  1. Follow the instructions on the use of the existing balls on the car and buy some of the cheap circa £20 struts on ebay you will need a dremel with disc cutter and nothing else ,the tips are in the archives.
  2. Why would one go to that trouble of drilling holes in the" Ram " when you can replace them for £20.
  3. Because they are a rip off that is built in, all gas struts fail eventually whoever makes them because the gas will escape over time as it is impossible to make a seal on a moving part that holds gas. The replacements I bought from china are working after three years and at £20 a pair I can replace economically ,so for something you only see when the bonnets up who would buy from Lexus or any one else at inflated prices.
  4. You may have to live with this glass as the replacement quote from amayama is nearly $600 + duties shipping etc. The parts breakdown shows the seal as part of the product and not obtainable as a separate item so it might not be a good idea paying out good money for a seal that does not fit.
  5. Procedure that relates to the non vvt-i engine, removed the nut above the water pump at the top of the engine but the 430 engine does not have this nut. I suspect you may have to open the drain cocks on the engine and run coolant through the system until all the air is out and the reservoir is constantly topped up until it is at its correct level, then close the drain cocks. This will have to be done whilst the engine is ticking over.
  6. I can remember on my Mark 1 The kickdown would not operate until the transmission fluid was warm and at that time we had some pretty harsh winters so I had to let the engine warm up so the gears changed promptly before I set out on my journey.
  7. Paul frost as a 460/600 sunroof for sale which according to his listing on Ebay fits the 600 .
  8. Liverpool Victoria hassled me for years to get my car insurance so this year I gave them a chance to quote they promptly refused as it was too old I called them a few choice names and told them never to darken my door again.
  9. There are members on this forum who can fix the types of issues you describe on their own cars but not many who will risk messing with other peoples cars and not even for payment most of our advice is handed out for free and there is plenty of info in the archives on most subjects including yours . If you do not feel you want to tackle the jobs yourself it might be better if you find an independant garage that as a specialist Lexus technician.
  10. Do you want to fix these issues yourself or someone who is able to assist you or even fix them?
  11. Sorry I have got that wrong the switches are all individually lit and the bulb part number for the heated seats and vsc is toyota 84999-10650
  12. The bulb listed for that use is probably the headlamp washer switch bulb the vsc switch and the seat heater switches are all one rear mounting and the bulb probably serves them all through a tunnel affect as there are no other bulbs shown or listed for the vsc and seat heater switches. Part number 84150E this bulb fits most toyota vehicles and can be bought from a toyota dealership part number 84999-10320. I have just bought a set of crush washers for my diff oil change from Toyota in Preston and the Parts Guy actually dropped them off at my door as he lived nearby.Lexus dealership did not have them as available. 13. These are the cuts I had to do through the retaining clip that holds the ball in place it is impossible to get these clips out with any tools .
  14. If I remember correctly the ball end on your existing struts will have to be cut across to release the fastening best to do this with the strut in a vice unscrew the fastening from the car first. Screw the ball end to the car and the new struts just clip on.
  15. Remove the satnav drive from the boot and put in your airing cupboard for a few days do not be to aggressive in drying this unit out.
  16. I Have 40 years background in the construction industry and a good part of it was in the scaffolding industry started as a labourer and worked my way up to a contracts manager for one of the then big six nationals there were no one man bands working from the back of a wagon in the sixties when I started and the big six monopolised the industry and everyone who worked for them was cards in. I had just been promoted to a supervisor coming off the tools as the HSE came into being and most of the staff in the HSE were academics with no practical experience and were using a bible they had concocted with regards to our industry from the codes of practice parts 1/2and 3 formulated by the NASC national association of scaffolding contractors 3 being the section that covered suspended working platforms such as cradles and the type of platform used under bridges . This was one part of the industry that I had worked in at places like Windscale and Seaton Carew power station up in Hartlepool as well as other massive building projects. Whilst I was up at Windscale( we would go for two days every couple of weeks) working on an extention to the ponds that were used for holding the flasks of used plutonium I had cause to see in the roof whilst erecting cradles pigeons with severe moulting issues. Bearing in mind this was 1970 and the only checks for radiation was a badge we handed in to be scanned at the end of a shift to gauge how much radiation we had been exposed too. I told my supervisor I was not going there again and was promptly taken off that team which was a elite high earning position .Two years ago those ponds are now classed as the highest level of radiation in the world and they are still trying to figure out a way of safely decommissioning them they have a 300 metre safety zone around them. I was in my early twenties then and having spent the previous two years working at heights of up to 300 feet without harness and the rest of the safety gear they have to use today grew a sixth sense of what was dangerous. Now the point of this ramble is I believe that since the introduction of the Health and safety at work act the initiative for a person to think for themselves as been eroded to the point that they cannot and expect some one else to think for them. I said earlier that when I became a supervisor it was about the time that the safety officers were visiting our branches and spieling about how they were going to clean up the scaffolding industry and when they had finished my Manager who had erected the scaffolding for the construction of the dish on the Jodrell bank telescope( a worlds first) remarked Well it is a good job you guys were not around when Adam was a lad, to which they retorted why?" Because we would still be living in caves",said my manager.
  17. I bought two bonnet struts off ebay three years ago and they were from china £25 the pair and they still work great. The technology in one of these items is not rocket science and the manufacturing of most worldwide are chinese companies.
  18. Everyone is their own safety officer and at the end of the day that decision is yours not your Manager's,keep safe.
  19. Had some strange happenings last week when we went to the supermarket on our early morning weekly shop.We live on a quiet road with an hairpin with full view of opposing traffic (there was none) at the top end so I thought I would have some fun on the ice that had formed overnight. As I drove into the corner I dabbed the throttle and the back end went for a walk the trac came into play and the beeper went off on one as well as the wife who also made some noises but not a nice as the beeper. A possible consequence of a first on this car is my entertainment and navigation refused to work from the touchscreen controls until I turned off the ignition and turned it back on again. It may be a glich or it could be the trac operating that as thrown the electronics a swerve ball but everything is fine again so we will never know unless it plays up again in the near future.
  20. Thanks for that will look into getting mine insured for agreed values next year, does it have to be with a classic car insurer?
  21. I would be interested to know what that valuation cost you in extra premium.
  22. Next to mine in condition but mine as done only 46k miles if that price is realistic I am making more than I paid for mine 8 years ago. Mine was a demonstrator for its first year then one owner for 13 years before I bought it so very alike histories.
  23. I have just entered my Reg and it states the vehicle does not comply with ULEZ and will invoke a £12.50 per day charge but wait I have some great news it is Lez compliant so misses that charge .But guess what I have not been able to get out of the house because of covid so thats is tne only good thing about this awful virus you don't get charged for owning a bit of comforting luxury.
  24. The petrol guzzling is not the criteria for the compliance it is the pollution that the boffins think a 4litre engine produces .The irony is that this engine meets the strictest parameters in the world as depicted by California back in the 1990s.and is less polluting than some engines half its size.
