  1. finally got there apart from a few little bits and bobs. Big four pots calipers fitted and a Sherpa van servo but still only a puny 2 litre. The wheely bin goes faster. :P
  2. You have to pop out the indicators to get at the hidden headlight fixings. One on each side. The bumper is ok left on. Good luck :P
  3. Keith. Pop the switch out and carefully open it up. It will be nothing more than dirty contacts. Re assemble it with a smear of waxoyl or summat similiar. Its very common on Supras. [well it was on all my ones anyway :D ]
  4. This may sound a bit obscure, but if you have a sunroof check it is competely flush when it is closed.
  5. OD on third and fourth. Does this bring back memories of Triumphs from the 70s?
  6. Thats a good point about the 5 forward gears. When you go into OD, its your fourth gear but after that, you get lock up. After OD at a certain rev point and if the engine temp is right, you get torque converter lock up. Try it. When you accel in an auto, the rev counter always rises before anything happens. When in OD at about 60, gently press the pedal so as not to kickdown and watch the rev counter move in unison with the car speed. I believe this is temperature controlled and wont work from cold.
  7. jac. The longest way is sometimes the quickest and easiest. If you remove the rear disc assembly, you will be able to work out which way the adjuster works. Chances are it will be seized and/or full off brake dust. In theory, these small shoes should never wear out because they are never applied when the vehicle is moving, however im sure if you look at them you will see quite a bit of wear on the leading shoes. Its a clever set up and works well if its maintained correctly but like most things, its out of sight, out of mind.
  8. I hope they are easier to change on the MK2 than the MK1. I invented a good few new words for the English language the day I changed mine . Come to think of it, im sure ended up removing the rear axle to make it easier :D
  9. I have a MK1 which despite having been crashed and stolen has only one rattle which comes from the sunroof sliding cover when I have it open all the way. I just either close it or turn up the radio. Im running 18" wheels on P zeros and must say have no complaints about tyre noise at all. Its coming up to its 10th birthday now and its still a much better assembled car than my Jag was when it was only half its age.
  10. Mine has got noisy lately but im putting it down to needing a re gas. Anyone give me an idea of cost?
  11. I tried optimax and the engine management light woke up on the dash. Haven't used it again and the light has gone back to sleep. Coincidence maybe?
  12. Micelis. I dont claim to be an expert (unless you wanna talk about traffic cone serial numbers :D ) but im sure you will find that your resale value on your lex will be much better than a Jag of the same age. Just do it as the advert says. Be a devil. The Lexeter is nailed together so well you would never know how old it was until your jealous mates remind you and then make other derrogatory comments. A sport or a standard, Just make sure its lowered.
  13. Has to be the MK1 sport. I have a lookalike complete with Stevie Wonder painted front wings and bonnet. As an alternative, you could always get one of these. Guaranteed to cause undergarment elastic failure in most females (and probably a few blokes as well.)
  14. Ive sussed out why my fuel consumption is so bad. I dont get to use the car very much but I always have to take it to the friendly filling station. Funny how its always my car when its dirty and empty but hers when she wants to impress her Boss. :D
  15. Nah. That paint job is far superior to mine. Its all one colour. Now that my TR is painted, im gonna get stuck into the Lexter. Problem is that I love driving it to much and the thought of it being off the road dosen't agree with me. Gotta do it though. I went to Cornwall in it a few weeks ago and managed to reverse it into a gate post and re arrange the rear bumper paint. . Im sure it would win first prize in an alternative concours competion. Anyway, I guess im going a bit
  16. Never mind arguing over which one is the sexier. What you need is one of these. Guaranteed to snap knicker elastic from 100 yards. The all new satsuma castanat XR6 f***y Magnet. You will need a ****ty stick to fight off the women. :P
  17. Be careful mate. You may have the Max power gang after you to rob your mesh. :P What paint did you use to do your calipers?
  18. I've only changed the 2 damaged bushes up to now with standard replacements. I did think about trying to source some Superflex items but it all boils down to cost in the end. I've used superflex on many Triumphs over the years and they do make a big difference. I have a friend who has just completely transformed the handling of his MX5 by fitting them. I guess im just scared of seeing if they are available cos I know I will just have to have them
  19. Bill Shankly. A legend. A truly down to earth Gentleman
  20. The car was MOTd last February. Its not easy to pick up on that part because its very well hidden. I noticed by having someone drive the car very slow and then braking hard whilst I watched. The front wheel moved back in the arch quite a bit but it didnt have any effect on the steering and the tracking is still ok after the change. I first thought of oil contamination but the car is completely oil tight. I looking down the lines of whether or not having the suspension lowered has put extra strain on the mounts. Anyway, if they last another 9 years I will be happy
  21. My MK1 found me. How could anyone resist summat so sexy that never gets a headache. I just can't get into the MK2. Maybe I will one day
  22. Thought you may like to see the reason why my wheels started wobbling again. Surely this cant be a one off. OK, the car is in its 9 year but all the other bushes are fine. This happened on both sides by the way but the other side was still just about attached. With replacements now fitted, the whole of the steering set up has been transformed. Check yours out before its too late
  23. I have seen something similiar. well sort of. Many years ago whilst away in Newquay, Cornwall. A Sherpa van had a similiar picture painted on its side. This is where the similarity ends because the van belonged to a British Leyland enthusiast who was advertising his services. It was a painting of an Austin Allegro...........Estate. . Apparently, if you have to ask why, you will never understand. For some strange reason I took a picture. Watch this space
  24. Its not the easiest set of plugs to change is it? I had the same problem and cured it by disconnecting the battery for about half an hour and then putting it back on. The problem has never arisen again
