Hi James and welcome to the LOC. That was a good find with such low mileage. Similar story with me, Rover 213, 216 EFi, 820, 825 then to Lexus or in my case JDM Lexus badged as Toyotas. I owned a 1994 Celsior (LS400) for 16 years and presently own a 2004 Celsior (LS430).

Just looking at front brake pads for my 2004 Celsior which are the same as the LS430 so first checked on LPD who have them at £78.35 plus £6.95 shipping ( I thought LOC members got free shipping?). Next Amayama but they are coming through at £81.68 plus £35.17 shipping then add 20% VAT to the total. Given the more frequent “No Longer Available” and the increase in prices particularly shipping costs I wonder if Amayama was the place to go for cheaper OEM Lexus parts.

Hi Steve and welcome to the LOC. Let’s have some pictures please, we like pictures 😀 -
There is a slight drop, leave it overnight and then recheck, if there is a crack in the core it could open up more when the coolant is hot.

It does sound like one of the vent control actuators trying to change position but it’s got stuck mid position. Have you replaced your pollen filter recently? -
Shaun messaged me and I have replied, my money is on the radiator leaking engine coolant into the transmission.

Hello Kirsty and welcome to the LOC. Are these the parts your Son needs circled in the picture? If yes I can give you the part numbers from Lexus which will cost around £50.00 or a cheaper option would be to find a breaker ( eBay) and get the parts used. -
She has been going on about it for years Len along with “bingo wings” and a “tummy tuck” It’s when I tell her you can’t improve on perfection like a Lexus that she hits me!

My wife would be happy with just the facelift 😀

If you mean just the bumper cover see link below but bear in mind there are 4 different part numbers for the sport models and sonar system. This is also supplied un-painted so you need to factor that in as well, same for the mountings if any are damaged. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-is-phase-2-sel-front-bumper/

You need a battery “Insulator” Malc, the battery will last twice as long and you will see a 30% increase in MPG 😀 Also nice to see the battery terminal covers are still fitted which often disappear. OK on a more serious note remember to ensure you order the correct terminal layout when ordering a replacement battery

Found this on a local FB page 😀 “So my car needs to pass an MOT to make sure it’s safe to drive on roads that aren’t safe to drive on ?”

1999 LS400 check engine error codes in display
steve2006 replied to G.O.'s topic in Engine & Transmission
Resistors? It’s normally the capacitors which cause the ECU problems. -
Arr the smell from the Feu Orange gently swaying on its string looped over the choke knob, the blue furry dice hanging from the interior mirror and finally that green sun strip with Steve on the driver’s side and that of my present girlfriend on the other side, the latter being changed on a near weekly basis. The 1970s pitted with British Leyland and the joy of breakdowns 😀
-
My days lying under the car are also now finished, getting under is still OK but getting out and back up on my feet is a major problem. It’s a bugger when the car is in better condition than its owner! I’m doing the same, engine oil and filter and a transmission drain and refill during the next MOT at my trusted garage. I must admit my finger nails have never been so clean 😀

Hello Juan and welcome to the LOC. As the check engine light comes on briefly there should be stored fault codes in the engine ECU which you can access and will hopefully help you diagnose the problem. The link below explains how to do this and includes a couple of video links showing how to do it. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html Once you have the codes please post them up so we can assist you further. Without further investigation it is very difficult to say what the cause is and buying random parts hoping for a fix is the most expensive way to go. However given your symptoms and the age of the car it could well be the engine ECU which are well known for leaking capacitors, take a look at the link below particularly the “symptoms” sections where it mentions the engine bogging down around 2000 RPM https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html

Hello Graham and welcome to the LOC. You have the same car as me then. When you pushed the pistons back did you first open the calliper bleed nipple to allow the excess brake fluid to leave from there?
-
Please PM me Colin and let me know how it’s done, I did message Steve about it.

Sell it, or breaking and scrap it? - IS200 Sport
steve2006 replied to killakrust's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
Interesting video regarding the sill rust problem -
OEM would probably be your best choice, aftermarket maybe Mintex. Bit of a discount here https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product-category/brakes-transmission/?make=316&model=337 Preparation goes a long way when replacing discs, rust left on the hub mating surface can create problems with warping and avoid heavy braking where possible until everything beds in.
