  1. I think modern oils are really aimed at modern engines, especially where you have turbos spinning at high speeds. Semi-synthetic fne for LS, (unless you want to drive every where in 1st, and keep the revs as high as possible). Fully synthetics are designed not to break the oil (chains of atoms) at 7000rpm and above for sustained periods. Mineral oils cannot sustain this kind of abuse for long. My LS (202,000miles), uses next to no oil between 10k services, and where I have topped it up, usually less than 0.5 litre just used 10-40W (which is what I use on my wifes X-type - which eats oil for a living - only done 130,000). I have never observed what 'smoke' comes out of exhaust on cold start, though I do check from time to time for water (only because I ignored water on my Omega - which was gasket going. I was being stupid and thought coolant needed replacing as I had a leaky hose, where as it runs out the car was p*ssing water out the back). Still if the Omega had not blown, I may never have got to own a LS 13 years ago. I must confess I have never asked what my garage uses for services, other than I know it is not fully synthetic.

  2. Apologies for 12oz to the pound, I should never post so late at night.

  4. I have a 2014 model and unable to get the system to allow me to show received SMS too. As many point out, the synching, comms and DAB tuning etc for Lexus is just poor.. to me it's just about the only issue I have with my car. Re SMS again, having had this setup on a non Lexus car previously, I personally felt it was an unnecessary and dangerous distraction so I haven't pursued investigating this further. I can still sync on Bluetooth to make/receive calls and to date this has failed (in operation) just the once in last 12m so I'm personally content with that. Your local dealership may be able to advise if you still want SMS displayed.

  5. Turned out it was on eBay as well, ending yesterday PM, and unfortunately the time I could have gone for a quick viewing didn't work out with the seller. Auction ended at £1300, I shall send him a message and find out whether the sale looks to be going through. I'd rather sell one or two of my other cars first than buy something and not be able to get shot of them.

  6. I have a feeling it’s a problem with the mirror motor itself / memory module. It’s a common problem on early 2IS models (2005-2007). Moving the mirror electrically or manually in all extremes used to temporarily fix it but ultimately new parts are require to fix this issue if it is the same problem.

  9. My £9.95 ebay China special arrived a couple of days ago so have just had the car in my workshop, got it up on my lift and replaced the sensor. I am pleased to report that it is all working again as it should. I had to drill the screws out of the old sensor to separate the metalwork from the plastic to use on the new sensor but the cover screws from the back of the old sensor made great replacements for these! Decided to clean and paint the brackets etc while I had the sensor stripped down. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

  10. I specifically had experience (.. short.. you can find below) with ES F-sport + Takumi Pack... I cannot imagine it could be worse then that.. Cheap plastic all over... it is awful. I understand that ES Takumi non f-sport are little bit more decent with at least some material instead of plastic. Otherwise, IS Takumi is another option... I really don't understand why anyone would want to buy Toyota ES F-sport +takumi pack for £40k+... wait... did I say Toyota... yes actually that is about right. It is not worthy to have Lexus badge.
