  1. Alfa 147 GTA you say? Did yours have a LSD fitted, or did you enjoy understeering off the road?
  2. That sucks, sorry As a fellow fish keeper, I can sympathise. Although mine are only small goldfish, I lost one I was attached to a few months ago which kinda dulled my enthusiasm for a while.
  3. You made the right choice. The 220d is not a good fit for the type of journeys you do. Mine has 130k miles on it and has been (touch wood) reliable. It certainly doesn't feel like a car with that mileage. As for what to look out for, have a look at this excellent thread:
  4. This makes no sense? You replaced the turbo without making sure it was faulty in the first place? At the very least it would have been easy to see what condition it was in when it was removed. So the car still runs? Have you checked the fuses?
  5. Nice looking motor you got there; I am not jealous at all. I have just renewed my extended warranty, so I think you know what opinion is going to be. It is indeed £895 for 2 years. When you factor in the top level AA cover that is also comes with, I would say it is definitely worth it. Although, like Paul says, they do seem quite reliable. After all, the warranty for the ISF costs the same as the regular IS, so they don't go wrong very often! Having said that, it wouldn't take much for you to get your moneys worth. I have also found that little things that you would probably not bother with can be sorted without much fuss. For example, I have a slight clicking sound coming out of the back of my drivers seat. My car was in for some other work recently, so I thought I might as well ask them to have a look for me. I am getting a new rear seat frame fitted in a few weeks at no charge. It is only taking that long because they had to order it from Japan!

    Newbie

Welcome Nessa. I know this is probably silly, but have you primed the fuel system since the new seal was fitted? Also, you say the second garage told you it was a fuel issue, but is there a fault code? If so, it would make it much easier to diagnose the problem. The 5th Injector isn't used in normal operation, so it shouldn't be related to this issue.
  7. First off, how many miles between failures? Having said that, unless you have managed some ludicrous mileage, I can't see why it should have failed again. As has been mentioned on this forum several times before, Lexus don't seem to buy into the idea of definitive miles per failure. All we have discovered is that you are more likely to get your shocks replaced under extended warranty if your car has 50,000 miles rather than 100k! Big help! There are several procedures you would need to go through before contacting the Ombudsman. What is the current state of play? I assume you have had no joy from the dealer? If so, then the next step is to lodge a complaint with Lexus UK directly, in writing. If you get no joy from them within 8 weeks, then you can take the case to the Ombudsman.

    Mr

Well, perhaps with your superior knowledge, you could answer his questions?
  9. Well, I have also experienced both and even though the 3rd gen feels more planted, I have no issue with how the 2nd gen handles. As for the other thing, I know you were having a dig at Linas, but I thought it was unnecessarily rude, despite what might have been said before. Having said that, my personal preference is for this thread to be wiped out completely because I don't believe it really represents the true atmosphere of this forum, so I don't think I will be contributing to it any further.
  10. I certainly don't agree with this post. Firstly, my IS does not have what I would describe as crashy suspension, even with 17" wheels. Second, I dispute that newer automatically means better. Does this mean I also cannot afford a current generation IS?
  11. Thanks Andrew I am not quite what the mounting looks like, but I will get out there later to have a look.
  12. I have Pilkington on mine, so I assuming it has been replaced at least once in the past. The only issue I have is that my rear view mirror vibrates, which the Lexus dealer put down to the glass. It is minor though, so not a problem to put up with. My missus had a stone chip her screen last week. Arranged for a replacement last Saturday, and at the same time asked whether is was an original Renault screen (she has a Clio), and was told someone would get back to me about it later. Got a call the next day saying the screen they had wasn't OEM, so they had cancelled our appointment while they ordered an original one. I am surprised they agreed to fit a Renault one, but I am not complaining. This was done via insurance with Auto Glass, so hopefully it will go smoothly from here on.
  13. Like most on here, I have had a bunch of cars. Unfortunately, I don't have photos of all of them, but I have some, so in no particular order: Mercedes 190E 2.0 Auto - 220,000 miles on it when I bought it for £450, and mostly reliable. Mint 520i SE Auto. Again, very nice, if a little on the slow side. S14 200SX. Already posted about this one on here before. Fast and fun, but not very practical. Pretty standard 316i. Cheap run around for a while. BMW 518. Bought off Ebay for £120 and a great car. I am surprised by how much I miss this one. One of my favourites. Unfortunately, back then digital photography wasn't very good. Alfa 156 2.5 V6 with a supercharger fitted, bodykit, uprated suspension, brakes and wheels. What a noise it used to make. What I didn't like was the 15mpg and £2500 insurance cost. This one actually had a bit of a makeover: And to end with some porn: In addition to this, I have had: Vauxhall Carlton Saab 900 BMW E21 323i BMW E30 320i BMW E30 316 Lexus IS200
  14. I can't be certain in this case, but traditionally, sunroofs are the metal variety and moonroof's are sunroofs made of glass. Or is the other way round?
  15. Ok, I take back what I said about dual carriageways and motorways. The TechStream software can certainly activate the regen function, but it is a question of how effective it would be without a good run. I have a copy of the software, but I haven't used it for a while.
  16. Yep, you can pop into the dealer and ask them. However, they may want to investigate first, which would probably involve an hours labour. Mine also faintly rumbles in neutral, but like you say, a lot of cars seem to do it and it is harmless.
  17. (I have now done the same) Nothing I haven't stated before. Perfectly fine to admit the car has some annoyances. I have yet to drive the perfect car. Also, bad changing gearboxes and turbo lag are minor annoyances on what can only be described as one of the most amazing cars ever produced! (Welcome new members ).
  18. Not a problem Lee Are you taking it to a dealer or a indy? Fingers crossed it is something simple. I am by no means an expert, and like I said, it is still possible that it is the flywheel, but I would be surprised if it is. What I can say is that mine has had a replacement flywheel fitted and it juddered badly when it failed. A squeak when you touch the gear stick? That is strange. Perhaps another video is in order? It seems you gearbox doesn't like you. Lexus certainly didn't seem to care about how the gear change feels when they made this one. I had driven van's with better boxes! All I will say is that you get used to it and don't notice it after a while, or at least I certainly don't anymore. Despite the box - and the horrible turbo lag - I do love mine as well. By the way, just wondering if you know if the car has had its EGR valve cleaned? If not, it may be worth looking into since it is easy to do and it would probably be quite well clogged by now.
  19. Hey Paul, So it hasn't had an EGR clean in 50k miles? If so, I am surprised it has lasted this long. That manifold looks bad, and since I'm in a similar situation for mine, I have to wonder what the rest of the manifold is like. I have commented on here before how tempted I am to take it off to give it a good clean, but I am too chicken to attempt it at the moment. In order to force a regen, you would need a copy of Toyota's TechStream software. Assuming you have a laptop, something like this would do: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16pin-Mini-VCI-Toyota-Lexus-TIS-TechStream-OBD2-Diagnostic-Interface-Scanner-/112063076459?epid=714481939&hash=item1a177ad86b:g:Vw0AAOSwqfNXj555 I am curious to know where you live since being 50 miles from a dual carriageway or motorway is quite unusual. I suppose you could try driving on normal roads in 2nd for a while as an alternative.
  20. Great looking car you got there. I am very jealous.
  21. Hi Andrew, I have taken my car there for all the work it needs for the last 2 years. I have an extended warranty on mine though, so I might as well. In fact, they have just authorised a new seat back for me since my last one broke, which is a nice bonus. They are always happy to do little bits and pieces when my car is in for some work. The only annoyance that I can comment on is that they charge the full hour for any diagnostics instead of half an hour like Edgware Road used to do for me, so it costs £168. Having said that, since the warranty has covered every fault so far, I have never actually had to pay it. Also, to give you an example, I have a faint knocking noise coming from the engine bay which they investigated for me. When I went to collect it, they couldn't diagnose it since it was intermittent, so they didn't charge me because they couldn't give me a definitive answer. Add to that the fact that I have had IS300h courtesy cars for my last 5 visits (which they always let me have for two days since I can't get back to dealer the same day in time), and I am pretty happy. In fact, Michael asked me which of their cars I would like to try when I go back for my seat change in a few weeks, so I am trying an NX since I haven't tried one before.
  22. Wise words indeed @rayaans What about the one that says 'two opposing views can be an equal amount of both right and wrong at the same time'
  23. That is also a fair point @doog442. I was certainly only referring to this thread specifically since I don't read all the posts on here, so I have missed some of what has been happening. As you know (since you posted in the thread I made), I have been - and to a certain extent still am - in a similar position and I can relate. In my situation, I just try and do my best to ignore it. The alternative would probably be to not visit this place anymore, and I like it far too much to do that. Perhaps this thread will serve a purpose after all and encourage some positive changes on here?
