  1. The latest issue has details of the IS220 diesel using a 2.2 litre diesel, due to be released shortly. exprected price 24k.
  2. defly check out at the forester. not great to look at, but bomb proof. RAV4 isnt bad either.
  3. The recommended grade is 5W30. I saw a 4.5 litre can for just under 11 quid at Costco this weekend and thought of buying some. I bbought the same can for 22 quid at my last service from Halfords. Let me know if anyone wants some and I can pick it up on my next trip there.
  4. I had a quick look at the front tyres this weekend. they;ve done 9.5k miles and the insides are visibly more worn than the outsides, though I dont have any measurements. I reckon I might get another 5k out of the fronts before I might have to replace them. Would it help if i swapped the right front with the right rear and the left front with the left rear to even out some wear? whats the best rotation pattern? I live in London and moving the tyres on the rims isnt going to be a cheap exercise. I havent got the alightment and camber setting checked. can anyone recommend a place in south, south-east or east london thats aware of what the correct settings should be?
  5. I think you can appreciate fast cars if you can appreciate this idea of the cool wall. After all the guy is honest about the fact that he loves fast expensive cars. And what the hell, he's earned it. Give me top gear over 5th gear any day. Richard Hammond is another story. This is Clarksons show and he overshadows everyone.
  6. worth buying a lonely planet guide book.
  7. i think we alll agree that there are a number of small features that european luxury cars have as standard like washer fluid lights, illuminated mirror switches, great ergonomics, memory seats, dimming interior lamps, map spotlights etc. given that the IS is really based of a toyota, its not too surprising that these are missing. hopefully the next generation will be more mature.
  8. - women who walk up to the turnstiles on the tube during rush hour and then start looking into their purses for their tickets. How can they forget that this is just how it works; everyday. - women at the till who cant have their cash/cards ready to pay. they just stand there foolishly watching the checkout person and then take on a startled expression when the checkout person say its ..... . then they spend minutes trying to fish out exact change in 1/2p coing before realising that its not possible to carry 3 pounds in 1 and 2p coins. For f*ck, be a bit proactive and anticipate what might happen next. its not that difficult. makes me shudder to think that the same people drive.
  9. Her passenger cannot be a witness. A witness has to be independent. Definitely take pictures from many angles and draw diagrams. The more detail you put in, the better your changes.
  10. I was photographed twice in 10 minutes ( in the same spot) in e london for straying into a bus lane. turned out that a car had broken down in the other lane and the only way ahead was to cut into the bus lane. the broken down car was not visible in the field of view of the camera. i appealed on the ground that i couldnt make the same mistake at the same spot in 10 minutes and asked to see video evidence. turns out that they were trying to prosecute about 50 other cars. i got let off but they're really cheeky. do a search on google. there are websites that help you appeal and charge a small fee. i'd rather give some money to someone who has the initiative to make a business of this than Ken who's just a w*nker.
  11. Ordered the Creative Zen Touch 20Gb. Was tempted by the iPod but its a bit of a Mini - fashion statement and expensive. The Creative is as good and cheaper. 170 all in from amazon
  12. Sorry I meant a portable MP3 player. not for the car. I think the audio system in the Lexus is too good to play MP3's through.
  13. Looking at getting one. Min 20 GB. Looking at the iPod, Creative Zen Touch and and iRiver. Zen seems to the best one around considering its lower price and cool looks.
  14. >>>Petrol Advice, Supermarket... or Unethical Conglomerate Where is the ethical dilemma Tesco buys their petrol from Esso, ASDA is Walmart., Sainsburys is Shell. I stick to Shell because its the devil I know.
  15. design theme looks like its been borrowed from the new 5 series... like it though
  16. sorry to hear. my thoughts are with you guys
  17. driving poast canada water tube station around 6.45 am on Thursday. Was it you???
  18. isnt there a lever that they use to adjust the clutch setting. the remaining life should be proportional to the length of the lever thats been used up. atleast thats how it worked on a golf i had.
  19. Do any of you guys keep your own tyre pressure gauge? I went to the local Shell pump to check the tyre pressure. Something about the machine didnt seem right so I pumped them up to 34 psi in all wheels and drove off to a Tesco station. It showed 28/30 psi all around. So I took it to a Total station which showed 31/32 psi. All machines showed a tolerance of +/- 1psi, but what i found was upto 15% lower. Are any of these gauges reliable? Arent the garages obligated to ensure that their gauges are fairly accurate? I am thikinging of buying a tyre pressure gauge. Costs about a tenner at Halfords.
  20. Point taken guys. I am guilty. Attended only the Toyota Factory tour last year. Where's the next one? Anyone fancy a mini-meet in the South East? Perhaps a repeat of the one in Blackheath last year?
  21. I work in the IT albeit in the Financial services industry. The IT market in the Financial services industry is healtly and demand almost always outstrips supply. Except of periods of slowdowns where mass lay-offs happen, there isnt much to worry about. Money wise, perhaps the best paid IT jobs are in the city, but that gets offset by higher costs of living in London. He might find the work quite uninspiring as well.
  22. i had once helped someone jump start a car from mine (BMW). that guy was a mechanic and said that as long as i had my engine running, it was ok. nothing happened, but i doubt if i;d risk it again.
