  1. Well, I can't comment on Lexus specifically since I have never been fortunate enough to purchase a new car from them, but generally I think it is roughly 12 weeks for it to arrive. No doubt if this is the case it will be a long 12 weeks for you.
  2. Great to hear some positive comments Personally, I have now broken 20k mostly trouble free miles, and still going strong at 130,000 miles overall. If I could change one thing I would wish it was automatic! There is a potential that I will have to sit in some start stop traffic on a daily basis soon, so being a manual could be a pain. Other than that, on the motorway - where I spend the majority of my time - it is a great car.
  3. Good point John. It is apparently possible to get it working on a 64 bit system, but after several hours of trying, I gave up and found an old laptop.
  4. Also, thanks for the update. It is interesting to see real world usage in regard to range. I have heard that parts supply can be a problem for Tesla, which has led to them keeping customers cars for a long time when they need work? I am also curious as to the service cost/interval considering the lack of mechanical components?
  5. Another interesting point also comes up with what you said John, namely that it is 140k at the start of the warranty. So, since it is unlimited mileage, and let say you do 30k a year, there is the possibility of your car being warrantied until 200k miles
  6. True. For example, I wouldn't expect a claim for shocks to be successful with that kind of mileage, but I think that a majority of bits would still be covered. As another example, mine is approaching 130,000 miles and had a couple of calipers replaced under warranty a few weeks ago without any issue.
  7. Welcome Alpesh I too was predominantly a German car man before my Lexus, but I am fully converted now and expect my next car to also wear the L badge. When are you expecting delivery?
  8. Yep, pretty much as you say, plug in, turn on and go. It is not the most intuitive bit of software, but it shouldn't be too hard to find the relevant bits.
  9. Sorry, I don't mean to be pedantic, but for information only, the extended warranty cutoff is 10 years or 140,000 miles, which I have been told will cover the hybrid battery as well. So, in this case, assuming the car was registered before today, it is correct that it wouldn't be eligible for a warranty, but it is somewhat reassuring to know that Lexus will warranty a car with 139,999 miles on it. The LS warranty is very expensive though, so I do wonder how many owners actually buy it?
  10. Welcome Mark. MM in this case stands for the Multi Media Pack that was an option on our cars. Basically, it is the sat nav system, along with the Mark Levinson stereo and other bits like Hands Free Bluetooth, etc..
  11. Sounds like a good deal, but from what I have heard, it is not happening any time soon? Perhaps someone can comment if they know more?
  12. Yep, they are used to enforce the variable speed limits of the 'smart' motorways, or so I have been told by a copper I know. I have also seen them between J15 and J21 (The M4 and M1 junctions). Sometimes they work well, for example, there are times when the traffic backs up on the M40 junction, so slowing down beforehand keeps the cars moving. However, I have also seen them displaying 60 or 50mph signs for no obvious reason at all.
  13. If you pull the key out, on the corner of the fob under where the key used to be there is a slot. Put the tip of the key in it and twist. That should pop it open.
  14. So, apart from being FWD and the styling differences, are the ES and GS models the same? What I mean is, do they share parts?
  15. Sounds like a good plan, especially if your mileage is going to drop. On a related note, I filled my car up today and worked out I had managed 39mpg on my last tank. That is mixture of A roads and motorway. The difference is that I took it a little easier this time, so nearer 70mph than 80. My car can manage 80mph in 6th quite easily, but I tend to keep it in 5th at 70ish, which helps the DPF get nice and hot since it is around 2200rpm.
  16. I am afraid, as Rebecca has pointed out, it is about right. It is a big, heavy car, so it was never going to do well around town. Having said that, I would have thought 30-35mpg should have been feasible when they designed it. Also, like all cars, if you are doing only very short journeys then the mpg will suffer because of the extra fuel that is burnt before the engine is up to temperature. Unfortunately, you can no longer control that with the choke, like you could in the good old days.
  17. Well, this is strange. I was at the dealer on Friday, and they have no record of any engine work being done to my car. It would have only been 4 years old at the time, and if it had suffered head gasket failure, it would have been covered by the extended 'goodwill' warranty Lexus provided. So now I am wondering what happened? Sourced 2nd hand engine and fitted privately? Seems unlikely. Different rocket cover? Also unlikely. The reason this is strange is that I am only the 2 owner, and the previous one had everything done at the dealer, with all the documentation kept.
  18. Well, according to a couple of my Lexus Visual Safety reports, my rear pads haven't worn down in almost 10k miles. Having said that, I did have one seized rear caliper, so I wouldn't expect much wear from that one. I currenly have 3-4mm on mine, so it is time for a change, and I would also appreciate any recommendations. Lexus want £125 to do the rear pads, but I am assuming I can get it done cheaper from a local indy. I know it is pretty straightforward to do myself, but I don't have any tools or space to do it. These are the ones I have seen: http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Lexus_IS_2.2_2008/p/car-parts/brake-friction/car-brakes/brake-pads/?101824689&1&2e6dd3bbdabce8dbbcb508fe58074a77d461b9b6&000036&awc=6409_1493504259_5e4e74b856962636f167d91869ac5fc7&utm_source=Skimlinks&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_term=cp4l+homepage&utm_content=awin+traffic&utm_campaign=Editorial+Content
  19. I agree with Lee, I would go for the matching set. Isn't it always the case that most expensive is best?
  20. How about 3 of the 4 posters above you? Seriously though, it is higher rev's, not high speed that is required. Mine does about 2200rpm in 5th at 70mph, which is ideal. As for cleaning the EGR valve, you can just add it to your annual caliper slide pin greasing service (it takes less time than greasing the pins does).
  21. In all honesty mate, I would probably leave it because I would be worried it might appear a little 'fussy', if you know what I mean? However, it certainly wouldn't look terrible, so I expect some other on here to say they think it would looks good. Perhaps strangely, I think it looks better on the silver car, so perhaps it is colour dependant as well?
  22. Hey Robb, Good to see you back. You asked for opinions, so... If I am honest, I am not a fan of the LED bumper reflectors. Having said that, I can see how others might like it. I agree with you regarding the front skirt. I think it would look better as is, and I am not sure about the roads where you are, but it wouldn't last long around here! The steering wheel looks interesting though. I am looking forward to seeing it on the car with the stitching you mentioned. I didn't even realise people did custom wheels for these cars.
  23. So your car is SE-L spec, but has halogen front lights, no headlight washers or parking sensors? If that is the case, wouldn't it be easier to find a salvage SE-L and offer to buy all the missing parts? Surely it wouldn't cost £900 for secondhand headlights? Or am I talking out of my arse? Also, do your lights still have the auto levelling function that is fitted to the xenon's?
  24. Wow, that is quite a change Don't worry, we allow strays back on here after they have learned the error in their ways. Seriously though, I hope all goes well for your with the Mercedes. I know this is a Lexus forum, but I for one, would like to hear how you get on with the CLS? You know, a couple of pictures when you pick it up perhaps, any issues/running costs associated (I am dying to know what your MPG will be ), and some general impressions what's it like to live with.
