  1. Avons are not normally a bad tyre, good racing background and 1st choice tyre for the good people at Rolls Royce & Bently. I have tried avons but did not find them as responsive in the rain as I do with Perrelli's. I hear good reviews on hear about Toyos so it could be worth giving them a try.
  2. Maybe someone could put an answer to this. On the Saints RLFC fan site there are 2 sponsors lined up to be the shirt sponsor. Apparently one of them is Lexus. Now I know the club have sponsorship from Lexus Liverpool who supplied an IS200 sport to our GB star Paul Sculthorpe. Would Lexus GB really sponsor a shirt of Rugby League team? or if the L did appear would be for Lexus Liverpool? and do Lexus do any sponsorship? Thanks
  3. I have found the local jewllers to be cheap for the batteries and they are usually the good branded ones. They normally cost me about £1 to £2 depending on which car it was for. For the Lexus I think it is a case of unscrewing the screw and replace the battery, I have not had that pleasure yet though.
  4. I have read on the net you can get some good deals on the Fujitsu LOC pda and some sites even have the offer with TOM TOM software. I beilieve it is extremly good. Have the IPAQ's reliabilty improved as last time I had some with work we got over 50 % back faulty out of 200 on trial.
  5. I got mine as part of the deal for the car. Must admit comes in handy after a messy day at Oulton park I can put the overalls and boots in the boot and not have as much mess to clean as it it on the carpet. A worthy investment
  6. I am sure someone made a mistake with a plate as I saw a 63 plate today. i would guess it could be a personal plate but did not think they were alowed to put a new plate on a car older than that plate so does that mean some needs to wait 10 years?
  7. Stu I used the Plug-In HF Car Kit PPH-1 with an 8310/3210 and 3310 without any problems, cheaper than the full car kit, portable and could be used with a number of Nokia phones. I have just upgraded to a non blu-tooth phone and fitted a MR. Handsfree kit from Orange and that works really well, no screws and good quality sound. The only down side with anything like this is they have no external arial, but they all charge the phone. The plus with the Orange kit is it will work with a large number of phones not just Nokia. They dont have a phone cradle but that can be added and it is cheaper than the full car kit jobbie.
  8. Here is my views from what i remember back 8 years ago doing my test. Seriously look at Japanese cars the reason for higher insurence though is parts. You can not beat the Micra, or Yaris for a first car. Alternatives would be to go for something from the VW group like the Ibiza or maybe a Skoda. Very reliable normally. The Corsa I have heard to many bad stories about them from collegues. Would look at Ford KA 2 or fiesta. Definatly avoid fiat, and my french manager says avoid French cars as everything falls off. Get your son to avoid the NCB accelorators as not every insurance company will accept it so he will loose out in the long term, Hope he has much fun in his new motor as i did in my first one ( Austin Meastro 1.6)
  9. I would not mind seeing some club items like the LOC umbrellers, maybe even LOC golf balls. Maybe the odd Lexus item from Mr Lex :winky: Would like the group buy idea though that would get some hammering on the old visa.
  10. Good move Froomer, I got stung by car tax when I had an A-class ( prior to the changes in the rules) but I love my IS200 it is great fun. Commig up the M6 the needle keeps creaping up past 70, then 80 and 90 and hit the ton without realising it. never had that before in a car. Push for the sports kit, just for 18" shoes they do look good on. IBM would never let me have a LExus as a company car Now i don't work there sold up down south and my Manager is Jelous and our MD keeps looking round the 2 that are in our car pak Have plenty of fun with it and push for as much as you can but remember according to Autocar Lexus is one of the hardest to get any discount, so push for extras, that's what I did and got not bad a deal that beat Virgin Cars.
  11. A friend of mine had his Merc converted without a problem. WE drove from Wolverhampton to Edinbourgh and back for about £20, well worth it if you do large millage. It is also worth contacting powershift as you might get a discount, I know he is on his MG. Every little bit helps.
  12. I am being biased but go for the IS200. I went to look at the Audi A4 Quattro but dealer did not want to let me test drive. It took a complain to Audi UK after 3 failed attempts for a test dive, by which time I bought the Lexus. Audi sent me the Audi life mag, and when I read the letters page all i saw was, "My company car has changed to the A4", "My company are giving me an A4 as a car" etc. I found Audi dealers bad and after reading the mag I came to the conclusion that Audi are now heading into rep-mobile markets. The Lexus you see very few on the road ( well up north you do on M6 in Cheshire) and you get a lot more for your money. As for colour I would go for Plat Ice with Exmore interior. The problems with Blues, reds, and dark colours is they are harder to match and you can spot re-sprays, but must admit Granit sky and Blue really did look nice and I had a hard time deciding on what to go for.
  13. Mine goes in to South Manchester and I see a couple in car parks in Altrincham and there is a Stracahtien blue one that always passes, but non are driven by lovely Ladys, all blokes and I am sure one is trying to look like Alan Partridge
  14. claire did the driver have one of those How's my driving stickers on the rear of the truck? if so could be worth ringing. As for the fleet manager he is only human, he / she will probably want to know what has gone on and would not be happy. If he wont speak to you just keep going up the chain as the higher it get's the more likely you are of something getting done. good luck
  15. Claire I would persue the police because he could be driving without insurence, and it could be fraud. MY mum had no accident but a guy claimed she hit his car. Now after a failed prosecution by the CPS due to lack of evidence she is having a private prosecution against her. Fortunatly the old insurence company belives it is fraud. Just fight the police dont always like dealing with the paperwork hence nothing gets done some time.
  16. Geez Claire Not good, remember A car is a piece of metal that can be repaired a human is a little bit harder to repair. As long as now is injured that is main thing, still is PITA I know I felt gutted when someone tried to de-badge the car. Did you get the lorry drivers registration? if so the under the DVLA rules the insurer can get the truck owners details and then start action, also the police can provide it to you when you make a statement, as they did to my mum in her non-accident. It might sound daft but if you loose and it ends up being 50 - 50 you could try a private proesection for the loss, but as long as the police are informed and if they can get the driver for not providing the correct insurence details it could be a criminal act. I hope everything works out for the best
  17. Java I have not found any problem with the balance of the car when I put the locking caps on. They did not feel much heavier than the official Lexus caps. Can not say I have had any problems and considering I travel on winding roads can not complain. The ones I have are by Cosmic racing and came from Gendirect I think.
  18. I have noticed in the past that many people on the fourums talk about the old F1. Well the weekend of 24th and Monday 25th September is 50 years of motorsport at one of the toughest tracks in the UK - Oulton Park in Cheshire. To celebrate this the HSCC is recreating the gold cup event (winners include Jim Clarke, Stearling Moss and Sir Jack Brabham). Also we have Sir Jack Brabham doing 3 laps in his championship winning car again ( last year he did not compleate 1 lap), Sir Jackie Stewert will be along too. I Know there is a cruise in Manchester that weekend so you could visit and see proper F1 racing. If any one would like to participate as a Marshal at events around the country I can strongly recomend you to have a look at http://www.marshalspost.com/ & http://www.ten-tenths.com/ where many people like myself can point you in the right direction on who to contact if you would like to give the orange overalls a go. It is fun I have been doing it for some time and love every minute - pitty we dont get many lexus racing. Hope to see some Lexus's at the Gold cup
  19. NOOOOO the crusie is on the weekend of Oulton Parks 50th anversery so I can not make that, but if there is a little get together in Manchester durring the week I could sneek out of work early (thank you flexi time) and meet up with you all.
  20. I'm looking for customer testimonials at the moment Ian, guess you won't be up for that! If you've any comments you want me to pass to the powers that be, let me know. (Only 3 weeks left before I leave for pastures new!!!) i heard about norten antivirus, where do i buy that :) If you want to do it on the cheap buy it via the net, you can buy it at PC World, DABS.com, Staples, and most PC shops will sell them. Mr Hickman I still stand by my ant microsoft stance. Most IT bods I work with wont use IE Outlook for the reason I wont and we find very few sites now that will not work Netscape, Mozillia or Opera. However more sites fail with the Mozillia ( and Netscape 6 upwards) but netscape comunicator is fine. I am currently using LOC with Netscape 7.1 no problems. As a software tester it is amazing how many bugs are in MS products, if our company released software like that we would have no customers. Microsoft have excellent marketing departmnts. As for MaCafee Clare, I dont think it is that bad why else would compannies like IBM use it in facr I have an old copy and MaCaffe were good with the updates.
  21. I have had 2 sets of valve covers stolen, so have been lucky compared to others, have you considered Locking valve covers that is what I put on mine now and they are bugger to fit but that means a bugger to remove.
