  1. It will fail, as according to MOT web manual, the driver needs to see that they are operating or not - called a 'tell tale'. So the indicators may be flashing but if there is no cabin warning on a post 1986 car, then it fails.
  2. My Mk4 has, but I cannot remember with the Mk2 I had, but I think not, as kids got excited when I got the Mk4, and even now whenever my daughter has a new boyfriend, she thinks it is great to ask them if they want their seats heated up.
  3. My teenagers like the LS because of the passenger seat warmers, and the lighter sockets in doors, so they can charge there many devices to entertain themselves. No need for inbuilt DVD's etc. They also like being driven to their end of year parties in a limo-like motor, so win-win I say. Wish I could have had an LS in my 20's, though it would have spoiled me for anything less.
  4. Impressive, and great colour, though I think at my age driving one of them while listening to Jay-Z might look a bit odd. Also given the state of UK roads, the skirt would not last long.
  5. Azeem - on my Mk4(or previous Mk2), no flashing indicators when alarm goes off. However I recall my Mk2 used to not flash when alarm set, where as the Mk4, does flash when alarm set and unset.
  6. Touring in an LS, what could be better. Have a great time, and don't forget to enjoy the views from your mobile sofa
  7. Well in last 4 years managed to convert a few of my mates with German metal to come over to Lexus. One of them got so ticked off with his Merc costing him about £4K every few years to sort out suspension issues. He made a comment that his LS400 (17 years old) is so much nicer than his 5 year old Merc and 4 year old BMW. The only reason he keeps the German metal is so that his customers can see he is successful (or to put it another way, earns so much money he can afford to p*ss it away maintaining the darned things). Watched Top Ger last night, and made me think that those guys earn so much money it would be of little consequence if they had to spend your average annual salary maintaining their steeds. But to me it is not a motoring show, but more a chance to laugh at some wealthy petrol heads showing what burkes they are. It is in fact I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here with wheels IMHO
  8. I like the way the Suspension Pack is a rarity, I've seen them from time to time on fleabay, so not a killer buy. And are suspension packs for boy racer types?!?! Wonder what it will actually go for in the end, and agree I would be going for a LS460 if I had £15K to chuck about, or £15K's worth of petrol in current LS, would get me to a few corners of the planet
  9. What the heck, I got neck ache just trying to look at the photos, and what's with the trade plate in windscreen. ...and maybe a wheel arch can be found on ebay, but so can a better LS
  10. Cannot help with it all, but Boot Leak, it is just where the sealant dries out then you get a sort of capillary effect and it crosses over the threshold, and travels down to roughly where the boot lock is, and then fills up the spare wheel base. Make sure you clean off the old sealant completely, before refitting. It took about an hour to do, and plenty of old rags, and isopropanol to get it ready. For the Headlamp, you can do it without removing battery, so see this link this gave me clear idea of what to do. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/81263-ls400-mk4-yr-2000-dipped-bulb-gone/ Be careful popping the indicator and not damage paint work. sounds like you have some work to do, but worth it in the end with the front end, my MK2 had similar issues, but on any lock, but got rid of it as a parts store for a mate restoring his Mk2. Best of luck
  11. Generally I like to let them beat me, knowing that they have a false sense of how good their car is. LS is really meant for chilling rather 99.9% of the time. Though I do love it when I have Merc or BMW on my tail and then I floor it to see them drop behind and try and work out how that happened.
  12. It's the best run-about and cheap to run luxury motor you'll ever own. I've used my Mk4 every day for last two years, and the previous Mk2 as well, never going back to any other car but another LS in the future.
  13. Someone got a bargain even if they have to spend a grand getting any unmentioned problems sorted.
  14. Not my cup of tea, and why go for low profiles, surely the weight of an LS on these and today's potholed roads makes no sense. I've managed to get square wheels around my neck of the woods on 16 inch wheels. I am sure someone could buy this and maybe ship it out to Malaysia where it might fit the street decor a little more!
  15. Had similar problem in past and it was power steering fluid being low, but that is easy to spot when you pop the bonnet.
  16. 4 cyl 2.2 or 3.0L V6 were the UK options IIRC. I had the 2.2 saloon, but always hankered after the estate. Due to scarcity of the estates though, I went to Honda Aerodecks for a while, and, in fairness, they never let me down. I did once consider an Aerodeck for the missus, not a bad motor, but she got impatient and ended up with Accord. Having been in (but not owned Merc Estates) I found them roomy but soul-less. One reason why I am not keen on the LS430, looks too much like a Merc to me. Even once looked at Omega estate, but several people said problems with dropped tailgate after about 6 years, which means I stuck with saloons. Also with the saloon, less likely to get filled with crap for taking to local tip, and not being a dog owner, not sure I ever want a dog making the car smell that much
  17. Same here with mine, it seems like minor tweaks through the life of MK4. Sound system between Mk2 and Mk4, not much in it. I prefer the Mk2 interface (good old fashioned push buttons), where as the Mk4 touch screen display gives clearer details. Also VSC on MK4 makes a big difference in this naff weather.
  18. I need new blades, as they have gone from silent to squeaky. I have seen the aero blades on Autobulbsdirect.co.uk (used them for HIDs in past), so may give them a whirl. The web site gives reviews which are thumbs up for the blades. But will ring local Lexus dealer to see what they have. I heard in the past of Lexus charging £80 for blades (though I suspect this means arms as well, not just blades!!)
  19. I had advisory on handbrake last year, and my mechanic now tells tells me that if the thing fails next time around it could major job due to issues with corrosion. I did not quite understand all his comments at the time, so when I go see next time I will get to the bottom of what is what. But it seems as if when they start pulling the hand brake bits out, who knows what will need replacing, I recall it could be as much has £300+ to sot it out. as to crack in screen, my Mk2 had one just up by the rear view mirror stub, and to my mind must have been near a failure, but never got picked up in four years on owning it.
  20. Looks like it is going for a good price considering miles, and amazing given it is in Florida near all that salty sea water. Just goes to show how good the body work is covered.
  21. Pretty good, but I recall a few years ago coming across some chap in US Mid West who had Volvo P40 heading towards 2million miles. ( I think he did a regular Kansas City to Houston run - or something like that) So any well built and well cared for car should have no problem achieving high miles. Mind you in the bad old days when I used to put 80000 on a Vaux Cavalier in one year (got a new one each year), the engine was drinking oil, and more rattles than Mothercare. Be more interested with the 900K Lexus what state the seats are in, as when I have looked at high mileage Jags, etc, it is the internal state of the car that counts as much.
  22. Lane hoggers should be made to read the highway code first, then eat it, then be fined, with points. I wonder if this numpty learned their lesson. ...and my ears blushed at the commentary!!!
  23. Agree, a stress test on battery will reveal whether you have a collapsed or collapsing cell. (Take it to someone who who can test it, or see friendly AA, RAC man who might test it for a cup of tea) what generally happens is that even a minor change in current draw cause the plates in the duff cell to short and so voltage drop is instant and causes the LS to hiccup. had this with my previous LS, and yet the battery worked fine in my garage powering all sorts of things for hours on end, but not my LS.
  24. I had Nexen on my Mk2, they were okay, but not that impressed with wet handling as the rear was really really twitchy. Falkens on Mk4 make a big difference. Also found Nexens, tramlined on motorways, where as Falkens do not. One thing I have found is any small amount of un-even wear causes vibration at different speeds on different road surfaces, so keeping tracking and alignment spot on all the time is a must to ensure reduced road vibration issues. Not so use why the LS shows up issues with tyres so much, but may because it is such a smooth motor, you notice any deficiency.
