  1. I have answered the question in the quote of your submission but for the camera I will do so again The slides are drying out and the rubber grips the glass like a vice ,apply silicone spray to the grooves as the window travels up and down and the problem will disappear.
  2. Changed the diff oil should be done at 30k but I was setting the stall out for a good result having been warned it is a pig of a job. Had to jack up the rear end to a good 15 inches to crawl into the location for removal of the plugs, laid her back down on stands and started with a socket and 10mm hex on a breaker bar and believe me I needed one. The oil that came out was not too black but there was a good amount of filings on the drain plug magnet. Then I used a vintage metal syringe to replace the oil and it took 10 visits as the diff takes 1.5 litres,I do not suggest anyone try doing this with the plastic tube that sticks out of the end of the containers the oil comes in, there is not enough headroom and you will get oil everywhere but in the filler hole. Having completed the task which took three hours I freshened up the Dinitroll on the subframe I applied ten years ago which as held up well.
  3. Read a few reviews on the model and some utube videos on front suspension replacement costs and it looks to be a very expensive car to replace these items, also there is a video by one guy" carwizard" utube which depicts the failure of the ECU to respond to reprogramming other than by a Lexus dealership at an very high cost . Lexus have an enviable reputation for quality build but mileage will wear anything down and then you pay for that reputation.
  4. Hi Hugh The mark 4s are rarely troubled with the pump leak that was common on the Mark 1 &2 the configuration of the pump and reservoir were redesigned to eliminate the cause of the leak which was the mating of the pump housing and reservoir. Check out the area around the bottom of the pump and the top of the alternator if this is dry there is no leak.
  5. setting up the remote locking on a 98 Lexus ls400 - Google Search.pdf
  6. Follow the instructions in your owners handbook for the locking sequences but before you do disconnect the battery on the car and leave for 15 minutes, reconnect but do not start the car ,start at the beginning of the set up sequence carefully logging on paper your every step so you do not duplicate or miss any steps .
  7. The circuits to the operating components are ok so the wiring is ok ,the switches that operate through wireless commands are not so it can be one of two things ,programming and ECU commands it may be the ECU but changing it will raise other issues as it is coded to the fob .The failure of these components is rare on this car so I think the answer to the problem is in the programming and is out of line somewhere.Start from scratch and re programme the set up from scratch .
  8. Correct parts for the 99 LS400 are front stabiliser bar bush 50111-48815. rear stabiliser bar bush 40060-48815R ,two bushes for each bar. according to Toydiy official Toyota parts catolog, they should cost around a tenner each from Lexus.
  9. Put in new drop links and new bushes on the anti- roll bar, these will contribute to wear on the shock bushings if they are worn .
  10. This sounds like a cell as gone in the battery ,not unusual in cold weather which tends to seek out weak cells if a couple of plates touch the battery is shorted and self drains ,if the acid in the battery is weak it can freeze and buckle the plates. If it is possible keep the battery on a maintenance charger which should help to prevent these type of spikes.
  11. Make sure the battery in the remote fob is good ( put in a new one) because operating does not make it good .Go through the set up procedures for remote locking they are in the archives first disconnect the battery and leave for ten minutes and reconnect, then start the set up procedure before you start stripping down the door ,the door wiring is on a loom that connects all the electrics in the door and is a bind to get at furthermore it is unlikely to be the wiring as the area is sealed in you are not dealing with ford build quality on a Lexus.
  12. A capacitor is basically a reservoir of power that enables a constant supply through surge and drain episodes it is also used for shunting components such as electric motors that are induction motors which need a power boost to start rotating. If a capacitor is failing symptoms that you are describing do occur but are not limited to a faulty capacitor.
  13. Why can't the CAR WIZARD fix this 2009 Lexus LS460_ - YouTube.pdfHi Guys I have decided to come clean on a fact I kept back when I gave the reasons for sticking with a LS400 back in 2012 when I parted company with my Mark I after sixteen years .At that time I had been informed by a very close Lexus associate that the days of working on our own cars were going to be limited to a time when we would have no option but to take them into a dealership but I was sworn to secrecy and I did not want to break a confidence that had been given to enable me to make a very important decision. I am putting in a link from the USA that explains my admission and you can draw your own conclusions as to what it means for all of us and not just Lexus owners.
  14. Yes Steve I have visited those Japanese import sites in fact I have one that regularly informs me of new stock and as you say the examples are spotless every part of the car .The stock of good Lexus LS are getting scarce here in the UK but if a good search is put in they are available from Japan at a price. I am very fortunate that mine is spotless but I learned a lot from my first LS and put all the rust protection on mine when I first got it at 19k miles and it as never been out in salt.
  15. The amplifier may be uniform to other Toyota models worth doing some research and trawling the breakers yards.
  16. I used Churchill for 10 years without making a claim and getting a very tight rise each year but I was living in a remote part of Scotland I was on limited 5K mileage and was OK with that .Halfway through my last year I moved back to Lancashire and informed them of that ,they duly doubled my premium for the remaining six months citing the postcode reasons .I had a gun pointed at my head so had to accept it .The following renewal with direct line came in at what I had been paying in Scotland because this Postcode is a low crime area and there was no reason to up other than to rip the back out of my good nature. I used a lot of bad language but the operative did'nt give a *hit and Churchill lost a customer so now I just play them off against each other every year because to my mind they are all chancers and charletons.
  17. That video is very informative and a good indicator of the state of the world, you just cannot trust anybody .
  18. Fair comment Brian and I have to be honest it is a better looking car than the 400 but as the saying goes" Looks ar'nt everything."
  19. It is a sterling example but that is reflected in the price the mileage is low at 70k but the 460 has a bad reputation for expensive front end replacement arms of which there are four at something in the region of £350 each and a complete strip of the whole front end to replace. There are other considerations as well this car as had four owners and the original owner who put a private plate on it did'nt keep it long. There are at least two owners on this forum who have regretted buying one of these after owning both ls400's and LS430's. Most of the reviews of this model were a little downbeat and that is reflected in sales volume they never really took off. I advise a reasonably long test drive before buying one .
  20. I agree with your synopsis and to all intents and purposes designing lack of acceleration into a vehicle where it is required could be construed in law as a criminal act as it deprives the driver of a option that could prevent serious injury or even death to themselves or others. The law makers are going to be spending a lot of time on this one before they come up with legislation .
  21. Last three batteries on my Lexus 400s have been Yuasa and have been good up to four years present one as been on five.
