  1. Yeah that's not very secure is it? I don't suppose the other part of the clamp is at the bottom of the tray by chance? Be handy if it was there.
  2. May I ask where in Dorset that was? It’s always good to have a exhaust specialist up your sleeve …. so to speak 🙂
  3. This has occurred before with a few folk on the forum. Well done for having the sense to have a look first for your own peace of mind. It nearly always pays to investigate problems yourself in the first instance!!
  4. I've read accounts ( on the US forum) of folk attempting a lens change and I don’t think it ended too well. I recall some having to resort to putting the whole unit into a oven to melt the sealant in order to get the old lens off, or trying to use a heat gun on the seam. It’s pretty easy to see what can happen to the main body as a result of this. Bear in mind you are needing to remove the front bumper in order to get the headlight unit out…. that’s a bit of a pig of a job. I would go the sanding route and uv sealant. I’ve done it twice in the last 6 years on my HID unit lenses. Last time was about 2 years ago and they still look perfect. I also give them a good waxing twice a year. I used the Holts Restoration Kit. I don’t think it’s a Halogen or HID issue … it’s just degradation of polycarbonate as has been said above. I see it starting to appear on the top edge of the lens on my wife’s Mx5, and they are Halogen.
  5. +1 to all of that. I have tried plugging in a HDD drive but it could not be read either in Mp3 or Flac format files. The system’s HDD space is pretty good to be fair. I have about 70 cds ripped and stored and there is still space for more. You can rip at different rates but I do all mine at highest setting which I think is 320kbps. You can also plug a iPod into the usb port and play music that way…that’s what I do on long journeys. You can also play DVD Audio Discs if you have them. I have a few and they sound really really good.
  6. Welcome to Lexus ownership. As well as all the above good points. See if you can find any previous service history for replacement of the water pump and new serpentine belt with fresh coolant, all being done together would make sense. Also, has the battery been changed, and have the calipers been serviced. Greasing of the slide pins in the calipers is crucial … and Lexus don’t attend to this in servicing.
  7. +1 to the above comment. I had an episode some years back caused by a wireless doorbell. What worked at the time was to pop the battery out and put it back in some feet away from the doorbell.
  8. Totally with you on that. Two weeks ago I did the callipers and brake pads on a near neighbour’s IS250. He thought I’d be doing it on his drive … no chance I said. Bring it over to me as I have all the tools and kit here at my place 👍🏻
  9. Please don't try and lever the caps out from the front ... it won't work satisfactorily and you'll likely damage the wheel facing and that will hack you off big time. You need to take the wheel off and use a fairly large flat bladed screwdriver to prise carefully at each of the four tabs at the back of the centre cap. Just lever them carefully, inwards and the centre cap will start to move forward as you work your way around at each tab. The tabs are tensioned outwards by a circular metal hoop that you will see in the photo below. The tabs and ring is what prevents easy removal of the centre cap from the front face of the wheel. Some years back I removed the centre caps and the L logo so that I could paint the caps black and then refit and bond the logo back in place. Hope that makes things a bit clearer for you.
  10. Think this is referring to Paint Protection Film ... which kinda does what it implies
  11. As said above the choice is yours. There are quite a few makes out there Varta, Yuasa, Bosch come to mind. You just need to make sure the size is correct and the poles are at the bulk head side or you will over stretch the cabling. I have a Bosch S4 type 068 that I fitted a few years back. I’ve found it to be excellent and obtainable for around £84 delivered. Tayna batteries had a good deal on them last month.
  12. True that. You could also get the Bosch S4 026 068 from Tanya Batteries at £81.47 delivered. Choices are always out there 🙂
  13. I concur whole heartedly with all of that. Just retired and no intention of letting mine go. Just back from 2 weeks in France where the car was stellar and did not put a foot wrong. Well impressed we were.
  14. Hi John It was purely preventative. I was approaching 100,000 mls so felt it was appropriate. There was no record of it being done on any of the service history that I have, and I've had the car from 30,000mls. So I'm confident it was the original pump. I figured it wise to renew the serpentine drive belt whilst I was doing the pump. The belt has to come off as part of the procedure anyway. Those parts cost me about £93 all in, I had bought them a year ago prior to retiring ( pump was a Blueprint make). Can't remember how much the pink coolant was but you'll need 2x5ltr pots as you'll need close to 9ltr for the fill up. I'm pretty competent with spanners but like to take my time and be thorough. All in it took around 4 hours. You'll need catch pots as it gets quite messy when you pull off the old pump. The old pump was in really good condition. Bearing was silent and there was no external seepage or crust anywhere. One thing I will say is you'll need a 3/8" drive socket set to be able to get in there, a 1/2" set is no good on the pump bolts as the std drive extension is just too long.
  15. I changed my water pump and serpentine drive belt about 4 weeks ago. Did the whole job on the drive. My drive slopes too, downwards. I had completed the task with nose down and went through the normal warm up procedure. At this point I found that even with temp set to high and fan on full blast the air in the cabin was not coming through hot at all. Turned the car around with nose pointing uphill and it was sorted within 10-15 mins. As Ahmed has pointed out the expansion tank should not be empty!
  16. Perfect answer ….. use a g clamp and a piece of wood across the face of the piston. Tightening down the g clamp gently should move the piston back into its body giving you the clearance you need. Keep an eye on the reservoir for any spill out.
  17. This is a puzzle. We both have a 2010 model. However, there is a difference in that wife and I both have iPhone 6S. All contacts transferred without a hitch right from first ownership of the car in 2013. That was with iPhone 4S then 5S and now 6S. All I can say is that I followed the instructions in the manual and it worked perfectly. The only bit I’m not too sure about is if I also had the phone wire connected to the USB port in the armrest at the time of transfer. Gut instinct tells me I did. Strange!!
