  1. I own an IS, I have driven a 2.8i - it would annialate us in any gear from any speed. Perhaps at that speed he didn't want to mess his hair or he couldn't change gear as he was on the phone :o or he was simply alongside as he didn't want to go too fast or was checking out the 'funny non-german car' :eyes: Oh - and as for him being disadvantaged by the 5 gears rather than 6 - the gearing on the IS is pretty poor - waste of time IMO - would have been better having a decent 5 speed box rather than a 6 speed box where all the gears are so low. I understand having the first few gears short for acceleration - but they are silly close, and with an engine that runs out of steam so soon, pointless - then the 6th gear is not high enough so the car is not as efficient as you would expect with a 6 speed box as the 6th is where the normal 5th would be - perhaps lower than some as the revs are running higher than I would expect on a family/exec saloon car at 80mph.
  2. TBH - the person responsible is the one who got in that car and dove while drunk. Others were perhaps stupid - but he was the one responsible. For all we know, perhaps the drunk driver made threats to the other chap? Perhaps the other chap was fooled into believing the mate was sober - whatever the reasons were - I doubt we'll ever know. But the barman, the police, the friend - none of those people are responsible for that man getting back in his car and causing this tragic accident. I agree that the friend should not have given the keys back. I also think that the police releasing him and calling a friend to play taxi is bizarre, misguided and wrong. But I still think that the person responsible was the man who cannot be held accountable. The friend however - if he removed evidence, should be charged with that. The police - hope an enquiry leads to this sort of mistake not happening again. Very sad too.
  3. Lol - we are talking about a country where you can legally own a semi-automatic gun, and yet to put tobacco livery on an F1 car is banned..... (not talking the actual logo here - talking the lookalike colours with nothing else!!)
  4. Cripes - awful. Cannot imagine being a jury member on that either. But why do the police ring a friend to take him home??? Don't they have Taxis in the states???
  5. I was just thinking my service hadn't been quite so special...... they collected my car for me and brought it back, so no waiting around... only left a Yaris loan car, then a ratty Corrolla when it had to go back again - and no choccies..... but the total bill was only just over £60 for my 10,000 mile service, so I'm okay with no chocs!
  6. I have one of these for my CRX - never on the car for driving around posing, but ALWAYS goes on if about to go on track. Gives a lot of protection against bugs and stones - very worthwhile if doing high speeds.
  7. Yes - but either of you asked them what their 'cash' offer is (not trade in - selling the car and walking out!) :eyes:
  8. Thanks for that - two peeps had said they were 'in the post' so when they didn't arrive, thought you'd been scared off Karting by Claire's exploits! :eyes:
  9. Phew - I was getting concerned as there are three threads I was hoping for replies to, and all was very quiet. Wondering if no-one checks events? I was assuming would be seen if people use Today's Posts....... but the Karting/Anglesey threads don't seem to be getting response - not even from the two peeps who have their names down (and paid for)
  10. Either you lot are sending me to Coventry - or I've gone deaf?? :?::?:
  11. Yep - I remember him saying that too. Call me sceptical still - but I remember BMW also saying this back in the mid-eighties!
  12. Call me skeptical, but I personally believe the only restriction on the number of IS200s in the UK is the number of sales they can obtain. I don't doubt that there are more 318 BMWs (one single model) in the UK than the entire total of Lexus cars...... but I think it is badge snobbery by the British that is leading to that, nor Lexus wanting to protect the value of our cars. I agree it is desirable to the marque to have low depreciation - just don't think they will limit sales to achieve it.
  13. Lol - I wouldn't take that heap round my local track (small twisty B-road home!) :eyes: It was so nice to get back in the IS - especially since the new CD player actually works, they have repaired the dash and it's blemish free, the rattle that I got when in 2nd, 4th and 6th gear has now gone.... AND they even repaired the small ding in the back passenger side door where some cretin had opened their door into my car when it was a week old! No damaged dash, no not-working CD player and no rattles. My car at last is perfect (fingers crossed). I have mentioned the brittle paint (I have lots of stone chips - he immediatly asked if I did a lot of motorway miles, which I don't) and so he is going to speak with Lexus. Hope I hear back as my only complant regarding that dealer is when they say they are going to ring back, they rarely do - and they forget what they have promised...... I had my car booked in for a service one Friday - they were meant to collect from my office car park - I left the keys with security. I rang at lunch to check all was fine and reception informed me busy so they would ring back. Of course they didn't. 5pm I discover my car hadn't moved all day. They had forgotten! So the dealer chap said that since the dealer that supplied my car hadn't even given me a keyring (let alone brollies and the like you chaps got) - he would get me booked in for Monday, a Lexus keyring, and replace the GS300/430 service book I have with the correct one...... that was 2k miles ago. Never got the keyring, and today when I mentioned the book, they said they would order me one.
  14. Certainly is - but worth it!! Besides, have nice car - will travel!! :eyes: Not got a nice car today - IS is in the Lexus dealers having ANOTHER new stereo and the dash repaired where they damaged it before..... plus the ding removed where someone opened a door into my car (I have to pay for this - I would have thought they would offer to cover it since I've had the messing about with the 3rd radio, and when it was supposed to be serviced, but they didn't collect)...... anyway - I have a Corrolla - absolute pants! I got a Yaris last time and it was a great little car..... this thing is horrid. Vague steering, sloppy gearbox, cheap interior - feels like a banger and only done 16k miles!
  15. Claire - it is worth the trip - book a weekend away and come take a look - if you don't have a helmet, you can borrow one, a Honda on track is an awsome place to be - and I will get you on track! :bounce: Hubby may fance a ride out in a Prelude - have you got this month's Jap Performance??? Track Day Hero will be at Anglesey - he is VERY quick!
  16. Two Team Lexus chaps that I have down for the Karting - please confirm you are still coming..... I have paid the money already so I could really do with your cheques. If you are not coming now, please let me know as I will have to re-sell these places to avoid being out of pocket. Sam
  17. Hence why Honda-R use Bookatrack for all our trackday events!!! Claire - in Gold you mentioned the R-Club closing. No. The Prelude.com resource on the internet shut as not enough people supported (paid subs towards the costs incured) so it went under. Honda-R is not a type-r club, it is for all Honda's. The 'R' just denotes that we have a performance bent. If your hubby wants to join - www.honda-r.org.uk and click 'Join' Next point - Anglesey trackday...... two weeks today (since now Friday) Honda-R will be at Anglesey in Wales. This is a great little circuit. I am sure if you and the hubby can get up to it - you will have a great day. And I can certainly sort your hubby out with a passenger ride in a fast Honda..... :eyes: If any other Team Lexus chaps/chapesses want to come along to see what this trackday lark is all about - feel free to come take a look - and chat with us. We are a friendly bunch honest!!! Sos not to reply to you in Gold Claire - for some reason, I can look but not post?!?! :?:
  18. We thought we had takers for all the places on this tour - but when cheques were requested, suddenly we have two places now unattended....... All proceeds are going to Macmillan - is anyone interested in a tour of the BAR F1 factory?
  19. Hey chaps - no cheques arrived yet - still up for it????? :?:
  20. And ...... yep - you guessed it.... the accord coupe was made in Japan!!! :eyes:
  21. The Lexus holds its value very well in comparison to many other cars - but it will still take a dive when it changes from New to 2nd hand - even if it only had 500 miles on the clock - it is no longer new. Most cars have a heavy loss over 1 year, then more sought after cars slow down. Average depreciation states the car should be worth just under 50% of new price at third birthday - I believe the Lexus is well above the 50% mark - closer to 60% in fact.
  22. I'm afraid I must state that the build quality of the UK built Hondas is still not upto the Japanese built Hondas. The Accord was built at Swindon, hence fit and finish not as good as it should be. The 5 door Civics (old shape) and all new Civics are also Swindon built. I am happy to say all my Hondas were built in Japan!
  23. Claire - the Insight costs £23k to build (£35k per car if you include the R&D etc.) and the list price is £17k But Honda have used this to show what can be done, and to develop the technology which will be used in future Civics and even the top flight sports cars. The Insight is seriously good fun to drive and exceptionally well built. Same steering wheel and similar dash to the S2000 !! The Civic hybrid will be more conventional and not as fuel efficient, but won't be a loss maker! I believe it will cost circa £15k and will be a 4 door, 4 seater. It won't obviously have all the technology as some of it is still too expensive (such as the materials used) The DualNote (next gen NSX?) soulds impressive though - 3.2 V6 with battery assist...... 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, top speed over 170mph and capable of 45-50mpg !!!
  24. Give that girl a prize!!! Lol - you got it in one. Honda Insight - great fun, went for a bit of a play on the local twisties, and a tour through the town on the way for take out - and was getting 82.5 mpg while in town and having a play!!! How mad is that! Over 300 patents on one car - amazing.
