  1. dont even get me started on that. suffice to say it was an interesting experience. Its shocking how insulated from the outside world we Londoners are.
  2. Black IS opposite Sheffield University around 4-5 pm Blue headed from Meadowhall towards J35 M1.
  3. I suppose the first thing to do would be to prove to Lexus that the TTE ECU rev limiter works and take it from there. I have a mech engg degree from India and i've been out of touch for about 9 years now so dont take anything I say as the final world. but this sort of thing is a fairly fundamental thing in the mechanical engineering world. i suppose anyone who works in the manufacturing sector should be able to help you with regard to recommending a materials testing lab. sorry mate - cant be of much more help.
  4. Why would the caps come loose voluntarily? 2 reasons IMHO 1. slow elongation of the bolt. Likely due to over torqueing causing plastic deformation leading to gradual failure. Material/manufacturing defect in the bolt. you could have this verified by a lab. 2. sudden failure of the bolt. again material/manufacturing defect and verifiable by a lab. overrevving - there is a rev limiter isnt there in the ECU that cuts your engine speed. even if you have been revving the engine its always been held within its limits. a bolt is typically designed with a factor of safety, several times its anticipated load. i would be suspicious if a conrod bigend bolt failed for any reason other than over torqueing or manufacturing defect.
  5. Chris - I am not an expert by any means. However I did a brief apprenticeship with a diesel engine manufacturer and I have seen this sort of damage due to bolts on the big-end of the con-rod failing. This causes the bolt to fly out, often taking chunks of the crankcase with it. Now, with the con-rod free to move, it often used to foul with an adjoining conrod causing that one to fail as well. Can you check if there is obvious bolt failure? Apologies if I am talking bollocks
  6. Got 207 miles from 35 litres. I fill it up till it starts to overflow, then drive and top up again. All 210 miles in London on reasonably busy road that works out to 27 mpg or about 415 miles from a tankful. This isnt Optimax BTW, just regular unleaded from Shell
  7. I need some help guys. Neighbours selling a Lexus IS200 Sport for sale. Its a 99 T reg with 53k on the clock. FLSH. All Alloys are badly scuffed. Front and rear bumpers have marks on them and need to be resprayed. I have havent taken a close look at the car. Its been advertised for 8295. Guys going abroad and needs a quick sale. Is that a good price? I reckon I could get another 300-400 off. What should I be looking for. Would anyone who knows what to look for be kind enough to look the car over and give an opinion. I am in SE London (docklands).
  8. I had a P reg Saab 900 in the past with the 2.3 turbo engine. Must admit the seats are the best that I have been in and the engine had lots of grunt. The handling was lousy, service costs were very high. It was a very realiable car, but thats when SAAB were still making them. Now its just a Vectra with a different body.
  9. I regularly manage 27-28 mpg around town in London with a bit of light footed driving. I have managed 34mpg from a London-Lake District crusing at 75-80 with no traffic jams. It was pedal to metal driving, but it wasnt light footed driving either.
  10. I had similar problems with Nortons. Apparently the NAV 2003/2004 builds are very dodgy. I finally uninstalled NAV, reinstalled XP and decided not to go near NAV every again
  11. Leave it another year and the wheels will corrode. then get lexus to refurb them for you. I had a few marks on the wheels, but lexus fixed them for me due to the corrosion
  12. Not me mate. I've left my keys in the car, left my door open all night, left the house keys in the keyhole and come out wiithout a bloody noce.
  13. I get the feeling tha most Lexus dealers in the M25 area sell enough cars and have enough business to not have to bother providing the customer service Lexus is known for. Lexus Bromley are really a Toyota shop and thier service stands are good by Toyota standards, but as a Lexus owner I expect a bit more (or am I a sucker to have bought a posh Toyota in their eyes??). I wrote a letter to the Centre Manager last time with copies to Lexus GB about troubles I had last month. I received a call from Lexus GB apologising, but nothing from Lexus Bromley. It was only when I asked the manager whether or not he had received my letter did he acknowledge it. Pathetic.
  14. Parking spot available on my driveway. its open air, but quite safe.
  15. I had a rattle in the sunroof when the blind was drawn back and the roof in closed position. The garage had a play with it 4 times before they got it apparently. I was told that there is a design fault with the sunroof assembly and it can work itself loose. The roof lining needs to be taken out and the frame and needs to be packed out.
  16. Does it handle well? I drove the Focus and Mondeo. Handle well and seem like excellent value for money till you touch any trim. Made from waste paper bin material
  17. I am totaly confused about this two tone stuff? Isnt the black interior all black on the inside (dash/carpets/seats) and the beige interior black top/beige bottom dash, beige seats and beige carpets? Whats the 2 tone interior then?
  18. Davidoff Cool Water (daytime) Davidoff Good Life (evenings)
  19. My neighbour has a Green IS200 on sale on the autotrader - http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/cars_...rch_full=SEARCH is the first car on this search. Its been regularly serviced and cared for even if the car on first appearance looks a bit untidy. Havent driven it nor can I vouch for anything else except for the fact that the guys a doctor and loaded so he hasnt been skimping on the maintenance.
  20. It hurts. I was there a few weeks back. Insist on repairs at a Lexus garage.
  21. My mate bought a BMW with a blown head gasket. He had the AA inspect it for about £150 and they failed to spot it. I noticed it the next day he brought the car around to show me. My mate got back to the AA who refused to take any responsibility for it saying the gasket might have blown after the inspection. The car had done less than 40 miles after the inspection and the cap had about 1/4 inch layer of gunk on it. It was only after they were threated with trading standards that they agreed to refund the cost of the inspection plus full repairs at a BMW garage (£750 odd quid). Their inspection isnt worth the paper its written on. I'd prefer to pay a specialist garage to inspect the car.
  22. sorry to see that mate. u going the insurance route?
  23. 17 million VTEC engines without a failure being reported on the VTEC bit. Speaks volumes about how good they are. I test drove the Type-R this weekend (must admit I am considering selling the IS) and its stunning. You get near M3 performance for 40% of the price.
