  1. A lot more than you would think. 90 miles north to south including 2 ferry crossings, pretty good going in 5 minutes eh! I was actually thinking of all you poor souls living/existing down South.
  2. Off topic (which I was not the first to mention). Everything mentioned about smoking so far concerns STATISTICAL EVIDENCE, not SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE which I clearly stated. There is a difference, but there I am just ignorant and know nothing obviously as pointed out by some who cannot read what was written. Cannot remember mentioning anybodies rights either, but I do support non-smokers right to congregate in a non-smoking establishment and vice versa. Statistically most accidents are caused by people who are not smoking at the time, so it might be safer if everyone was made to smoke while driving.
  3. In the list of POI's I could not find anything for Police Station. I thought it would be usefull if they were listed together with their phone number. When driving you sometimes see something illegal or dangerous happening which does not warrant a 999 call. Thought it would be handy if the local Police Station phone number was available so you could report what you've seen. Directions to the Police Station would also help. Maybe it is there and I just could not find it? :duh:
  4. Firstly, my point was that this discussion started out as being about using handheld mobile phones while driving. It was not about all the potentially dangerous things some people get up to whilst driving, including their driving attitude. There is no scientific evidence that passive smoking causes cancer. Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't. The fact is it is not proven. Because the majority of people believe it does not make it fact. If this was the case then the world would be flat. If non-smokers do not wish to mix with smokers, then why did we not see thousands of bars, restaurants etc. open to non-smokers only? If the demand was already there the rule of supply and demand would have guaranteed their existance without the need for new laws to be introduced surely. Just my two pennies worth. :shutit:
  5. The subject of this forum was about using handheld phones while driving. The reason they were banned was due to the number of acidents caused and people injured or killed by a driver using a handheld while driving. So why bring Smoking into the equasion? There is already more than enough bull printed about smoking and its effects on everyone. :duh:
  6. Seems it's two to one against so far, this waiting for the price to drop sounds sensible. Although I'm not sure if I can wait for Sky reduce their price ready for the Christmas rush. I've just bought a HD ready Plasma TV and it looks great, so wondered how much better HD would look. Anyone who has had Sky HD for a while care to comment? Many thanks oldun :eerrrmm:
  7. I'm thinking of getting Sky HD, but have certain reservations. I did not mind the £299 charge for the box, but asking £60 for some guy to unplug my Sky+ box and plug in the Sky HD box seemed like pure greed. Unfortuneatly there is no option as Sky have a monopoly in all areas not covered by optic fibre feeds. There is also a limited number of channels with HD. so what do people who have Sky HD think of it? Is it really that good, or do you wonder why you bothered once the novelty has worn off? Look forward to hearing from Sky HD owners as your responses will help me decide whether or not to swell Sky's coffers even more. oldun :mat:
  8. Name and shame them here: MOST USELESS COMPANY (Forgive me for hijacking your post Big Fella!) Sorry Mr Morse, providing the TV arrives by the end of the week I will not name them. They made a mistake and acknowledged it. It is up to the company to repremand their errant staff members, and as they compensated me I am happy to leave it at that.
  9. Blimey, are they bringing it on the back of a pony Sorry couldn't resist! What's the problem there then? I'd have cancelled and gone elsewhere by now, that's taking the *****! Two Emails totally ignored, three phone calls to two couldn't care less lying members of staff to hear lots of false promises. Then I got to speak to someone who knew what she was doing, did everything she said she would and gave me a nice discount for my troubles. Hopefully it will arive in time for the next Football World Cup Final :D
  10. Then there has been a mis-understanding on my part and I appologise Your comments are always welcome on LOC, it's the members that make this place work. :D I realise my choice of the word "nonesense" was very poor. What I should have said/ment to say was pointless information (probabley got that wrong as well). Seeing another Lexus parked and speaking to the driver about club membership and Lexus in general is both usefull and productive. Seeing another IS250 flash past at a closing speed of 120mph, then finding out it was another club member is niether here nor there. A wave of the hand to acknowledge the driver is friendly and welcome (when I rode a motorbike in my younger days, everyone waved and stopped if he thought rider needed help as there was a great feeling of brotherhood amongst riders) and I hope such a brotherhood of members and non members exists for all Lexus drivers. Your appology is accepted Scarface, and I'm just sorry my stupid choice of words led to this. OK, it's raining and my new Plasma TV which should have arrived over a month ago still hasn't arrived so am pretty pi***d of at the moment.
  11. Without being rude, but getting to the point. You will know for next time, the "Was it you?" Forum contains just this bit of .... as you refer 'nonsense'. You will remember next time to simply not read the thread, nevermind waste your time by posting ;) Thanks to Lee Iceman and Aida, your replies made sense of what I thought was nonesense. Unlike Scarface who I thought was extremely rude in telling me what forums I should read. Sorry for wasting more of my time :duh:
  12. I hope we are not going to see these forums filled with this nonsense. Everytime someone sees another IS250 they ask "was it you in so and so at such and such a time?" Either nobody answers, or someone says "yes it was me". What use that piece of information is to the questioner baffles me. :duh:
  13. I agree, as mentioned in an earlier post the reception in marginal areas is much poorer. :duh:
  14. On page 145 of the IS250SE-L owners manual is listed the "Hill-start assist control (vehicles with an automatic transmission) Prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting on an incline or slippery slope. This is obviously something more than just the natural drag of the torque converter. Maybe your Service manager needs to read up on the IS250's features. :duh:
  15. A TV tuner, like I had in my old IS200, ideal for keeping everyone amused when in traffic jams etc.
  16. What I would really like to see is an option of choosing which DVD you want for the Sat Nav system. Either the whole of Europe as supplied or one just covering the UK in far greater detail. I and I'm sure others never do and have no intention of taking the Lexus abroad. Even if a trip abroad was planned the Lexus could rent you a suitable DVD for the duration of the trip.
  17. There was a bottle of touch up paint in my IS250 SE-L when I picked it up. It was coloured black wich surprised me as the car is coloured Argento Ice. Had I noticed this while at the dealers I would have changed it, but unfortuneately I was back home before discovering this useless gift. :duh:
  18. Only if you Look at the bloody screen, My touch screen has a camera on it.See my previous Project Why did you fit the reversing camera? :duh:
  19. You mean the trailer is so small it is not visible in all three mirrors? Suggest you either put the trailer in the boot or tie a short pole to it with a red flag visible in the mirror. I am assuming that you do actually look in your mirrors before reversing. What about the laws regarding speed when towing a trailer if you drive having forgotten you attached the trailer 5 minutes ago. Parallel parking must be a fun experience for you
  20. I think engine braking can be used when at the top of a steep hill. First brake to a suitable speed for the descent then engage a gear which will allow the engine to assist in retarding the cars speed, using the brake as required to prevent over-reving. Engine braking should not be used instead of the brakes i.e. approaching a sharp bent in sixth gear then changing down to say second gear to slow down is asking for trouble and potentially very expensive. The brakes do what they say they do, they slow the car down. Engine braking helps prevent the car speeding up.
  21. Sorry to mess everyone about, but hopefully I've managed to get a couple of pictures of the offending thingy in my boot http://img196.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p...003small2gc.jpg
  22. In the boot of my IS250 next to the spare wheel there is a blue and black thing with a cable attached. Is this something to do with the vehicle diagnostics or some other fiendish contraption? Anyone know
  23. I have not seen one yet, but have ordered the TH-42PX600CAB and the DMR-EX85 recorder, just hope they live up to expectations. The Pioneer was not really an option as there are no dealers locally should any repairs be required. Will let you know how I get on when they finally arrive, bearing in mind I only have a Sony 32 inch CRT TV to compare the picture and sound quality. Next thing is to order a Sky HD box, has anyone got one? If so is it worth the extra money, or should I wait for more programmes to be broadcast in HD. Freeview is not yet available in my neck of the woods so it is just Sky for me. oldun :)
  24. Same here, just the seat belts. I would be interested in the Sat Nav update although the coverage is vast lots of detail is missing outside towns and cities.
  25. You've made my day, I got an "A" for the first time. I can't imagine what people living in the "Refer" areas must be paying for their insurance, probably be cheaper to move house to an "A" area. The savings would pay the extra mortgage probably. :duh:
