  1. I agree, and we all have different opinions and experiences. My Volvo came with good tread Pirelli tyres but tramlined really badly to the point I had to change them. My GS has nearly new Michelins but they're fairly noisy. Eventually we find a tyre that suits us well, for me it's Avon. I also like the way they're made in the UK!
  2. For what it's worth I have Avons on my Volvo. Without a doubt the best tyres I've ever had. The wet grip it just amazing, I'd never buy anything else.
  3. My understanding is that it has to go to a main dealer after so many failed attempts. Hopefully I'm wrong!
  4. Well you were sensible enough to keep yours Mike. I know we've all said it, but it still amazes me the way the LS400 just goes on and on. One has appeared here recently which I've seen a few times, big wheels, big exhausts and a few touches that wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I must say it looks good, and sounds fantastic.
  5. Mike (Bluesman) can tell you how nice it was on account of him being a passenger in it once. I see its got one bid. It'll be interesting to look up the MOT in a couple of months.
  6. The fact they're not putting it through an MOT makes you wonder what else could be wrong. Having said that, the guy from Halifax that I sold it too was a decent sort so good luck to him if he can get that kind of money for it.
  7. Sorry to hear your tales of woe. I've always told myself an LS430 would be as far as I'd go before I couldn't sleep at night, at least with what they cost you could just walk away with the worst case scenario and not loose a fortune. Hopefully it'll be something simple.
  8. I was in London on Monday and although the traffic moved well I only managed 19
  9. As I recall the disc just comes away when the wheel is removed (front anyway). So important to clean the hub with a wire brush so the mating surfaces are flat.
  10. I'm glad to hear it young man. Come to think of it my LS400 was sold to a man in Yorkshire as well.
  11. The bushes arrived today but sadly I still have the "knock". A strange one this, no-one can find anything wrong/worn. Still, at least I have new links and bushes! I can only think shock absorbers next, although they feel fine over bumps. Maybe I'll just live with it for a bit.
  12. Stupidity really! I wanted an LS430 which cost me 3 times as much with higher mileage, not a patch on the LS 430 I sold this year, the sale of which could also be considered foolish. Still, I'm enjoying the GS and can't see me going back to the LS fold..... maybe.....
  13. This was my LS that I stupidly sold around 4 years ago for £1,100 with 107K and full service history, and just about immaculate. So what a real shame to read its dreadful MOT history, a picture of total neglect. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-Lexus-LS400-LPG/112925084294?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
  14. Well I'm guessing he's bought something more befitting a man of his advancing years!
  15. I'm guessing a main dealer diagnostic would be your best bet. The initial outlay may pay you in the end. Have you got the code number that came up?
  16. Maybe that explains why the Rockauto website had a different 02 sensor for my car although I put the correct date in. Now I always put 2006 instead of 05 as that was the start of the gen 3.
  17. Presumably checking on the dash came with later cars? Although mine has tpms I'm guessing it's there as a warning rather than a means of checking. I've got a workshop at home so checking tyres is easy using my compressor.
  18. Have you done a diagnostic? I was reading just recently that blocked cats or duff 02 sensors can cause stalling and misfires.
  19. I've ordered a pair so they should be with me in a couple of days. So presumably you do it just by removing the wheel, no crawling underneath? Strange really, of all the jobs I've done on cars over the years I've never done this one. It'll be nice to get rid of the noise, especially as I've more or less taken car of the creaks. It's also nice not to have the VSC check light on now!
  20. Thank you for that. It seems the anti roll bar links were a misdiagnosis so the knock remains. I don't mind as it wasn't an expensive job, and at least it's something less to go wrong in the future! Who did you order the bushes from and how much?
  21. Having said that about the passenger side, I bet there's a way round it (without cutting and joining wires) although I hope I never have to find out!
