  1. Tom hi ........ maybe ask Steve 2006 for some thoughts . he's a Mod on here with HUGE experience of these cars BUT you cannot directly ask a Mod it seems . so wait a little and I'm sure he'll pop in and take a look at this post BTW I have absolutely no idea how to help you ........ when the engine won't start and it's just a " clicking " sound then that used to be a tell tale sign that the starter motor was playing-up Battery and electrics in a 23 year old car can be troublesome sadly Malc
  2. must've taken longer than that to de-mast a ship or two to get some of the timbers to build it with ........ many of the ceilings show the joists being ships rigging masts whatever the terms might be .... doubt they'd pass the Planning Inspector these days tho' .. no longevity I guess Malc
  3. doubtless I shall . I'll be just 99 and awaiting a card from Prince ??? then to be King As I said somewhere, the wheels look ace now after refurb .. £250 cash but centre caps not done .. they seem all ok with their solid state plastic construction My nephew keeps pushing me to better look after the Ls400 ... sure he's thinking he'll inherit when I pop off ..... he's getting the 1932 Triumph whatever I'm sure I just cannot see me letting the old gal go you know, what would I want with a different V8 4ltr anyway and if I did 10k miles a year from now to then she'll only have covered 510k miles ... with another 500k miles to go I'm sure NOW my purpose today was to say that both the speedo and the rev counter are self-healed .... well the spedo most of the time .. when she's running it does look as if she's about right with the mph reading too Just that pixels climate reading, air flow direction centre pod that only works after an age of heating up / car running ...... an hour maybe .... the pixels become readable I'll get around to it all I'm sure . no rush tho' ............ Malc
  4. I haven't checked out what I'm postulating below . this is what I think I read but quite a while back One of the local Kent MPs Conservative is up-in-arms about Solar Panels .............they all seem to come from a Chinese source Malc
  5. maybe let the Forum know your fabricator details for the future ! Malc
  6. Excellent notion, I'll round up a few of the local " green " do-gooders and get them to sacrifice themselves in the cause of heating my home Malc
  7. so my house built in the 1600's is ok ?? NO it's not lathe and plaster and wode, well, not on the surface anyway ....... getting those pesky radiator and gas pipes all over is sometimes an issue tho' ............ my house is " green " not being replaced for 400 years ....... so I'm allowed to offset my " green house " for the wonderful V8 4 ltr transportation I've allowed myself these past 20+ years in my now " green " car.... not replacing it with summat brand new thereby depleting the planet of rare minerals and electronic gadgetry in the build process of a brand new car I'm a good guy ?? I'm GREEN and proud to be so, driving my non EV, my V8 4ltr limo petrol wonder Malc
  8. I remember a few days ago watching Stuart Rose, the Chairman of ASDA saying as much . " watch this space for petrol deals soon " SR was the retired Chairman of M&S and I guess he's fed up being in retirement mode and happy to put his brilliant skills into Asda .... I rated him for sure, a very clever and astute guy HOWEVER, let's remember that the " brothers " who own Asda are the petrol forecourt kings of GB in general . so they should be getting the best price for their customers Malc
  9. not too expensive if Queenie is installing it all at Buck House .......... Malc
  10. and here we are, sensibilities beginning to return ...... Asda Sittingbourne Kent just now for the Honda Legend and E10 ... 176.7p a ltr .... cost to fill-up £115.05 no E5 tho' for my Ls400 which in all fairness is only 2/3rds empty Malc
  11. good luck with that one ............... our cars are just so stupidly electronically advanced ( even mine at 27 yrs old in some respects ) and these sodding wires and connections just simply degenerate with age and weather and all sorts of impacts I'm concluding that if one's going to have an older car then it needs to be pre-electronic gadgetry .. summat from the 1970's maybe ...... now fancy a Mk3 Cortina estate 2.3 VX or whatever might be still around that rust hasn't terminated Malc sorry, I digress and wander ..... it's me age
  12. certainly not, excellent write-up hope you stocked up with Aldi gingernut bikkies too Malc
  13. my local Shell on Ditton Hill Maidstone is now 182.9p ........ almost the " cheapest " hahahahahahaha ... around Malc
  14. Personally on my Ls400 a while back i was fortunate to relieve the blo--ody sound of the alarm going off willy nilly by just turning down the dial under the console area Malc
  15. I'm still after my longed for 1965 Bentley S3 or indeed a simpler ( than this one ) RR S111 of 1965 .. they had sorted all the earlier issues and most had Power Steering " as standard " ..... hahahahaha . in a RR eh ! Not found one yet, nearly did at £27,500 BUT they said it was " under offer " . so maybe I will get my dream machine before I pop me clogs BUT really, my existing Ls400 is all I want and shoud need Malc
  16. let's remember these cars of ours are now very aged and electronics and electrics have a habit of weirdly degrading with no clear but random effects with such age Good luck finding the solutions Malc
  17. I've read your post and have absolutely no idea personally how to help you with any useful thought Good luck Malc
  18. Mark, previous posts about these speedo issues reveal a company in Kent that I'm going to use sometime ... when my speedo finally stops messing about and stops completely tho' Reman . in Rochester Kent . might be worth contacting them for their thoughts . bearing in mind you're a long way away Malc
  19. boo..... hiss ..... the shamrock and leprecheauns are on your side for sure .. guess you're still on the original set of tyres too Malc
  20. starting, starting you say .. they've been doing it for a very long time with petrol ....... I'm only using Aldi and Lidl for my groceries now ..... the only one's who don't sell petrol and therefore more honest than the rest ...... imho Malc
  21. patience patience and even lots more patience and an appropriate penetrating fluid over a useful time period will undoubtedly free them Trouble is both KwikFit are in it for the Kwik Fit Fix as are all other adjusting businesses .......... happened to me some years back with a local Wheel Alignment business and they pronounced I had to have brand new kit at xx'oo's£££ from Lexus ........... to which i replied that they had better just do the job they're being paid to do, to adjust . at which they kept the car overnight, used copious quantities of penetrating fluid and woweeee, lo and behold, the next morning I had the call . all done sir,... the lubricants had done their job and the adjustments could be made ok . normal fees charged of course It's just patience in the end Malc
  22. yeh, and some old Musk'y EV driver earning the world's biggest income ever ..... who'd drive an EV eh ! Malc
  23. gulp, £420 ........... plus VAT and carriage no doubt ........... I'll pass on that one methinks Malc
