  1. Make sure your key fob battery is up to scratch.Turn everything off on the car and remove the battery terminals refit them negative first ,then open the drivers door by hand ,close the door and leave the car for a minute then press the locking button on the key once wait then press the unlock button ,get in the car and turn the ignition key to the start position the car should start.
  2. When I bought my Mark 1V nearly ten years ago it was mint with 20k on the clock, yes it was like new but it was already 13 years old and the first thing I realized, the importance of spare parts . I saw a complete nav and entertainment console on ebay for £60 being sold at that price because the guy did not have the code for the entertainment centre well you don't need a code if you know the switch dance routine because that gets you in to the system to reset it.That particular module at the time it could be replaced was £5K. Then I got two wing mirrors complete for just under £80 complete unit new £1200 each add to that a couple of coil packs for £20 and just recently a used combination meter for the bulbs and clocks for £40, £1800 new. They are all safely stowed away unused and may not be but one thing I have learned about these cars is the reliability makes people complacent to the point they think they run forever, believe me nothing does and when you don't need one they are worthless when you do they are worth their weight in gold especially when you cannot buy one.
  3. I think that part number refers to the smog sensor that sits on the front grill it shuts the vents from the outside of the car when there is heavy pollution in the air around the car .
  4. This is a complicated subject and will have several obstacles to your locksmith which coding is one and he will probably not have the ability .there are several post in the club archives on this subject check them out and review your options.
  5. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/875680-best-brand-of-fuse-to-use.html Very interesting post from club lexus and up to date.
  6. The wheels on the example are off a Mark 4 97-2000 with chromed caps the wheels could be optioned chromed but were mostly in the states as they did not like salt, the usual format was as mine are .
  7. I had the cambelt go on my Mark 1 caused by a siezed water pump and as Malc as said it is a non inteference engine.
  8. The points you have made in this excellent post are testament to why this model is one of the most sought after classics of the modern era of Asian cars .The pedigree is second to none and the history is unmatched by any other vehicle so you might well have bought yourself a keeper, the biggest concern of this model is rust in the chassis and wings if it reasonably clear of that then everything else is still obtainable but not on some parts new. It is'nt eating nowt as we say up north so hang on to it and make yourself some money because they are only going up in value.
  9. There are fundamental differences between dimmers used for conventional halogen and incandescent bulbs as against Led so if you use a plug-in dimmer that is designed for the former it will cause the led to flicker and not function correctly the LED stands for Light emiting diode and to all intents and purposes is basically a resistor that is made from a material that glows when current is passed through it this is at a certain frequency and is controlled by a driver that monitors the frequency a conventional bulb is also a form of resistor but is set within certain current flow parameters that produces heat . If you have used this type of dimmer it will not function on the leds and will probably destroy them.
  10. Malcolm If that is your prognosis then replacing it should be the next step because it will likely stick again at the most inappropriate time.
  11. These are the notorious upper control arms and to be honest you have done well if they have got to 156k with slight play usually go at around 100k so yours could be aftermarket replacements which last half the time of the oems if your lucky. Oems are expensive from Lexus at around £500 for a pair and fitting them is fairly easy for a good mech using a method devised by me and my Mech back in the early noughties now used by everyone who learned about it on this forum, its in the archives. They do not last long after play in them starts but depends on how much use the car is getting if it is less than a couple of thousand a year they will be ok but 10k will finish them in a year.
  12. Is something wrong with the tensioner, lift the belt from the tensioner and try to pull back the tensioner with your hand if you can do this and your not the incredible hulk it is the tensioner that is faulty.
  13. Firstly check the old belt and the new belt are the same circumference and width and the same number of grooves.Check the belt tensioner is the same as the old one and is installed correctly. The nut that you connect to to pull back on the pulley whilst placing the belt is a left hand thread make sure you have'nt slackened this nut.
  14. I don't think the actors in the series use their own vehicles they are usually loaned by a dealership for expose of the brand and classics are supplied for a fee by individuals and small companies who may own several of the same model. The media production companies insist on a back up vehicle in case of breakdowns as filming sequences is expensive.
  15. Lovely and probably a joy to ride in the back of it ,but I can't and my missus won't so a waste straight off the bat. The other points raised by members are all relevant and its a personal choice in the end, so not for me I have the best car ever made I do not wish to find that this one is not.
  16. There are the symptoms of a vacuum leak in the scenario you paint it might be a good idea to get the servo checked and its connections to the manifold of the engine.
  17. Another way to eliminate the chance of air in the system is to change out the brake fluid if you go round each wheel and take out old fluid until new fluid comes through it will express any air in the system whilst renewing the fluid. If the system as air in it when you are done the master cylinder could be one of the suspects but you may have a pipe leak or a pot in one of the calipers both of these faults will be evident with damp spots .
  18. Just make sure your battery is at full capacity before you go spending any money, this can cause the click if there is not enough amperage to work both the solenoid and the starter.
  19. Further investigation into this sale leads to exclusion of private individuals to buy . It seems because this vehicle is a cat"B" it as to show a certificate of destruction from a licensed recycle company, which without a load of hassle prohibits its purchase by Joe public . Copart will allow you to strip it at one of its sites of removable parts but there will be a charge and you won't be able to keep going back when you like it as to be in a short time window. When you have taken the parts you need they will issue a certificate of destruction. This practice is obviously aimed by the government to stop bad practice and dangerous vehicles re-entering the market but it puts the price up on spare parts to the detriment of enthusiasts who want to prolong their cars use and will ultimately shorten the life of them.
  20. There is a written off green 96 model with 85k on it the panels are bent at the front but it looks like it as been well looked after and the engine is very clean as is the interior. This is a good candidate for spares on a refit of worn out parts. Just type in ls400 in site search box and the only Ls 400 they have comes up.
  21. The Lexus dealership in Glasgow gifted me a litre of Toyota premixed red anti freeze back in 2012 when they fitted the timing belt ,I still have the stuff unused and it is still available on Ebay around £7 a litre. If that is what they were putting in then it must be good for the LS400 range today.
  22. You need to put in Toyota oem brand of anti-freeze ,nothing else.
