  1. Also, generalised debating can be a good thing, as long as you are not just trying to force your opinion onto someone else, and there is a lot of that going on in this thread.
  2. Well, a little clarification in some follow up posts could be a good idea, but yes, generally I agree with you Peter.
  3. Ok, perhaps I can venture an opinion since this seems to be the never ending thread? Personally, in my humble opinion, this thread outlived it usefulness long ago and should have been locked. I can certainly appreciate why the mods didn't do such a thing, but is it a case of quantity over quality? Freedom to post as much as you want is very good, but in this case, I think the more that is posted, the more certain people are getting wound up. So, in this case, I think it is actually in the forums best interests to let it rest before things escalate further. Now, if I can make one more observation (which is probably going to be unpopular), I do feel that Linas has been treated a little harshly here. I have been following the thread from the start and all he did was state his opinion that he didn't like the engine on the 200t. It was plain and simple, and he didn't attack any owners directly. Being a diesel owners on this forum, I know what it feels like to be bashed by people over the choice of your car. However, after he stated his opinion, certain individuals took it to task to try and dispute his opinion based on his reasoning. The crucial distinction here is that a person's reason's behind that opinion don't have to be logical, rational or fair. Now, when it comes to performance statistics, there has always been a little wiggle room on exact times, and how much one car is faster than another is highly subjective. So, to sum up, what I am trying to say is that what you have here is a difference of opinion where one party is trying to convince/disprove the others opinion. This rarely works, so the only logical course is to accept that you disagree with that person and move on. Otherwise, you get what has happened here, which is going round and round in circles while it gets more personal. I like the fact that people on here have strong opinions, but equally, when that happens a little elbow room is required. Just my opinion of course.
  4. Ok, so it appears that a lot of car do make this sound! Is it from the front/middle of the car? If so, then it sounds like a clutch problem. However, one thing to note here is that when you press the clutch you are taking load off the gearbox, so it is possibly a bearing in the input shaft of the box as well. Lastly, it may be the flywheel, but as I have already said, it would most likely to it the other way round as well - as in when you let the clutch out. So, since you have the remove the gearbox to get to the clutch, you are quite likely to find the problem without having the spend any addition labour time whether it is the clutch or not. But, at this point, what I would suggest is to leave it. As long as the car isn't juddering/shuddering and the clutch isn't slipping, it is likely to work fine until the problem gets worse. When it gets worse, it should also make it easier to pinpoint the problem as well. Also, if it turns out not to be the clutch, then it would be a good idea to change it anyway if the gearbox is out, so it would be handy if it is worn out beforehand. Turn the stereo up (or hum loudly) and pretend it isn't there.
  5. This thread really does need to die now. When are you people going to learn that Linas is like the Duracell bunny and you guys are the batteries
  6. I use Lexus Reading. In fact, I was there today to pick up my car. I have had nothing but good service from them. Always helpful and fair. For example, I wasn't sure my brakes were feeling ok after they changed the calipers a few weeks ago, so they had it back in, bled the brakes again and even put the car on the MOT tester to see what pressure each wheel was putting out (they gave me a copy of the results) and didn't charge me anything for it. Turns out everything is fine and it may be the run out on my discs (which they didn't supply or fit). Anyway, I recommend speaking to Michael on the service desk as he is the one that always helps me out.
  7. Well, perhaps you could get a video of the noise after the 20 mile run and we can see how it sounds with the clutch depressed? Sorry about not being more definitive, but it is hard to diagnose sounds on forums sometimes. Hopefully yours will be fixed quickly and cheaply.
  8. Why do I get the feeling you two aren't going to be best friends? So, from what I understand, Linas doesn't like the engine fitted to the 200t. On the other hand, John doesn't quite believe the performance claims of the IS250. If this is indeed the case, may I humbly suggest that you agree to disagree and accept the fact that nothing good will come from further conversation on these topics? Of course, we know who the real culprit is here..... @Big Rat for bringing up such a dangerous topic of conversation!
  9. Lovely looking car you got there Andrew Jemca Edgware Road used to be my local dealer, and I had nothing but good service from them, so hopefully they treated you well.
  10. True. I do miss the ability to just flick through pages when looking for something. Reminds me of my old Haynes manual days.
  11. I know of no other way.
  12. Well, that is a slightly worse sound than I was expecting. I'm sorry, I might have misunderstood, but did you say it also rattles when you are driving along without the clutch pressed? Still sounds like maybe a release bearing, or maybe the input shaft of the gearbox. It certainly doesn't sound like a typical flywheel failure, and usually a worn flywheel is associated with some sort of vibration/judder when moving off from a standstill. Either way, if you want to get to the bottom of this, I suspect the gearbox will have to come out, so all of the above can be determined when it is removed. Hopefully it is just the clutch like you say.
  13. The manual isn't the most intuitive of things. You can find the pictures if you look under Transmission - Clutch - Clutch Pedal - Components.
  14. Well, in my case at least, I didn't have to disconnect the battery. Lee is right, the main difference for me was that you can now input destinations on the nav while moving (although mine doesn't care how fast I am going).
  15. Yep, very easy. You do it like so: Although, unlike in the picture, Lexus do provide the tools required in the toolkit. If you have the toolkit, there is a little pocket along the spine on the inside in the middle. In there should be 2 metal prongs that fit into the holes in the centre console. So, once you have the panel off, press the Menu button, then go to Map DVD - Eject DVD to get the disc out. Once the new one is in, it should update the firmware and you are good to go.
  16. Yep, easy to drift and control in most cases. I remember one particular roundabout that mine seemed to like taking sideways. Nothing major; modified intake, boost controller and gauge. Ran around 16psi boost if I remember right. Was fast enough for most occasions! Always planned to do more, but didn't before it was time to sell. Oh, and apologies to Iain for hijacking your thread.
  17. Yep, I have upgraded mine from 2008 to 2015. The general consensus is that this site is good: http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ Alternatively, you can do what I did and get one off Ebay. Cost me about £75 if I remember right.
  18. Looks nice. It is shame if it did come to a bad end, but unfortunately, due to their tale happy nature, I suspect a lot of them have now disappeared. Speaking of which, my old one also seems to have vanished around 2010. Anyway, he it is back in the day: Did you mod yours at all?
  19. Nice one Forums can tend to be a bit doom and gloom since a lot of posts are about problems, so it is always nice to hear of a positive outcome.
  20. You rang? As for the first one, is it a simple case of a squeak from the pedal? If so, get under there and lube it up. Although, interestingly the 220d has the master cylinder directly attached to the pedal on the inside of the car. Have a look at this: As you can see, a couple of springs and pins that may require greasing. For the others, are there any noises when the clutch isn't engaged and you are moving? If the noise only happens when you depress the clutch, then I agree with Linas, it is most likely the release bearing that is at fault. Perhaps you could post a video of the car making the noise? Unfortunately, in the majority of clutch issues, you are going to have to get to it, which means removing the gearbox. At this point, it is almost irrelevant what the fault is because you might as well replace the complete clutch assembly since it is not worth putting worn parts back in if a specific part has failed.
  21. So, which one did you have Lee? I miss mine sometimes as well. On a few small tweaks, but it went well enough when the boost picked up.
  22. If they were Sport Maxx's, then that is a very good price. Last time I bought some, I think it was roughly £90 for the fronts and £125 for the rears. Care to share where you got them from?
  23. Second best?!?!? What could possibly be better?
  24. Interesting stuff. I had a S14 200SX back in the day, so if you are talking about the SR20DET, then it would certainly shift with a few basic mods (which I am sure you got covered ).
