  1. Had the old girl for nearly three years and 32,000 miles and apart from fuel and 3 services she hasn't cost me a penny until now . Went out yesterday morning to pick up the papers at the newsagent turned the key only to get the dreaded clicking noise and it appears the starter has packed up after 22 years...absolutely shocking state of affairs and Lexus should be ashamed of themselves !!! anyway, new one being fitted on Tuesday for £475 which is apparently a swine of a job requiring removal of the cylinder head to get access. All things considered I don't think I've much to complain about as she once again passed her annual MOT in August without a single advisory in fact she hasn't had any in the 3 years I've had her which is more than I can say for the rest of my cars including a 3 year old Porsche Cayenne!! The crazy thing is the wife said to me yesterday instead of spending money on the "hearse" why not trade it in for something better and that after me having just forked out £800 on a service and repairs to her 4 year old Suzuki Swift!!! .... think I might sleep in the spare room from now on

  2. A running topic which I will use (Internet connection depending) to update you all with pics, videos and so on from my trip. 1st proper video from the Ring. 3rd lap of weekend. Had 3 passengers and the lap was ruined by a See You Next Tuesday who decided to brake test me and weave all over the track. The Conti 6's had begun to overheat a little by this point so traction control was on for this lap in case they went a bit pear shaped. Please ignore my language :-(

  4. Great stuff, looks and sounds right at home on the track, looks like it plays to the ISF strengths very nicely. Looking forward to the full write up.

  5. I replaced the main beam headlights on my 2006 RX 350 with HID conversions from Autobulbs Direct (cost about £95). The main beam were not very good before but the improvement with the conversion has been very substantial. The only downside is the short delay while the bulbs warm up before the full brightness develops (not after dipping) but this has not been a problem in practice. I also replaced the reversing lamps (appalling in standard form) with high intensity LEDs and removed the reflective shields which tend to focus the light form the reversing lamp upwards away from the road which is not helpful. Again the difference was substantial and I can now see to reverse without having to use the brake lights or flashers as well. I had to try a few different bulbs before I got good results from Star Canbus error free Ultra bright 7.5W LED (800 lumens) SMD 2835 from eBay. These are not available now but there are several alternatives listed. Check dimension to make sure they will fit as they tend to be a bit longer tan the original filament bulbs.

  6. Well here she is in all her splendour. Paint cut back and polished by me while the leather was cleaned and fed by my lovely wife. I she she looks pretty good for a 14 year old with 150,000 miles on her. (not the wife, the car.)

  10. So long as you have a test drive, you can judge the ride quality for yourself. As regards the other things you need to look out for: erm.... there's the boredom of waiting for something to go wrong, there's the sport model which has exactly the same performance as the base model, there's the sat nav which never is to anyones liking in that it takes an age to update to 3 year old data and is easily outperformed by stand alone Tomtoms, Garmins etc. There's hours of happy confusion caused by your own telephone and its interactivity with the car. There's the nasty pedestrians and road workers who make such a noise that you wont fully appreciate how good the standard sound system is.Oh yes... the other problem is that the engine and gearbox are so quiet you start to hear creaks and groans from your own self and mistake them for a fault with the car.

  14. Rattle, banging or other noise from rear of car when in motion, may be related to exhaust heat reflector. Mine was!!! Check that exhaust reflector is secure and not dropping onto top of exhaust

  16. I had put these on my Honda Legend when the Xenon bulb driver side was flickering http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Philips-Xenon-X-treme-Vision-D2S-Xenon-HID-Car-Headlight-Bulb-Single-Lamp-/262090277719?hash=item3d05cc4357:g:uJoAAOSwA4dWH62V They were brilliant performers, I personally always go Philips when I need to install headlight bulbs. :) I had managed to get a pair for £65 back in May,

  18. I expect and dont mind paying over the odds to acquire a car like that. They are rare cars and it is for that reason I dont mind paying extra. Its just my personal feeling.
