Any 2016 update is minor and I understand only in USA. I was recently in Lexus UK distributor talking about replacing my 2014 in 2017 just before the DVLA tax changes will come into effect and was told there has been no announcement of any updates planned in UK. They would expect on usual cycles that an update might be reasonable to expect in 2017 but it might not be to that timescale. Sideline monitoring is therefore all one can do. I'm pretty happy about most things except I wish the USB was inside the console so all wires not visible.

  7. Ian, gutted for you but an IS200 itch never goes away. Having had my own IS200 Sport over 10 years ago, giving it up for a company car, (which I have just lost), I had to have another one. Collect my "new" 51 plate IS200 Sport on Monday. Its in better condition and less miles that the one I sold 10 years ago. Can't wait. Cost less than the half term holiday we just booked too. Half term holidays come and go but Lexus is for ever ??

  8. I have to backtrack on what I said. Yes, staying in 6th and around 1300rpm gives you ridiculously good mpg (best I got was 65mpg average on 180 mile journey). but after doing only two journeys like that, each 180 miles, my dpf clogged up ( P2002 code) Car went into limp mode, couldnt do much with it. I did eventually fix it up the next day - drove at 3.5k rpm at 50 mph for good 20 mins, it was a nightmare. Barely drove 2 mins after starting the engine, and it would go into limp mode again. Then had to pull up on the hard shoulder, restart the car - had another 2 mins "allowance". After about 10 pull ups, the car eventually stopped going into limp mode, so I could properly thrash it. Averaged 21 mpg on a 40 mile motorway journey! After half an hour, and about 100 ****** off drivers who now have to clean their cars from my exhaust smoke (😂), the DPF was clean enough and the car drives properly again. Seems to have more power too actually. So as you say, the conclusion is, you can get the good fuel economy by driving the 60mph in 6th, get 65mpg, but always remember to then drive at 75 mph in 5th, so the DPF gets cleaned up, you'll get around 48 mpg on that trip, but when you average it all out, its still a respectable 56.5 mpg average at 67.5mph average if you alternate between the driving styles.

  9. If you are referring to the 2014 facelift it contained quite a few things. I bought a Premier in March 2014 and amongst the changes Front end changed majorly with spindle grill introduced lots of stiffening to the body shell which allowed suspension adjustments to soften the ride a spare wheel replaced the spray gunk get you home kit The aerial was changed from stick to shark fin modest redesigns around back end A gps clock - though I have never found it do anything better than a routine clock - still have to change it for DST and crossing time zones They remapped the hybrid drive to give a more linear acceleration and managed to trim the emissions further the central display which could fold away was made permanently open. additional sound deadening the trim range was changed eg the grey leather was dropped leaving only black or ivory as options optional dash inserts were made available replacing the standard - ie bamboo and I believe the drive selector was slightly modified. all these refer to uk spec and it's not exhaustive if you google there are a number of place that recite the various evolutions-the telegraph's honest John is one such

  10. You can use the aux socket in the armrest along with a 3.5mm cable. However that means you can only change the music via the handset. The iVIC-i5 mirrors the apps on the cars display so don't have to use your phone. The phone has to be plugged into the device though but it does mean that it gets charged at the same time.

  11. I drive the wife's nearly new 1.4 turbo Golf (petrol). It goes well but you know it's a four pot - not a particularly nice sound at all. Always glad to be back in the IS200

  12. Good girl! I know I'm alone in my household in appreciating the six cylinder sound. I never tire of it. It's such a shock when I drive four pots for work, sometimes they are even, diesels... shudder. My daughter (considerably older than yours) likes to sit in the front because she likes the heated seat, but my son complains he can't fit his massive feet under the front seats if he sits in the back. Kids!

  13. I agree, the turning circle is not good! Whereas the turning circle on the LS is just amazing. I must say the 250 miles drive back home on Friday was a pleasure......until I hit the M25 at 4.30! Even so, 5.5 hours from Pontefract to the Sussex coast was pretty good for a Friday.

  14. Ian, I look forward to hearing about the replacement. Last year, I bought an E39 530 Sport (2003 5 series BMW). It was the much sought after Champagne edition. I had wanted one for ages. I had it 3 months during which time all it did was go wrong and the drive was not quite as I had imagined. God I'm glad I didn't get rid of the Lexus. BWM now sold and back in the IS200. Which doesn't go wrong.
